My PSA level has been elevated (6-10) for over 20 years. I have had 3 negative biopsies. I am a microbiologist with a PH.D in biochemistry and researcher into mycoplasma infection. Mycoplasma has been implicated in non-specific pneumonia and to some extent in urethritis. After a round of treatment with zithromax for a finger infection (self-prescribed) I noticed a reduction in night urination ...

I have taken this drug in the past, but have never experienced what I did this last time. I had severe heart palpitations. I got so scared, I stayed in bed, and feared I was going to have a heart attack. After two days, the palpitations stopped, and I was so relieved. I just hope this drug did not cause any permanent damage to my heart.

I had bronchitis so I went to Urgent Care. I am allergic to Erythromycin but did not think twice when the doctor ordered Azithromycin. I took the first days two pills. The second day I took a dose and began feeling nervous but still didn't think much about it. On the third day I took a pill and was shaking so bad I had to go to Urgent Care again. I found out that Azithromycin is in the same family as Erythromycin and my allergy symptons are the same for both. I can't stop shaking, I feel very nervous and I want to cry. The medicine is still in my system for three days so I'm taking benedryl. They gave me a shot and some benedryl at Urgent Care and made me wait until I calmed down to leave. My blood pressure was also high. They Dr. said for me not to take any antibiotic ending in mycin. Read More Read Less

After 1-2 day of using Zithromax for a Sinus infection, I started feeling achey, I had diarrhea, I was either too hot or too cold, I felt tired, I felt dehydrated. This started yesterday afternoon(the night before the superbowl!) IT is now 7am the following morning. While I am feeling a bit better, I still feel tired, somewhat achey but not as much, and I am still running to the bathroom. This is the first time Ive experienced this with antibiotics, and this is the first and last time I will use Zithromax. It works against the infection, but causes a whole new slew of problems. Middle ear infection, unknown bacteria. This happens to me every year at this time, and I go to Urgent Care for a Z-pack. I have some adverse effects but it is difficult to tell whether they are from the otitis media itself or the azithromycin. Last year the infection returned and required eardrops, but this year the Z-pack seems to be defeating it.

Took a dose of 1000mg prescribed by Dr. for Chlamydia infection... Was really scared at what side effects would come ( read the side effect and drug reviews for zithromax and almost didn't take the medication...but took a chance and swallowed em!) and the only side affect resulted was alittle lose stool and that was it! My ears ringed alittle bit, too. Its day 2 and Im doing just fine....hope I am not speaking too soon! Knock on wood! LOL

I had a head full of infection but it was never diagnosed scientifcally. Indeed my ears, nose and throat were not looked at, nor as my heart listened to. One lung got a quick touch though 3 layers of clothes with a stethescope. Treated blind. Became more ill, fainted, constant watery bowels. Will not take this again. Will not allow bind treatment again.

This is the second time I take this. I have a sinus infection. It seems to work on the infection, I feel better after first day dose(2*250mg). I got a minor stomach upset even when taking it with food, and i get very bad diahrea with watery stool. If I dont have to take a trip, I would probably avoid the drug and just let the infection cure by itself. (I am taking the generic tablet by Teva)

I was prescribed this medication this morning, and for the most part I've just had mild nausea. However, I just noticed my arm muscles are cramping.

Extremely INTENSE stomach pain: I have never left pain like this before. I went to the Dr Thursday (today is Saturday) and was told that I have bronchitis and pharynitis (spelling?) a throat infection. My Dr prescribed “Zmax” which he said is a liquid form, you drink it once and you are done. It stays in your system for 10 days fighting the infection. When I went to the pharmacy they told me that this drug is no longer made, but she happened to have it in pill form. Since the Dr prescribed at 2g, she had 4 - 500mg tablets that she gave me and the directions were to take all at once. I took them Thursday evening around 8pm and within 45 minutes to an hour; I had extreme stomach pain, diarrhea, shakes, and cold sweats. Within a couple of hours I felt fine (stomach wise). Then this morning (Saturday) the intensity came back, with a vengeance! I called and left a message for the on call Dr (who just happened to be my Dr) and when he called me back he said that he disagrees with the pharmacist and for me to take Maalox, Mylanta or OTC Pepcid to help with the stomach pain. He said what I am experiencing is a side effect of the drug and that it “will go away with time”. This is the 2nd time this year I have had bronchitis, and if I get it again, I will be sure to tell my Dr to NOT give me Zithromax (Azithromycin) due to the intense side effects that I am feeling. However, I guess the medicine is doing its job, because the bronchitis is feeling much better today.Read More Read Less

the dr. prescribed this for my son and it knocked the pneumonia out of his system so i am very pleased with this but after 4 days of taking the med he broke out in a severe case of hives. i called the dr. and was told to stop giving him the med and give him some benedryl. i did this for several days and the hives were almost gone so i stopped the benedryl but now they are back so unless i continue daily use of the benedryl im wondering how long these hives will continue. time to call the dr. again...Read More Read Less
