I have a hiatal hernia which lead to esophagitis. I seemed to have a remission for about a year when I started drinking aloe vera juice (look in this, it helps acid reflux) but I have a bit of a return of my acid symptoms so I'm back on this medicine which has worked pretty well in the past. Chest bloating, mild chest pain. A little tip to save money, get the cheaper pill form and a pill crushe...

I have bile reflux (different from acid reflux)and small hiatus hernia after having gallbladder removed. It causes gastritis. Have been on this med along with prilosec for 2 1/2 weeks and it has helped. The pills are huge. I take a sip of water and let them dissolve a little before swallowing - then drink some water. Dr. said to take for 6 wks. I am a little concerned about the aluminum content and poor absorption of nutrients because it coats your stomach and intestines. But, it is helping heal the inflammation. Will stick it out. No side effects other than a little bloating/constipation. Drink lots of water.Read More Read Less

Have a stomach ulcer with point pain, bloating and general discomfort. This drug works 100% and I can eat and drink as I normally have without any issues. Been taking it for ~3 weeks without any side effects either. Started with liquid, using pills now. Definitely have to let the pills dissolve in my mouth or I will choke on them. The timing, 1 hour before a meal, and not being able to snack in between is a real pain though as I exercise frequently and eat more than 3 times a day.

Two years after gallbladder removal, I was having the same symptoms again. My doctor thought it might be bile reflux with the pancreatic bile backing up into my stomach and causing gastritis, pain, and vomiting. Before I used to have terrible "attacks", usually at night. Since starting Carafate I have not had any attacks! After 2 weeks on it, my symptoms totally resolved. That was 4 months ago. I do not take it all the time. I had symptoms again twice in the past 4 months, and started the Carafate for a week each time, and the symptoms went away. Thank God for Carafate, it really keeps my bile reflux under control!Read More Read Less

Started taking this drug in liquid form about 2 weeks ago . I have a hiatal hernia (large) was having chest pain and much acid. It has really helped with the pain. Only drawback is constipation which I have to take stool softners for. The taste is bad but it has helped my pain. I am going back to doctor in a week for an EGD to be done then I don't know if he will keep me on the meds or not.

Carafate has been very effective for my GERD and acid relief. I chew the tablet and let it dissolve before swallowing with water. Not bad tasting, kind of has a chalky taste. My doctor suggested this might be more effective and that it will start to coat the esophagus/stomach more quickly. I also take Dexilant, a proton pump inhibitor, for a small hiatial hernia and acid relief. Both these drugs have helped immensely.

I've been experiencing abdominal/intestinal issues for 3 months, which started after I got some sort of stomach virus. The virus lasted 2 weeks, then I started having severe stomach cramping and nausea. My doctor did a blood test and found I was positive for h. pylori, which they think I picked up from my work in a disabled living facility. I was on 2 strong antibiotics for 2 weeks, but the pain and nausea never went away. After the GI doctor prescribed this, along with hyoscyamine, the pain and nausea are finally subsiding. Wish I had started this medication sooner, along with the hyoscyamine. I also take prilosec twice a day now. So far, so good. It is a bit difficult to plan around meals, as others have stated.Read More Read Less

I take a swig out of the bottle as needed and it calms my stomach and prevents me from throwing up or gagging. Tastes good and works fast! Highly recommend for ALL stomach related issues/pains/conditions.

I have severe arthritis and became unable to take Aleve or Naprosyn due to severe heartburn. Prilosec alone did nor have enough of an effect though it had worked well for a few years. Almost immediately the Carafate gave me significan relief - enough so that I can now calm the pain of my arthritis with NSAID's again

I have post polio syndrome and atrophy of my throat, diaphram and esophagus muscles. My esophagus was dilated 20mm and I was given Carafate after receiving a endoscope. It has been like night and day. I have had no acid reflux and I can eat once again. I have experienced no side effects from this medication. I am to take Carafate for eight weeks, three times a day.
