I write this with the intention to share my experiences with the highly potent and very addictive medication, Fentanyl. I myself use the Duragesic Patches (by Janssen), I have found through trail and error that the patches Fentanyl (the Generic brands by other companies just don't have the same Strength or potency as this brand name I use). I have unfortunately been on the patches for what seems l...

I do use the 100mcg every 48 hours and it does work for me however only for about 28 hours, so doc gives me break through meds and so it all works good, however this patch falls off and also snaps back sometimes taking it off of the plastic, I only get the generic because of the pharmacys in my area they seem to only carry them, then there are the walgreens pharms they pick and chose weather you are going to get your patches on 28 days or 30 so if you ruin one patch and I do it at least onece a month however hard I try to keep them safe, the generic are huge, I am sick to death of wallgreens acting like god and something needs to be done about them. It is the doctors that are the important part of our health not the pharmacy. I have to get sick every couple months waiting for day 30 to come because one of them either got stuck on my bra or washed off in the shower and lost it's power or got bent when putting in place under my arm...so that is my story...Read More Read Less

I think I may have just experienced (unvoluntary) withdrawl symptoms! I have been using Fentanyl patches since 2006 when I fell and ended up having my left knee joint removed, then fused with a metal rod, and I had also caused damage to my lower spine in that accident.I am pretty good with changing the patches every 72 hours, but now and then I might miss by a day, but never like what I just experienced! Last week, for some unknown reason, I forgot to change my patches (I wear a 50mcg and 100mcg at the same time for 72 hours). By the time I realized what was wrong, I should have changed the patches 4 days ago! I went for 7 days on the same patches!! I was waking up in the middle of the night (on those rare nights when I got any sleep)3-4 times soaked in sweat from head to toe! My appetite had gotten really low, constant stomach pain but not nauseated (but I did throw up once), weak & withdrawn. After I changed the patches, all of those symptoms went immediately away!! If this is what it is like withdrawing from this medication, I am having concerns about it. I also have chronic kidney disease, stage 4, and Fentanyl is known to cause renal issues, so, I have been thinking about asking my doctor to start weaning me off of them. Now, I don't know what to do. More people than not have reported the same or worse withdrawl symptoms. Read More Read Less

i have had back problems since teenager, and after seeing many docters was referred to a pain management specialist. After reviewing my past treatments, he added Fentenyl to my pain meds, starting with 25mcg, msintsing me the 5mg Percocet for breakthru psin, then increased me to 50mcg. I found that the pain was returning after the 2nd day (48 hrs) and I WAS STILL taking more percocet then I liked to get me thru the 3rd day. ON my next visit he suggested that I try changing the patch after the 2nd day and see how that went, What a difference. I am now down to taking just 1 percocet in A>M to get out of bed. This is after many years of taking between 4-6 percocet a day and still being severe pain and wearing a TENS unit all day, (which of course I had to stop due to the Fentenyl). Of course ea case is different. The difference was finding a Dr that would work with me. In addition I would like to make a comment to the person that took the Benadryl. This not a good idea,I inadvently took one after being stung by a bee and knew I HAD made a huge mistake. This is a cns depressant and I had a hugh case of hallucination that night, do be carefull. I guess I am one of those people who has taken this drug and not freaked out, became addicted or turned into a zombie. I was on 20mg (2 a day) Oxycontin and Percocet 10/650 (4 a day for break thru pain) from a botched back surgery and a replaced hip. The Oxycontin was no longer working so my pain management Dr tried me on the patch verses the Oxy and i stayed on the Percocet. I have had good success with them. I had taken Percocet for something like 7 years before my surgery to stem the pain and after a while i had to go under the blade for back pain that ran down my leg and also my hip was so bad i could not even tie my left shoe. These drugs have helped. My daughter and her BF actually stole a bunch of my drugs at one point and I basically had to go on cold turkey by default. It was a little rough but nothing I hear like others on this site say. I had some sweats and I was really in pain but that was not so much withdrawals but more just the non medicated pain i was suffering . I still say taking medication to have a normal quality if life is better than walking with a limp and all bent over in pain where you cannot do a dang thing. Now I can play golf, ride bikes, lift weights and do otherwise healthy activities whereas without it I would just sit unable to do anything. I feel bad for those who have issues but I will continue my path and see what happens. I am only 52 but my joints are like 82. But I will take feeling like 32 and if a pill is what I need to do it. A pill or patch is what I will takeRead More Read Less

Warning! Unless you are in severe pain for life, and will be staying on this medication... I would steer far away. I was on the patch for 8 months and although it did seem to control the pain. It is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE and I am not an addictive person. My body went through terrible changes. Extreme fatigue, chills, sweating, etc. It has been two months off and I still have withdrawal symptoms. Scary stuff. Unless you desperately need this drug, I would not recommend it.

