Andrew B. Muir, MD, is an expert medical reviewer of content on WebMD FIT and Raising FIT Kids. He is director of the pediatric endocrinology and diabetes division at Emory-Children’s Center, a joint venture between Emory Healthcare and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. He is also the Bernard Marcus Professor of Pediatrics and chief of pediatric endocrinology at Emory University. Muir previously served as a professor of pediatrics at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He has cared for children and families in the Southeastern U.S. for over 20 years and been recognized as one of America’s Best Doctors annually since 2002.
Muir is a founder of Health for Life, an Emory-Children’s Center program that points children toward healthy lifestyles in order to establish and maintain their best weight. He also founded Camp Strong for Life, a family-centered residential camp for overweight children in Georgia.
Muir’s research aims to understand the causes of diabetes and obesity. His current projects focus on the long-lasting effects of prenatal and early-life factors on weight and the risk of cardiovascular disease. He has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the American Diabetes Association. He has published more than 30 research articles and authored or co-authored 10 book chapters.
Muir earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto and completed his residency in pediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He completed his fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the Children's Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, and then worked as a clinical research fellow in the department of pathology at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville.
