Had a sore throat so painful I thought it was strep and went to urgent care. The rapid strep test came back negative so it was just a really painful sore throat. The Dr. gave me this RX for the pain and it helped tremendously! It's pretty thick so I'm not sure how any "gargling" would take place so I just swallow it. Numbs the pain so I can swallow and sleep better. It taste terrible but I'd say i...

I was prescribed this medication to ease my severe sore strep throat along with Amoxicillin and Benzonatate tablets. The directions clearly say "Swish and gargle 15mls (about one tablespoon) for 15 seconds every 4hrs while awake for pain. Spit out, do not swallow". At first glance, I didn't have any concern for taking this medication. I have experienced gargling a warm water salt solution before a...

I had gone to the Urgent Care (Kaiser) for Stomach Pain. The nurse gave the Lidocaine Viscous to drink. Within 2-3 minutes I was crying because as it traveled through my digestive tract it burned the sensitive ulcers in my stomach. As I cried for 10-15 minutes no one knew what to do in the office. They did not prescribe antibiotics although my blood came back positive for an infection. I was prescribed an acid reducer, which helps deadly bacteria like H. Pylori or CAG thrive. I would suggest do not take Lidocaine Viscous if you are a redhead or have recessive genes, you will freak out and shake. Read More Read Less

I thought I did something wrong, it's impossible to take a tablespoon of the medicine, which is the consistency of corn syrup. my tongue went numb before the medicine could even reach my throat. I'm kind of glad to read that others have had the same experience.

I was prescribed this medication for strep throat - this product has the consistency of maple syrup, gargling with it is impossible. The only thing this product will numb is your tongue because that's as far as it's going to get. This product can't even remotely reach the back of the throat due the thick viscosity.

Kind of wish they sold this OTC, its pretty affordable . Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this for a very very bad strep infection that wouldn't go away so I had horrible pain. If you have to gargle it, mix it with flavored liquid Benadryl. For example, my pharmacist recommended 5 ml of grape with 5 ml of the lidocaine. The grape completely masks the taste and makes it easier to gargle. However, mine would stay numb for only a while and then start to feel painful again. Not sure if I'm doing it wrong or what the problem is.

Severe strep throat for past few day. Thank you to the person who said mix with water. I was afraid this would dilute the effects, but it actually allowed me to gargle the stuff and FINALLY find some relief after 2 earlier attempts undiluted that were epic fails. It isn't perfect. Only numbs your throat for a bit. but I went from cringing every time I swallowed to just a slight annoyance. I just need a stronger dose... but I guess they don't sell that.

This was the worse prescription every. I had soar throat and was asked to gargle with it. I kept gagging and after all this hassle only my mouth, lips and cheeks got numb. My throat was still hurting. Worse medicine ever.

I have experienced gargling a warm water salt solution before and assumed this would be similar. After squeezing the thick, corn syrup consistency, goop into a tablespoon I immediately grew reluctant to gargle this slime. I sucked it up, and before I could gargle the ooze for 3 seconds, I found myself violently gagging and throwing up into my sink. I figured there had to be a better way of taking this medication, so I grabbed a cup and blended equal parts warm water and the syrup. I found the courage to try gargling this mess again hoping the dilution would make it more bearable. I was able to gargle the substance for a little longer the second time around, but inevitably, I ended up gagging and vomiting once again into my sink. After all of the hassle, only my tongue, cheeks, and lips received the numbing sensation. My sore throat was not subdued what so ever, and the numb feeling I did have went away after 5 minutes. I would not recommend this medication to anybody, unless they have no type of gag-reflex, can stand the awful taste and smell, and can accept paying for Rx that is not effective. I am not satisfied with my prescription, but hopefully the other medications given to me will get the job done. Read More Read Less

Prescribed for severe sore throat. Initially, I thought pharmacy skipped a step in the gargling instructions. It was like gargling with corn syrup. The company that is producing this drug needs to reinvent the consistency to allow proper usage for gargling and can definitely up the numbing action. Will never use or recommend this product to anyone.