I've had 7 operations on my left shoulder after a shooting accident. The bullet shattered the humeral head and needed a humeral head replacement. The first replacement started coming loose after 4 years and they had to replace it again. Since then I've had 2 scopes and 3 MUA's (Manipulation Under Anathesia) to relieve frozen shoulders. My first pain medication was 7.5 Vicodin every 4 - 6 hrs, that worked OK for a while then needed something stronger,10mg Percocet. Again that worked for awhile and needed an adjustment to 15mg of Morphine ER every 12 hours with 5mg of Perocet every 6hrs for breakthrough pain. That also worked for awhile until I became tolerent and the pain got worse. I'm having another operation soon to release the capsule. The pain is dull/aching at rest and sharp/stabbing on movement. I'm currently on 25mcg of Fentanyl every 72 hrs and 8mg of Dilaudid which helps tremendously, except for the constipation which I take Senna. So far so good!!Read More Read Less

I have been on a 50 mch/hr dose since 2007. I use this for degenerative disc disease including 5 herniated discs. I find it easy to use and pretty effective. I'm still able to work and do most of the things I was able to do before.

I've been on the fentanyl patch since 2002 for chronic back and leg pain caused by lumber spine nerve damage. I started out on 100 mcg but have gradually reduced the strength at my request to 50 mcg. I think it's a wonder drug. It allowed me to work full time with little or no pain, as long as I don't overdo it or practice bad posture. I have had problems with the patch sticking to my body also. I change the patch every 72 hrs and place it on my upper arm, alternating the side each time. I use paper tape and tape the edges of the patch and have had little trouble with it sticking.Read More Read Less

OK,people please read the directions of this product. I have been on this drug since 2009, I was so thrilled with the ability to move and feel somewhat normal. Yes,in starting it (25mcg)I did get sick to my stomach and threw up for about 2 to 4 weeks. I was kinda thrilled that it curbed my appetite and over time I gradually lost the weight I needed to for so long and have kept it off. No more problems once my system was use to it...I started using it as recommended, changing it once every three days, now I am up to every other day. I truly am thrilled with this product. IF YOU WASH THE SITE YOU ARE GOING TO PUT THE PATCH ON, IT WILL STICK!!! I also found that NOT changing it at night anymore helped me sleep better as well. That was an interesting find. OH,also, that I was having a small issue with incontinence in the biginning. My only concerned is what will be done once I reach the highest level of dosages. I am only 49 now... Please note this product will stick to you and stay stuck if the area is clean... NEVER CLEAN AREA ( AS PER DIRECTIONS )WITH ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN SOAP AND WATER AND DRY TOTALY!!!!!... THEN LET IT AIR DRY FOR A COUPLE OF MIN WHILE GETTING DRESSED. I hope this helps. Read More Read Less

I have been on this patch for well over 20 years. I started with the 50 MCG Patches and now I wear the 100 MCG Patches. It works great for my knee, back, and hip pain. I know that this medication is and causes many problems. You have to get regular blood tests to check your liver and other body tests to make sure that this med is not messing a body part up. I recommend that you have a blood test once a year and visit your doctor once a year for this reason. Once on this high a dose you cannot just stop taking it, or you will find yourself in the Hospital. With drawl is a big problem with this drug and dose. Please understand what it is to be used for and follow your doctors advise. I get 10 patches a month and wear one patch every 3 days. You have to have a written prescription and take it to the drug store in person to get it filled. You cannot call this med in. I hope this will help anyone. If you follow the doctors advise while taking this med you will be fine.Read More Read Less

