Arefa Cassoobhoy, MD, MPH

Arefa Cassoobhoy, MD, MPH, is a WebMD medical editor. She reviews content across the web site and ensures its accuracy, credibility, and timeliness.

Cassoobhoy is a board-certified internal medicine doctor with a special interest in women’s health and family nutrition.  Her interests began during college where she graduated summa cum laude with a BSc in medical anthropology. Her research focused on prenatal care choices made by women with Medicaid. During that time she taught sex and health education in an internship at the Northwest Boys and Girls Club of Atlanta.  She was also co-director of Volunteer Emory, the umbrella organization that coordinated volunteer activities for Emory University students.

Cassoobhoy received an MD/MPH joint degree scholarship from the Emory University Medical School and the Rollins School of Public Health. Her MPH focus was in health policy and management. Arefa went on to complete a primary care internal medicine residency at Emory University. Her grand rounds lecture reviewed osteoporosis, and she gave a workshop on the basics of health insurance.

After residency, Cassoobhoy joined the Emory Clinic, based in midtown Atlanta. She then transferred to the outpatient clinics at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Decatur, Ga. Now, she continues to see female veterans at the VA Women’s Wellness clinic. Also, she volunteers in her community at health clinics and elementary schools, teaching healthy habits and nutrition.

Session teaches patients about joint replacement surgery.
