I have had pain in bladder for years. I went to one OBYGEN who did a bladder tack thinking this was my problem...but I continued to have pain I have had test for bladder cancer. That was negative. All of the doctors I went to said I had protein in my urine and treated it with antibiotics...finally I found a doctor who knew what test to do and this medicine is wonderful. I only take two pills a...
was originally on elmiron orally, then had it put in the instills after the heparin didn't work. That is the worst thing I've been thru. the oral side effects are standard, the instill was horrific. cramping, burning and unbelievable pain and pressure. The dr stopped the instills and sending me to regional specialist. recommend trying it orally first

No remarkable results after 3 months use, however, pelvic pain physical therapy based on the Stanford University Medical School Protocol, has stopped bladder urgency and discomfort almost completely. SALT is the trigger for my pain. I have lost at least 25% of my hair on Elmiron and have decided to stop taking it. The PT is much more effective. Few therapists specialize in this method, there are only 2 in my state. Ask your OB/GYN to find one for you.

I've used this for 1 ½ yrs. I was miss diagnosed for about two years (worst two years), because they said I was to young to have IC. I finally switched my urologist and he did a cystoscopy and diagnosed me with IC I started with three pills a day but felt nauseous and faint so I went down to one. This pill is a life saver, I tried to go off and within 3 days my IC symptoms were coming back.

the only thing that I disliked about this drug is that it takes 6-8 months to get started working. after that I have not had to much trouble with bladder pain itself but still was burning when peeing. so also got on urelle it works fairly well on the no burning and I have not had any bladder spasms since been on it.

I had IC for 18 years before I was officially diagnosed. It would be dormant for years then come back for 6 or so months. After two urologists never mentioning IC I diagnosed myself by extensive research and found a third urologist to confirm it. At that point I had been in a flare up for a year and was miserable. I started the elmiron and am very strict with my diet. No coffee, artificial sweeteners, soy products, alcohol, etc. I don't understand why some reviewers are saying they can't change their diet. Or find it difficult to take it on an empty stomach. After 18 months on the elmiron, I have been introducing some things into my very bland diet. But I don't have that constant pain anymore. I occasionally have days where I have to urinate a lot, but they are not often. Last week I had a glass of champagne and had a long night, being in the bathroom ten times. So, I won't do that again. All in all, I hope it is the elmiron keeping the pain away. I take it three times a day, morning, afternoon and before bed. Always on an empty stomach and then don't eat for at least an hour. I set timers constantly not to forget. Read More Read Less

I had IC for months that went undiagnosed. PA at OBGYN caught on finally and did bladder cocktails once a week for 6 weeks and I went on Elmiron for 6 months. I found my trigger was diet soda. I don't touch that stuff anymore and have not needed Elmiron for 6 years now. My life is totally "normal" now.

No improvement with pain, my doctor wants me to be patient. Have been told it takes months for improvement. That is easier said than done when I'm the one in pain. No relief with the bladder infusion the doctor said was my emergency backup.

Was in and out of the emergency room at least once a month thought I had a UTI my doctor did a test on my bladder out patient and found out I had IC since being on this medicine for 2 and 1/2 yrs. I have had 2 flare ups. this medicine has helped me in ways that I can't explain, no more visits to the er or the doctor on a regular basis.. it works wonders... but you also have to watch what you eat and drink to help it work... give up soda because it was my #1 problem and cranberry juice ....

This medication along with Hydroxyzine has had some relief from bladder issues. BUT... I have found it has helped my RA. I have suffered 7 years of RA and Fibro pain. Within 2 weeks of Elmiron and Hydroxyzine I have been 4 months pain free from joint pain.

I suffered for probably 10 years before I was finally diagnosed with IC. I have been taking Elmiron for 15 years. It is life changing. When my insurance didn't cover Elmiron I paid for it and it was my priority, before any other bill. I am one of the lucky ones, with Elmiron I have no symtoms. Before I couldn't wear tight pants, a lot of foods would cause a flare up, within 24 hours after sex I would experience symtoms of a bladder infection. Life was miserable and I was miserable to be with. I have suffered from conjunctivitis and dry eyes but I will not stop taking ElmironRead More Read Less

It has taken about 8 months to feel as if the Elmiron is working. I have changed my diet, the main culprit for me was wine. Artificial sweeteners also played a key role, therefore, I no longer drink diet sodas, and I use natural Stevia in my coffee (won't give that up, although it's an irritant). Changed a lot of what I ate and drank. I also learned how to do the bladder installments at home, not a big deal. Takes some practice, but I can now place the catheter without looking. Haven't done one since early November (only did that cause it had been so long since last installment). Will stay on Elmiron for 3 more months. After that, watch my diet and hope it doesn't come back.Read More Read Less

I dont know which is worse the continued IC pain and urgency to urinate or how disappointed i am with the wasted money on this expensive drug. Lots of upset stomach, stomach pain, bruising, and bleeding.
