Don't let the negative reviews scare you! The majority of people using Implanon are happy so they don't bother to leave reviews online! I didn't get Implanon for years because of the negative reviews and now I wish I had talked to my doctor more and read fewer reviews. I have had my implant for 6 months now. I have no periods and no spotting and it has lifted a weight off my mind that was always t...

I have not had a great experience what so ever with this type of BC. I got put in in March of 2010. the insertion was very easy and not painful. for the first year the only side effects was bleeding none stop and I got a lot of facial hair which can really lower your self-esteem and I felt more hungry. the second year still having a lot of heavy bleeding and as a result I am now anemic. now I am s...

Loved how it protected me BUT it made me get acne (which I haven't had since middle school) all over and made my vagina dry, swollen and itchy more than once so I've have it for about 4 months and I'm getting it taken out ASAP Back to the pill I guess :/

I am on my seventh year, 3rd round of Implanon. I absolutely love it. I have not had any side effects and I have not had any bleeding in seven years! I am 46 years old. This has been the best birth control I have ever used in my life and believe me, I've tried a lot of different ones.

I have had the implanon implant for a little over 2 years now and will need to be removed in October of this year(2016). I love it, I have had no problems or changes since I got it, I have lite spotting for 2-3 days once every couple of months other then that no period. It has been so nice to not have to remember to take something or worry about it falling out.

I had Implanon for 5 months, then had it taken off. Good: -practicaly certain of not getting pregnant; -not having to remember it; -bigger breasts. Bad: Menstruated or had spotting for almost 3 of the 5 months, and menstruated in more quantity. Had 3 months of premenstrual sindrome (mood swings, irritability. Very bad for my mental health and relationship.) Worsened my rhinitis alergica, also very disruptive. My nose was inflamated like in rhinitis gravidica, despite maximum rhinitis medication. Not so easy to stop: as it requires minor intervention, I kept waiting that sideffects would pass. I advise trying oral progesterones a few months first. Not advisable for low stature and weight (55kg),bad premenstrual simdrome, depressive history or rhinitis.Read More Read Less

I had a terrible experience with this implant. I had fits of anger and severe depression on and off from months 3-5. I got it removed after 5 months. I was terribly depressed and lost nearly 30 pounds in 2.5 months. I had terrible fits of violent anger uncontrollably. It caused problems in relationships with everyone. It took about 3 months off of it to feel completely back to normal, and I still occasionally have fits of anger. I had a friend that recommended this to me who had fits of anger all the time and was really just an angry person a lot of the time. I always figured it was just her personality, now I know it's the hormones from her implant! I would not recommend this to anyone.,Read More Read Less

I've been on it for a year and a half and after I hit the year mark I started getting my pieriod every other week and it was very heavy and it was the worst menstrual cramps I've ever had. Other that that I'm loving it. And I love how I don't have to worry about anything for 3 years :)

I've had the implant for 10 months now, and before was using depo provera. The only side effect I've noticed is a light, but constant menstrual flow. I've started using the menstrual cup though, so it's not a big issue. I'm medicated for anxiety and depression, so I haven't had the issues with mood that others have had. (I did react badly to birth controls with estrogen though)

I had this for 3 months. I did not like it. The first 6 weeks was fine but then I started bleeding 5 days a week all month long. I woke up sick every morning. I was extremely moody and depressed.

As far as effectiveness goes, I have not gotten pregnant which may be attributed to the fact that I don’t get to have sex all that often. My fiancé and I are basically abstinent because I have a period for a month at a time all the time. So that's why I gave 4 stars. The ease of use for the implant is fine, no issues for difficulties directly related to the implant itself. Although, healing after the insertion was pretty rough and it seriously limited my ability to do daily activities. I only gave it 3 stars though because while I have had the implant, I have had periods that last 3-4 weeks with pretty heavy flow and maybe a week in between with no flow. It is quite the inconvenience, always having to carry around protection, not to mention being on your cycle for SO LONG. I get worried about constantly wearing a tampon + panty liner like 24/7 which I do end up changing every few hours to reduce the risk of infection. My overall satisfaction is low because of all the reasons stated above plus the fact that I have gained 20+ pounds. I have not had acne problems but the long flow with the weight gain and the inability to have sex is why I rate it so low. The whole point of it is to protect me from getting pregnant while having sex, but if I cannot have sex because I am always on my period then what's the point. I have had it now for 9 months hoping each month that it will finally give me the results I wanted out of it to begin with. I don't see a change happening and as soon as I can get in to my doctor, I am going to have it removed. Read More Read Less

