I was Rx this med after a spinal fusion, I also have SLE, High BP, Raynaud's Syndrome, PTSD, and s shoulder reconstruction. This is a miracle pain killer for me but the side affects "watch out!" I can not drive on this med, I do not know how anyone can I take 4mg x 3/day. I sleep should I say it knocks me out! I also take ativan along with several other meds I have my own pharmacy as I refer to it. Side effects are wicked but I do not know if they come from this drug alone, after reading some of these reviews I have the same sweats, my stomach is always killing me, my high blood pressure drops, I have problems breathing, & at times I wake up during the night (no clue I do) and my husband tells me stories of things I do that I have no recollection of, scary! I can live with the side effects because the pain is too much to deal with on a daily basis, thank God for hubby! I have taken so many other drugs for my spinal injury and I feel that this works the best and perhaps has the least consequences but that is just my opinion. Just thought I would let some of you know that I have been on it for years and I am still ticking without any additional medical problems. That is a lot to be thankful for considering the disease that I have and have had for 30 yrs, now. My best wishes for all of you!Read More Read Less

Cons (side effects): dizziness (and have bilateral Meniere's, so very much not appreciated), dry mouth, sleepiness unless I only take 1mg (which doesn't really do anything during a flare), blurred vision - this kicks in after 6 or 7 days taking between 2 and 4mg 3x day when sciatica from L4-5 herniated discs/piriformis syndrome uber flares and I'm in screaming pain, can't walk - right leg is DONE (no reflex R knee, drop foot when it goes full tilt), back spasm, butt cramps/spasms. Once I start getting some relief & can get more stretches/exercises/a bit of walking without the walker, I will cut back on doses & vision is OK. Until then, will take full needed dose and wait a couple hours for it to kick in and blurry eyes to lessen; being already disabled I'm home and do not drive anyway. This isn't a cure, it's a help, with the back, leg/foot, fibromyalgia, whatever needs relaxing. Unless you're having big reactions, try taking it, make sure you're doing anything else your doc, PT person tell you - stretch gently, exercise, try to get out for even a short slow walk if you can. Don't lay in bed unless it's prescribed - for back disc/sciatica it makes things worse to stay in bed (and I know how bad it hurts all too well). I can't/won't get epidural shots - allergic to steroids, scared of needles (in general, and specially) near my spine, watched friends & neighbors go through them and get no relief or get worse! I'll stick with pain meds, zanaflex (generic STILL! $288 for 30 day supply! - thieves), homeopathic leg/back cramp tonic, external rubs/patches and the stretching and tiny bit of exercises and once around the block with the walker walking until I get this under control ... again.Read More Read Less

Taking this medication for sleep, as I have major insomnia. It only lets me sleep for 3 hours. Very, very vivid & halucinative & scary dreams. Major headaches the next day

I've been using this due to my severe insomnia. One 4mg pill knocked me out the first night for 3 hours straight. I've taken 2 & slept real well last night. It seems to have a half short life, so no hang over effect the next day, just a real dry mouth, that gets better with use

This is Sunday morning,January 20,2013. I was prescribed this medication by my/ ob/gyn a few days ago. In Nov. 2012, I had emergency surgery to have left ovary removed, after 2 ultrasounds and other muscle relaxers--which amounted to tic-tacs. I was going through the other med every couple hours with no relief. The doctor found it hard to believe the tolerance I have for another pain med..which doctors don't want to prescribe anymore, due to abuse. But,at least on that other pain med, with one 10 mg tablet, I was able to work my 8-hour shift at my job-retail,big-box store, sales associate....moving pallets of freight,or being called to run a register Even though the label says 2 tablets 3 times daily (4 mg each). I only started with one tablet at night. Every other review is right. You sure will sleep well. I slept great Saturday night..but then,I took 2 tablets and my 25 mg Topamax for migraine prevention which also has a side effect of being drowsy. I think I am going back to just taking one Zanaflex just before bed,so I don't need help getting there like last night. I slept about 12 hours. It's a good thing I don't have to be at work until 2:00 p.m. I will have to be super careful to make sure this medicine is out of my system when I go to work this afternoon. I woke up with more abdominal pain at the surgery site, and took two tablets this morning. No more. There is no way I am taking 2 at a time anymore f I have to drive somewhere. I sure can't take 2 at work. This might be good if you were at home with time off to recover from an injury. By the way...for other folks with migraines who thought this might help...I've had this migraine 18 days now because my BCBS thru my work decided I only needed 4 Imitrex in Dec instead of all 9. The 9 I got in Jan--I already used them, along with getting 2 50 mg Demerol shots, and insurance forgot to send a new authorization to my migraine dr so I could continue my Botox. This med not helping with migraine either.Read More Read Less

