I don't want anyone to go thru what I went thru, PLEASE READ: worked great for killing infection, but can cause nausea lasting WEEKS afterward due to system upset which is common for many antibiotics, but seemed more common with this one for me. I HIGHLY recommend stocking up on probiotics (such as BD Lactinex) and taking constantly during and after antibiotic treatment. It is worth the $30 in probiotics for how the $5 antibiotic will make u feel after it has killed off your bad and good bacteria in your body. i would also recommend getting a prescription of phenergen (worked great for me) or zofran (newer but didnt help me) for some nausea u may still feel even while on probiotics while getting thru side effects duration. i ended up in the ER on intraveneous fluids the first time i took azithromycin. the 2nd time on probiotics i got thru it, but still wasn't pleasing - i may try other antibiotics in the future.Read More Read Less

This cleared a sinus infection that augmentin failed to cure. Remember that different bacteria are susceptible to different antibiotics and follow-up with your Dr is important. Most doctors don't culture and test to see what antibiotic is best and will try one and then give you another if the first one doesn't work. If your problem is a sore throat or a skin infection it is easy to do a culture and sensitivity test to find the most effective antibiotic. For a sinus infection this is more difficult. In any case, follow up with your doctor so they will have a chance to change your antibiotic if the first choice doesn't do the job. Read More Read Less

My 10 month old daughter was given amoxicillin for an ear infection and sinus infection. She only got worse prompting a trip to the ER. There she was prescribed Zithromax. Upon going back to her dr. for a follow up visit we found that she was continuing to get worse. The zithromax did nothing for her ear infection. Her pediatrician informed me that Zithromx is not a good antibiotic for ear infections. She told us whenever we take her to the ER and they prescribe her any medication to bring her to them asap for them to verify the diagnosis and treatmet. Zithromax did nothing for my daughter. I'm 25 and have an upper respiratory infection. I am on the last day of this medicine and don't feel any better. Fortunately, the only side effect I've had is a mildly upset stomach when taking it w/out food. Last night I bought some sudafed and am feeling better already this morning. Looks like I should've just gotten pseudoephedrine from the start.

i have been looking on the site and seeing what people are saying about this drug and dont, I MEAN DONT let it scare you! Yes there will be some side effects i was sick with pneumonia for 3 months and was on 4 diff. drugs when my doc gave me Zithromax..OMG its the best thing i have ever been on ..only one pill a day after the first day and only for 5 days..i have had pnemonia 2 more times and have pushed for this drug every time BECAUSE it works..and for the people that are on here crying about the "runs" and some stomach upset...suck it up and get over it...if you have time 2 cry about those things im wondering if you were sick in the first place..i mean for real i had every side effect going in the first 24 hours..but i will got through all of em for 4 days if it means getting better in the long run and not being bedridden. My 14 month old son was prescribed Zithromax by an ER doctor when I took him in for an ear infection. Within 8 hours of taking the medication, he had watery stools. I gave him the medication for 4 days. He had watery or soft stools 4-6 times per day. They began turning a whitish color. He stopped eating and would only drink soy milk. He also developed a rash on his bottom, between his cheeks, and on his testicles. I also noticed that he seemed to be having stomach pain, but I attributed that to the diarrhea. On the 5th day, I took him to his pediatrician, who immediately took him off the medication, stating that he was prescribed "way to much" (3 ml per day) and that the medicine was causing him severe abdominal pain. The rash on his bottom turned out to be a yeast infection, which was begin to cause lesions around his anus. He has been off the medication for 7 days now. We are still treating the yeast infection and he still has diarrhea at least once per day. His appetite is just now beginning to return. He lost a total of 2 lbs and now weighs 24.5 lbs.Read More Read Less

Had bronchitis, was prescribed and took the first two pills. the next day, I was sicker with severe stomach cramps, dizziness and headaches. this messed me up. I felt worse after taking this product and would not recommend it. I agree with most of the comments that people got sicker rather than cured.

I was given 2 no. 500mg to be taken as a single dose, three days later and i still have a discharge and tender-like sensation in lower belly. I am not sure if this is time-released drug, or how long does it stay in your system before i really see signs of effectiveness....

I have not had any side affects at all while taking this med.However I have complete day 5 of taking it and the infection still not cleared up.Could be a bit early to evaluate as it should stay in my sys for 5 more days I believe. P.S.- Not sure of the cause of my Sinusitis.

It helped my sinus infection after 2 days, but made my stomach very upset, along with dizziness and even heart palpitations. I had to stop it on my doctor's advice after 3 pills. It cures one thing, kills the other - I will not be able to use it in the future, because of its severe side effects.

After a month of coughing and difficulty breathing, I was able to get to the doctor who prescribed this for what she called an upper respitory infection. Being diabetic, infections of any kind can lead to death so treating well was imperative. This was a new drug for me and I found it fabulous. After five days I no longer cough and have no side effects so far. Unlike oter antibacterial drugs which have given me vaginal infections and other things, this has not done so. I was given this as penicillin is allergic. However, ihave had very bad stomach cramps. It was unbearable as I was sweating perfusly and couldnt do anything but bear it out. Not a good antibiotic for me. sorry.

I had used the Zpack once before, several years ago and had no adverse side effects so my Dr. Rx'd this for bronchitis and urinary bacterica infection (unrelated). Immediately after taking 1st dose (2 pills) I got intense stomach cramping, diarrhea, vomitting and a TERRIBLE headache that lasted 48 hours. After 2nd dose, I called my Dr. and he Rx'd Septra (waiting for reaction) and told me to stop taking the Zpack. I used to give every partner I was with an STD. I took this medication and the percentage of people I infect is a lot lower. Thanks Zithromax...

Within 24 hours of taking the first dose my face swelled, redness all over, skin began to toughen, and then little bumps spread over my entire face and itching began. Doctor took one look and immediately changed my prescription to Avelox and prescribed prednisone to try to counteract the allergic reaction. I'm in my 30's, healthy, and have only one other drug allergy which is severe vomiting within 20 minutes of taking the antibiotic Doxycycline.

Works very fast and very effective for my 6 year old. He gets better so much quicker and it takes fewer doses. They should really start making melts in your mouth for children.

Medicine works great!! Small amount of meds to take for it to work. 2 tabs first day then 1 tab for 4 days after, that's it!

Experienced a severe allergic reaction that sent me to the hospital.

I just started this medication and i have been in the bathroom for both days that i have used it. I have abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea and headaches. I want to switch my medication Asap.
