William S. Custer, PhD, is director of the Center for Health Services Research in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. Previously he was the director of research at the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) in Washington, D. C. Before joining the EBRI, Custer was an economist at the Center for Health Policy Research at the American Medical Association, and served as assistant professor of economics at Northern Illinois University.
Custer's research has investigated a wide range of topics including the sources of health insurance coverage, employment-based health insurance, health plan cost management initiatives, and health insurance regulation. He has also conducted evaluations of health care delivery initiatives for the uninsured, measuring outcomes and patent satisfaction.
