It is the ONLY medicine that stops my horrible cough when I have bronchitis. I think the syrup form is a bonus. It Instantly stops me from coughing and soothes my throat. It also lets you get a good nights sleep.

After taking a teaspoon of hydromet cough syrup; I went to bed and woke up the next morning with the room spinning, I was hospitalized for 3 days, diagnoised with vertigo;19 months later with a army of doctors and therapists, I have yet to fully recover, it has been a total nightmare.

Absolutely horrible. Within 30 min of taking this medication for a cough my husband and I both had nausea. My nausea was so bad I began vomitting. We each had horrible headaches immediately after taking the medication and for the entire following day as well.

Hydromet was horrible for me. It did help slightly with the dry persistent cough, but the post nausea, rash and inability to sleep were not worth it. Keep in mind hydromet contains homatropine which is more or less there to prevent abuse. Unfortunately, those of use that use meds like they were intended now have to get medicine which has additives to prevent overuse. In my case, I think the homatropine is what made this stuff unbearable. Calling the dr this morning to get my usual Tussionex. I would not recommend this to a friend.Read More Read Less

Does not seem to work very well for me. Within first hour, it slightly lessened cough but did not make it go away. Coughing fit returns after 4 hours. It didn't keep me awake but definitely didn't make me fall asleep, either. I did get a headache but not sure if that is a side effect or just from sickness/lack of sleep. May continue taking it, but in the future, I wouldn't want another prescription.

I'm recovering from Hairy Cell Leukemia and have cold issues due to a weakened immune system. I've battled pneumonia three times in the past year and a half alone. Hydromet syrup is excellent for dry, nasty, persistent coughs. It is a narcotic, so you should take care not to overdo it, but it works much better than any of the over the counter cough suppressants. I experienced no side effects and didn't get any of the hyperactivity problems others have written about. In fact, I think it made me a little drowsy (not sleepy) and comfortable. I recommend it wholeheartedly for cough.Read More Read Less

Very effective initially in dealing with a chronic cough and raw throat but I needed increasingly larger doses. While this medication would make me drowsy during the day, it had the opposite effect at night, keeping me awake. I also observed a coincident decrease in libido, so I couldn't even 'enjoy' not being able to sleep.

Have used when necessary for 3 yrs. Had to get new R/X this yr. Only thing that helps me sleep when allergies attack, which is why the feds will probably pull it. No problem with side effects. Everybody's body is different.

Nothing would make my cough better until I took this drug. Did experience loss of appetite, a slight headache, and dizziness, but it helped my body relax, aided sleep and stopped the runny nose that was making my throat so sore. I don't think it would be a good idea for me to drive while on this medicine, while others have said it doesn't affect them at all. My recommendation is to definitely see how it affects you before trying it.

Stopped the cough, but is short acting (about 4 hours). It is a narcotic, so I axpected to feel strange (lightheaded, sleepy) really no other side effects. Did what I needed it to do. Works better than anything else I have ever tried.

Horrible drug. Doctor told me this would help me sleep. It kept me wide awake, and made me crazy. I would not recomend this drug to anyone. IT WILL KEEP YOU AWAKE ALL NIGHT. The best cough medication I ever had was Pancof-HC. It worked really good. It would help me sleep, relieve cough and aches, but for some reason I can't find a drug store that has it anymore. I guess it worked to well and it was taken off the market like anything else that works.

My doctor gave me this for a cough. It DOES help, but the purpose of this particular medicine (according to her) was to help me sleep since the cough has kept me awake. It does the EXACT opposite though. I take it and have racing thoughts, get very hyperactive, and sweat -- even though it's winter. I've had to take cold showers just from this medicine. It does help the cough, but that's it. I can't take it before bed though with those side effects and that's when I need it the most. It's either cough and stay up all night or not cough, but stay up all night anyway.Read More Read Less

I took this medication from july 2010 until Oct 9th. Very bad phlem and chest congestion causing wheezing and hydromet controlled these symptoms fantastic with no side effects.. The taste was very good... problem?!! addicting! Do nothave addictive personality, was taking as directed at first, then ramped up the teaspoons by one... bottom line, have not had any since the 9th, and am experiencing bad withdrawal symptoms, lightheadeadness, dizzy, very bad dirreaheah... i can never use this again.. works tooooooo well and didnt even realize what was going on with me, taking it while not needing it. Has codeine/vicodin, realized it was taking my chest congestion away as well as your basic worries in life!! beware...!! good stuff if u take as directed only.Read More Read Less

I had a severe cough and it did make it go away and kept me from coughing through the night but...I have never been so sick from side effects as with this medication! I couldn't sleep - it actually kept me awake, horrible (HORRIBLE) headache, vision problems, extremely sick to my stomach, etc. I will NEVER use this medication again.

I was perscribed this medication to help with coughing related to sinus and severe allergies. I have been on many different combinations of allergy meds such as Claritin, Flonase, Astalin, Benadryl, Atterax, Alagra, and Clarinex. None have been fully effective depending on seasonal conditions like during hey fever season. Hydromet contains a antihistmine that for me works very well with out drowsiness like Benadryl causes. Due to a family history of high blood presure my droctor won't allow me the use of decongestants like Psutaphed. For anyone with severe allergies, (especially in locations like Norther Ohio), if your doctor will work with you Hydromet my be a very helpful medication during peek alergy season to relieve sinus pain and prevent sinus infections. It worked very well for me.Read More Read Less