The only problem I have found with the Patch is keeping them on. I have found that if you will clean the area you are going to put the patch on with Nail Polish Remover and then let it dry very well, the patch will not come off. Matter of fact you will think you are going to pull off your skin but that is not the case. This works well if you put them on your arms where there is no hair. I have been wearing these patches since 1999 and have never had a problem since I started using the nail polish remover to clean the skin before placing the new patch on. Just remember not to rub your skin off when cleaning your area whre you want to put your patch. Good luck to all who reads this. Please remember to use this technique only with the clear patch. The Myland patches do not work well with this type of putting a patch on.Read More Read Less

Absolutely THE drug from the deepest depths of HELL. Generic{Mylan and others other than J&J} do nothing. Brand name is as addictive as any drug can be. Use it twice and you ARE addicted. DO NOT EVER ATTEMPT TO simply quit taking it! IF you live, you will do ANYTHING to get it again! Absolutely hate the fact that it has turned me into a total ADDICT{coupled with 6 10 mg Lortabs a day}. Only moderate pain control with{L2,L3,L4} stenosis, and have been advised by numerous surgeons that surgery would NOT EVER be effective, so now, I am a lifelong addict. That is if you can call it a life, I don't. Would much rather die a humane death than continue this hell. Can yoe tell that I have attempted to stop taking it? HUGE,HUGE, HUGE mistake. Cardiologist has informed me that if I try again, then I WILL DIE! Pain specialists should NEVER prescribe this except in terminal patients. It WILL make you wish to be terminal.Read More Read Less

I've been dealing with chronic pain for over 8 years. I've taken many different narcotic pain medications and at one point began abusing Oxycontin. I was depressed because, at 26, I couldn't imagine having to deal with severe pain for the rest of my life. I went through rehab and stopped taking anything for pain, but I was in agony. I decided to start seeing a pain management Dr again and be honest about my past so that he could help me prevent the abuse from happening again. I know there are people who will not agree with my decision to begin taking narcotics again, but dependence and abuse are a huge risk when you have severe pain and take powerful medications that make you feel better. I recently started using the patches because my dose of Oxycontin wasn't helping anymore and when my Dr increased it, it made me feel too drugged. I'm using the 25mcg patches and my script was written so that I can change it every 2-3 days. I was surprised to hear that some people only get every 3 days. I'm lucky if I can get the thing to stay on for three days. The worst side effects I've been having is a rection to the adhesive (I get little sores around the edge of the patch), trouble staying asleep, sleepwalking, and mild dizziness the first few hours after I change the patch. I've found that if I wait 2-3 hours between removing the old patch and putting on the new one, I don't get as dizzy. (I don't know if I'm supposed to do that so I don't recommend anyone else trying it unless they talk to their Dr first.) As far as controlling my pain, I've been very happy with this medication. I have degenerative disc disease, carpal tunnel, and fibromyalgia, so I realize nothing is going to make me pain free all of the time. I've had the best and most consistent pain relief from the patch. To the patient considering "weaning" off. There's no shame in checking yourself into a facility the specializes in detoxing people with chronic pain. There's one at Johns Hopkins. Good luck!Read More Read Less

I too had difficulty keeping the Fentanyl pathch on. I finally read the directions that came with the patch. It said to buy a cover patch called Tegaderm-Film.My pharmasist was able to tell me where to buy these patches. They work really well. One piece of information I saw in the reviews was a person using alcohol to wash the space where the patch would go.The information sheet that came with the patches stated not to do this-also not to use band aides or tape -only use the tegaderm film. I have had wonderful relief. I've been able to cut my oxycodone from 30 mg to 15mg daily. I've only been on this patch dosage for a week. The pain specalist had started me on 10mcg-no relief. Now the higher dosage 50mcg has given me great relief with no side effects.Read More Read Less

I had a triple laminectomy 21 years ago and was told that my condition would be degenerative and it has poved to be just that. I have wwwworsening osteoarthtritis in all my joints and paticuarly in the lumbar region of my back (the site of the laminectomy) I have been using Durogesic 25 patches for 9 months and have found that they now run out of steam after 36-48 hours and I now have the3 co-operation of my GP to change them every 2 days(25 micro grams). I did find that the site of the patch was itchy, so I now use mefix adhesive webbing 10x10cm over the patch, which allows me to relieve the itch without the danger of the patch coming off. It also permits me to shower without the risk if the patch coming off. Mefix is made by Molnlycke Healthcare and I really do recommend anyone with itch or patches which fall off to try it Read More Read Less
