I was a study participant, this is my second review, forgot to tell you I take the pill at 5:00 in the afternoon after work on empty stomach but I drink a gatorade with it, sugars in the Gatorade act as buffer, then I get my workout at 24 hour fitness for 2 hours, then I am starving and I eat dinner. This way no diziness or nausea. I don't like taking pill at bedtime because then the pill does no...

I've been taking Atripla for almost 3 months. The first night I had a vivid dream, the first couple weeks I was tired some muscle weakness. Now I have no side effects at all! I went from 111 thousand VL and 350 T-cell count to 500 VL and 540 T-cell count in less than three months! The trick is learning to balance food intake/hours of sleep, theses two things play a big part in tolerance for me.

I have been using atripla for 2 years and I have a breast enlargement and forget things easily, but otherwise is a very good medication that cleared my load to undetectable in two years and my cd4 from 0 to 268 within this 2 years.

When I started taking Apripla I had a high viral load and and my CD4 count was around 398. It's now been two years since I have had a viral load and my CD4 is 591. The CD4 goes up a little every lab. The first 2 weeks were hard, I got a bad rash (happens in about 10% of patients according to my physician... itchy red spots covering the trunk, some on the legs and arms)Also some pretty intense nausea. That totally cleared-up and no more nausea after about 10 days. Since then, I have been very healthy. This drug has made HIV a very small and manageable part of my life. I know it may not be the right therapy for everyone living with HIV, but for me it's a miracle drug. Read More Read Less

I took this medication for only a week and experienced neurological side effects. I had a minor twitch when speaking, not always noticed by others by very bothersome to me. I also had difficulty saying things I wanted to say. It made sense to me but not to anyone else. It took about 3 weeks for these side effects to wear off after I stopped taking it. My doctors told me this was not common and in fact they had never heard of these side effects.

I was diagnosed in March 2012 and began Atripla at that time. My CD4 was 620 and my VL was >950,000. In May 2013 my CD4 was 1100 and my VL was undetectable (I had been undetectable since December 2012). I did develop a severe rash which lasted almost a month when I first started taking it, and the rash has reoccurred several times since but much less in both area and severity. Taking it with or without food does not affect me either way. I take it at 10pm every night and usually sleep quite well, although I do have strange dreams sometimes, but nothing like the bizarre dreams that have been reported in the literature.Read More Read Less

I have been on Atripla for 4 years ... initially, my CD4 count immediately rose and I crawled under the broomstick to undetectable ... and stayed there, with pretty consistent numbers, for three years. Lately, my VL has been climbing steadily. And I'm noticing that I no longer have the "slight drunkeness" that I've always felt after taking the med in the evening.

I like this drug because it's easy to use and didn't give me too many side effects after the first month of use. Initially I had trouble sleeping and would have very vivid dreams when I got to sleep. I had trouble concentrating which was bad because I am a student and staying up late to do assignments became a chore. But after the first three months, I was fine. I never had any gastrointestinal issues even though I don't always take it on a completely empty stomach.

12/2009 my Cd4 was 6 and my VL was EXTREMELY high. Within 3 months of treatment my VL was undetectable and after 6 months my Cd4 was 252. After 3 1/2 years of treatment VL still undetectable and Cd4 >600. My side effects include insomnia, depression, anxiety, mood swings, irritability and moderate/ severe bone density loss. Experienced a vivid dream once after the 1st dose. Until 5 months ago I managed all symptoms except bone loss with medicinal marijuana. It only helps with the insomnia at this point. Started on a Calcium w/ Vitamin D supplement for the bone loss. Plan to talk to my ID physician about changing my regiment due to the bone density loss and the depression. I'm too young to be concerned with osteoporosis and I have a long life ahead of me to live it in bed. Read More Read Less

Have developed neuropathy in feet. Burns when in bed from sheets touching. Take Tegretol to help. Don't know if Atripla cause it or the HIV. Also was on Crixivan and Conbivir for a long time. The Doctors don't have an answer. A note for question # 4 below, I am both an HIV patient and a caregive for my partner who is a cardiac patient.Perhaps someone has a better answer to the neuropathy. Also have tried pain killers along with low dose xanax. Didn't work. Also tried neurotin and similar drugs all to no avail. The Tegretol has been the mos helpful.Read More Read Less