I have Tardive Dyskinesia, which is very painful, my muscles spasm so severe. I also have Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis plus more! I have been on Flexerill, Soma for years, which does not work. The Zanaflex has been Wonderful! My pain level would be around 7-10, now it's around 4-7. I'm very happy, it has helped give my life back somewhat. I have had No side effects, I usually have a few side effects with all medicine.

I had very severe negative side effects from taking this medication over the period of one night (couldn't even bring myself to take it one more night). I got very dizzy/drowsy, had severe hallucinations/delusions/extreme confusion, and had to literally crawl upstairs to go to bed because it sedated every muscle in my body. The next morning I woke up feeling "hung-over" and had no alcohol or other medications in my system. In addition, I had extremely blurred vision (and seeing doubles) to the point it caused me to have severe migraines all day long at work (which I have never had before) - not to mention I have always had 20/20 vision (never had any blurred vision in my life). On top of all of these awful side-effects (as if they weren't bad enough) - I was very irritable, aggitated, paranoid, depressed, extremely anxious, nervousness, worsening of neck/back pain/stiffness, and just kept snapping at everyone for no reason at all. As a result, I decided to switch back to my 10mg Flexeril's. I may just need to consult with my doctor for modification of my dosage of the Flexeril. I am glad that this medication has worked for some; however, I wasn't fortunate enough for it to work for me. Read More Read Less

I have been diagnosed with Isaacs Syndrome and this drug along with a Pain Killer and seizure medication have helped me cope with the symptoms of this disease. There is no Cure for Isaacs Syndrome so I may be on this drug therapy for the rest of my life. I'm very glad it has helped me.

I started on Zanaflex about 3 weeks ago, 4 mgs 3 times a day. The first dose really knocked me for a loop, so I knew after that not to take it when I had something important to do. I've found that it makes me very sleepy, so I only take 2 mgs during the day if I need it. I researched this drug carefully and noted that some were having hallucinations with taking it, so when I starting seeing things during the night, I knew what to expect, so I didn't freak out. Actually, knowing that it's just the medication, I've found them very entertaining, not scary. I've told my family about some of them and we all had a good laugh. I know I'm not going "batty", so I just accept them as part of the medication. It helps relieve the pain and allows me to sleep so a little inconvenience doesn't bother me. This and the dry mouth is about all I'm bothered with. I'm loving this medication. I've been in pain so long and so thankful that my doctor finally prescribed me something that works. After being addicted to Oxycontin and going through Rehab, this is a breeze!! I love it.Read More Read Less

I have been taking this in addition to Baclofen for several years for spasticity due to multiple sclerosis. I can definitely tell when I don't take it - my legs are much worse. I'm not sure if its the baclofen, zanaflex or the combo that does make me a little sleepy, but I overcome that by getting up from my desk and moving around for a few minutes. I've not had any other side effects and personally I couldn't live without zanaflex - it makes that much of a difference in my spasticity.

I've used 4mg/3 x a day for 5 years , after developing an irregular heart beat, extreme high blood pressure, stomach problems and a 100k worth of tests that showed nothing that could cause such severe symptoms I stopped all medication to detox my body this is the only medication I have not started using again and every problem has resolved by stopping this drug. For short term use it's a miracle drug but long term use is a bad idea.
