I write this with the intention to share my experiences with the highly potent and very addictive medication, Fentanyl. I myself use the Duragesic Patches (by Janssen), I have found through trail and error that the patches Fentanyl (the Generic brands by other companies just don't have the same Strength or potency as this brand name I use). I have unfortunately been on the patches for what seems l...

I have been on the patch for about 3 years and the side effects are horrible am trying to get off of them I have lost so much weight and cannot sleep the first night that i change the patch. I have had rashes and mood changes and many other side effects including near overdoses. Just be careful and pay close attentinon to any side effects. I hope that this helps someone else whom suffers

I have only been on this patch for a month. I have a rare bone disease that's spreding. The Dr has tryed everything, and I feel that he's just pushing this on me. It helps, but I still need Darvocet or Percecet for the breakthrough pain. I can't seem to figure out how to keep it on. I've tryed all the tapes. The side affects aren't all the best, but it's better than cronic pain. I still am unable to work.

started using patches 2 yrs ago due to brain surgery, had chiari malformation 1 and a syrinx. Also have problems with sciatic nerve and scholisis. went from 50 to 100mcg change every 2 days.Due to the fact on 2nd night to 3rd day could not function had to stay in bed. Have had problems w generic skin irration/falling off, felt like meds weren't as strong, meds didn't last long-had to use hydomorphone for break through pain. Name brand med was on back order at pharamacy. I don't need to use hydromorphone nearly as often since changing to every 2 days, only when breakthrough pain becomes unbearable. I have found that medical tape leaves less irration than the covers that are recommended by duragesic maker. I also was given patient leaflet from pharmacy that states u should only use tegaderm or one other covering, cannot afford these due to lack of ins. coverage, they will only cover them if they are for an open wound- get that one! I was wondering if others have had an issue with patches bunching up, happen to me all the time on last day. When the meds start running low in the patch looks like the patch almost shrinks up this is when bunching up occurs. Good luck to all who are using and i wish you a painfree day.Read More Read Less

My final diagnoses is Failed Laminectomy Syndrome which includes numerous Disc Bulges/herniations and other low back problems that cause pain from my waist all the way to toes. I have used the patch for several years now and had to go to the 75mcg this spring. It works! However, the side effects cause me to need other meds (no sleep/anxiety). Now that I increased my dosage, I may not sleep for the entire time I am wearing the patch. And then when it runs out (3-5 days)I can't do anything but sleep and I am depressed. My big concern is that I have noticed swelling and numbness in my face with the swelling in my eyelid area. I've seen an eye doc but that was no help. Has anyone experienced this?Read More Read Less

i have been taking this drug for about 6 months for bad arthritis in my back due to crohn disease.i had try other pain killers like oxyxontin, dilaudid but duragesic is the one that keeps the pain away and dont give me any sides effects. the relief is constent and last for up to 4 days. the only problem is that the patch fall off.. the only location it stick well to is the upper arm. also a good point; for poeple with crohn disease it prevent me from having diahrea. for poeple with chronic pain i think its the best drug.Read More Read Less

Was on this drug for 1.5 yrs. Patches gave me a severe rash on my body with exception to my upper thighs. I had to invest in adhesive covers to keep the patch from falling off. Contacted the manufacturer regarding this and they would not furnish me the covers for free since I had to place the patch on my leg which they concurred was an unacceptable location. Duragesic did help control my pain for awhile and was better than taking oral meds all the time. However I had a severe reaction during an MRI which made my heartbeat irregular and caused numbness and chest pain. Read More Read Less

It is very efective and does not create dependense , some times it will last a 4th day , for the companies selling the generic small patch I would recomend packing the patch so it wount dry up, ive been using it for more than 4 years and have no complaints./CCG

I've taken this Rx 3 years after back surgery. It does fall off easily so I cover with a waterproof bandaid. I still have some pain but realize I could not function or survive without it. I feel better and have fewer side effects than from my prior oral narcotics, although there was a period of adjustment. My doctor is concerned about addiction issues and will not increase my current dosage.

I have been on the patch for 2 years. It has made it possible for me to continue to work full time without going on disability or medically retiring to due multiple disc surgeries & rapid degeneration of my lumbar & cervical spines. It definitely gave me back my mobility. I had been on heavy medications or doing without pain killers due to the long term effects those drugs have on liver & kidneys. Side effect for me is decreased appetite & tiredness.

I have 3 severly damaged disks in my back that i am unable to have surgicly repaired due to isurance, and this patch has made it so that I can accully get 5 straight hours of sleep at night. During the day I am able to do things I havent been able to in months. So if there is some one that is having chronic pain and unable to due anything to fix the problem and can only treat the pain I recomend this patch.

Very hard to peel patch off of backing. I have severe spinal stenosis, with 3 discs fused and two other spine surgeries. It pretty much helps the pain but I still have to supplement with 2 percecets a day when pain returns.Usually works most of day. Falls off alot, need to take care of this. I tape it with medical tape now