I AM GIVING THIS DRUG FULL STARS, BECAUSE THERE ARE OBVIOUS BASHERS WITH OTHER MOTIVES. I AM AT THE END OF MY TERM WITH THIS ONE. IT'S MY FIRST TIME TRYING IT, AND HONESTLY THE LONG CONSECUTIVE MONTHS WITHOUT A PERIOD WAS THE BEST. ONCE, I HAD ALMOST A YEAR WITH ONLY ONE OR TWO. I AM ALSO VERY HEALTH, WITH NO WEIGHT ISSUES. WE ALL HAVE TO CONTROL OUR BODIES, AND I THOUGHT THE WARNED SIDE AFFECTS(BY THE NURSE) WERE PRETTY ACCURATE. I HAVE HAD NO SERIOUS PROBLEMS ASIDE FROM THE ANNOYANCE, OF A REALLY LONG PERIODS (6 WEEKS) EVERY 6-8 MONTHS, OR SO. IT'S TIME TO TAKE IT OUT, SO I'M READY, AS I'M NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES, BUT OVERALL I AM VERY,VERY HAPPY. I WONDER WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T, OR CAN'T TAKE IT OUT WITH IN THE ALLOTTED TIME?Read More Read Less

Ive had Implanon for a little over a year now and I love it. I dont have my period at all, which is my only worry for blood clots but since its not implanted in my woman parts im not too worried. I don't have much acne but I also do eat a really healthy diet (Vegan). But I find that if I do give in and eat less healthy items, mostly fried foods, I start to break out then. I haven't gained weight on this form of Birth Control but when I tried the Depo shot I did gain weight. I would recommend this form of Birth Control. But women have to understand that everyone is different and its going to affect your body differently. Im just lucky to have had a good experience with it. I haven't had any of the symptoms that they warn you about, but you have to experience things for yourself to know if it is good for you. Also I went to planned parenthood to get this implanted and with my insurance it was 100% free. Read More Read Less

I love the easy use, and is clearly effective. But as a headache sufferer, it has been rough. The side effects I struggle with are nausea, headaches, and spotty bleeding problems. I'm a year and a half in to the 3 years and I'm ready to remove it. Sick of the nausea and headaches.

I am 21 and had Implanon implanted in November of 2014 and I have been miserable ever since. I have bled for six weeks at a time with about a week break in between, gained 50 ponds, gotten acne worse than when I was a teen, had horrible cravings and mood swings, terrible heartburn, extreme fatigue, and absolutely no sex-drive. This is the worst experience I have ever had with birth control and I am having this thing ripped out and getting back on the pill asap. I would not recommend this to anyone. Read More Read Less

My doctor was very positive about this birth control so I decided to give it a try. I wish I hadn't. I have gained 30 pound despite no change in diet or excercise, have uncontrollable acne, periods 3+weeks out of the month, mood swings, and almost daily headaches. I am getting it taken out this week. While I know birth control effects everyone differently, if you are overly sensitive to birth control, I do not recommend it.

I am very active, working out 2 times a day as well as eating healthy. However, I couldn't lose the rest of the baby weight after getting it. I've had 1 week on, 1 week off periods since I got this in April. I also had horrendous mood changes/swings. I was easily irritated but now I get furious. And then it'll crash into being upset with myself and go into a depression. I personally would not recommend this.

Such a wonderful concept. Get a little implant in your arm and never worry about periods or getting pregnant for two years. I had the implant when I was 17 and I never had a period on this BC. It was wonderful. No bleeding, spotting, cramping, or any sort of weight gain. HOWEVER, my acne was so horrendous on this BC. Any of my friends who were also on this, had similar experiences with it. I would develop some of the worst acne I've ever seen, and the only way to reverse those effects was to ultimately change my birth control, (which the pill does wonders for). Overall I never got pregnant and was pretty happy for the most part, but after suffering severe acne for two years I was willing to have periods again to not be afraid of my face. Hope this helps!Read More Read Less

Best BC decision I've ever made. It is expensive, my insurance covered 85% of it fortunately, but WAY cheaper when calculated out monthly (like if you were buying monthly BC). Only side effect has been some irregular periods, a little breakthrough bleeding, but totally manageable. I don't have to remember to take something every day, it's VERY effective. I would absolutely recommend this.