No dentist on call weekends to get tooth pulled. At first only numbed gum, cheek, tongue but after continued routine dosing for several doses finally helped inner tooth pain also. Had to then continue routine dosing or would lose gained ground completely.

I have insurance - only had to pay 5 dollars for 2 bottles of 200 doses. So I am in no way rating this from a "worth it for the price" standpoint. I have such bad strep, my tonsils are basically touching each other. Ive been miserable for days, and the second I used the lidocain, a 10/10 on the pain scale went to a 1/10.. for about an hour at a time. DO NOT GARGLE JUST THE LIDOCAINE, people keep saying it is too think to gargle, if they had read the directions, it supposed to be 1 TSP of Lidocaine diluted in 1 TSP of water, it gargles very easy with the sorest of throats. My tongue gets slightly numb, but i usually shoot the substance back from a shotglass, makes it very easy. Just close the throat and catch it with your enlarged tonsils. I barely even notice the numbing of my tonsils, only the pure relief that it gives me from when I swallow. I went from not being able to sip on water, to eating mashed potato and a protein bar in minutes. This stuff rocks if you apply it correctly, which it seems like the people who rated this poorly applied it wrong. If you have insurance do yourself a HUGE favor, get some lidocain, I promise if you follow the directly, its a real life saver.Even if you dont have insurance, I cant imagine its too expensive.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this letdown of a medication for pharyngitis/tonsillitis. The directions given to me were: "Gargle with 1 teaspoon and a sip of water for 1 minute and spit out every 3 hours as needed." I managed to gargle it for 20 seconds before gagging and almost throwing up. Mine is cherry flavored, but even that didn't help. The idea that this medicine is harmful if swallowed didn't assist in gargling with it. The first difficulty was figuring out how to gargle for a full minute when I can only breathe out for 10 seconds at a time. When I ran out of breath, I tried closing off my throat to hold the liquid, and then breathing in to continue the gargle. Trying to keep this rhythm, all while trying not to swallow the medicine or get it into my airways, was extremely difficult. After I spit it out, it made my mouth more numb than my throat. It had a mild numbing effect on my swollen tonsils, but not nearly enough to justify the hassle of using it. It still hurt like the dickens to swallow regular old saliva just moments after using the medicine. Ibuprofen has been taking more "edge" off the pain than this medicine does. Honestly, drinking hot tea and doing warm salt water gargles felt a lot better. Not only is this medicine very hard to use, it's hardly effective. I'll be sticking to plenty of fluids and OTC pain relievers until this sickness goes its course. I wouldn't recommend this medicine to anyone. Ask your doctor for something else!Read More Read Less

Why would any true doctor prescribe this for sinus infection? You already can't swallow, don't want to eat and now your whole mouth is numb. Does kickback mean anything here? Stay clear of this so called med!!

Trying to gargle thick syrup with enlarged tonsils due to strep throat is torture heaped upon the ill. Additionally, it is not effective-lasts maybe 20 minutes, the "numbing" is not very strong (still could not calmly sip water), and mostly just works on your mouth -not throat. Worst idea I've been subjected to in at least a year.

Warning! Tastes like a combination of vomit, nail polish remover, and poison in general. Do not attempt to gargle or swallow, if it touches your tongue you will regret it. Immediately made me throw up just from the taste. The best way to use it is to apply it directly to the area in pain with a q tip. Seriously the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. Surprising that there are no instructions to dilute it or anything. It is effective though, but it doesn't last long.

Relieved pain from apthous ulcers breifly but left them more irritated. What really worked miraculously is swishing and then ingesting George's Aloe. Available on Amazon. Is made through a distillation process that removes the bad taste of other Aloe products and the sometimes side effect of diarrhea. After suffering for years, this has been a life saver for me and two of my children.
