I read the reviews two nights ago after I had received Synvisc One in my left knee. I have no cartilage left and have exhausted all other options. The reviews made me nervous. It was too late to turn back. My knee was uncomfortable after the shot (felt like a wedge of rubber was stuffed in my knee joint). But I kept telling myself, you've gone from no cartilage to what amounted to full cartilage. ...

I was very scared to get the shots. Needed it in both knees. Just had it done 4 hours ago and it was nothing like some of the people said. they numbed the area with a freezing spray and injected the needle on the side of the knee. It felt like a regular shot. Not really painful at all and very quick. I'm hoping I get the benefits from the shots but won't know for a few weeks. If you relax your leg, it helps it to not be painful.I put this off for a year because of my fear and now I feel rediculous and should have done it then. Don't be afraid to try it. Good Luck!Read More Read Less

I am very happy with the results. The MD told me that it was going to take about a month to feel the complete results. He was right, one month later I am pain free. I am also doing exercises at home to rehab which I could not do prior to the medication.

Reading some of the other reviews it seems that I am taking a different drug. I have now begun my 3rd year with Synvisc. I agree that the injections are a little uncomfortable but they have never been painful and I've now had 8 of them. My doctor uses a topical anesthetic but one does feel an uncomfortable pressure as the gel is injected but it has never hurt. My knees feel puffy each time but I've never had a problem walking away from the doctor's office. I've experienced a little benefit at the beginning but synvisc doesn't really start working at it best for three to four weeks. I would suggest that if your experience differs then you either have problems other than OA or the person who injected your knees didn't do it correctly. With Synvisc, I am able to walk and ride without discomfort which makes my life an awful lot better and it postpones knee replacement. Read More Read Less

1st day was uncomfortable, 2nd day was better, and today, the 3rd day I have spent most the day without my unloader brace and have experienced almost no discomfort. I am a weenie when it comes to shots and this one wasn't something to sneeze at. Will I do it again? If today is any indication of what's to come, then my answer is absolutely. I am 54 and am not ready to go through a knee replacement. If I can hold off for another 2-3 years, then great. Make sure your dr. uses numbing spray and novacaine. Once your knee is numb, the shot is still uncomfortable because of the pressure. For me, it was 6 ml. of liquid going into a non-existant space. It was like "jacking" the bones apart. I won't lie, the first two days were uncomfortable (but less painful than before the shot) and my knee felt really wierd. But given that my knee was excruciatingly painful to walk on before the shot, I didn't have anything to lose. All things are relative!Read More Read Less

I have osteoarthritis in both knees, particularly right knee. Saw brochure for Synvisc One in doctor's office. Asked about it; he ordered X-ray. He used a numbing shot and then the Synvis One. Could hardly stand after the injection. With help, got to the car. Iced knee for the evening and hung out on the couch. By the next evening, I was up getting dinner. I can now get down on my knees to line up a golf putt--an even get up--something I've had trouble doing for the last year or so. I have high blook pressure, among other things, take a lot of medication, so don't like to take pain meds every day. Hope it lasts--would definitely have it again if needed.Read More Read Less

After two knee surgeries, my ortho suggested the shot. It was done by a tech and was less painful than my annual flu shot. A little knee swelling and minimal pain at the injection site for 24 hours, but that's it. I know I'm not expecting any help for 3-4 weeks, but it seems to have minimally helped after a few days. If it has only a slight positive impact, well worth it. Make sure they use some numbing agent before the shot. I think that makes all the difference in the world.

Four knee surgeries and one high tibial osteotomy for an active 44 year old with osteoarthrits. Tried Synvisc-One on recommendation for the knee without the HTO. The injection with a 14 gage needle was extremely uncomfortable but quick (about a minute); doc didn't prep the knee with any pain relief beforehand which might have helped. After a 20 minute wait and some ice I was able to walk from the clinic unassisted and without any pain. There is a bit of swelling, but not bad; no other adverse issues within the first 72 hours. I've noticed a modest improvement in stiffness and pain. A good start over all. Read More Read Less

Received injection Wed 3/9/11; 5 days ago. Injection was uncomfortable and knee had alot of swelling. Knee felt very unstable the first couple of days. Swelling has gone down but not completely; knee beginning to get some strength back. After only 5 days unable to know if this injection will benefit my knee.

I just received my first Synvsc 1 shot yesterday p.m. and am in considerable but not unbearable pain. I cannot bend my knee or put weight on it yet. I've had 2 sets of the 3 shots during the past 5 years and the last set has lasted 3 years with the help of a knee brace. I lead a very busy, active life and couldn't do that without Synvsc. I hope the Synvsc 1 will be as effective as the 2 series of 3 shots have been. I know the Synvsc 1 was more painful than the series but was glad to only have one shot and am sure it will be better in a couple of days.Read More Read Less

I have been playing Tournament Tennis since 1973. I have had 2 knee surgerys involving cartilage. 1980 and 1991. Starting 7 months ago after I play tennis my knee was so sore that I had to wait 2-3 weeks to play again. The Dr. says its from arthritus. He suggested Synvisc 1. Starting about 3 weeks after the shot I can play tennis everyday if I want. The pain is 100% gone. No side effect at all from the shot. I just had a second shot because the pain started coming back. It's suppose to last around 6 months. That's the good news. The only negative, if its' a negative at all is that the shot allows me to play tennis more than I would beable to. Without the shot I could play 10 times in the last 6 months. With the shot I played atleast 20 times. So because of this I could be wearing out what cartilage is left quicker, because of the shot allowing me to do more.Read More Read Less

Got synvisc-one shot a month ago in right knee. No side effects. Got shot right knee 1/5/2011. First day fine then swelling, pain, unable to bend leg and walk on it. Unable to sleep and keeps swelling. Never again! Wish I had read all of these experiences before getting this shot.

I am 54 years old, and 5.5 years out from a serious multiple fracture of tib-fib, and tibeal plateau after falling from ladder. I walk with a cane, and have had 3 series of Synvisc 1-2-3 with little side effect and minimal pain. Also good results. I was told of the SynviscOne by my orthopod. It sounded great, as I needed to be out of town and would not be available for the other 2 injections. What a mistake! The injection was progressively more painful from the increased volume of this injection, which I did not know about. I had to leave in a wheelchair after about 10 minutes of excruciating pain. My knee felt unstable, and I could not weight bear, or bend it. Reaching home was difficult, as I could not support myself, and had to be helped in by my husband, leaning on his shoulder, and with a cane. It was a painful night, even after Aleve. Considered taking hydrocodone. This is day 1, and still painful...but actually feels better after standing for a while, as it relieves some of the internal pressure...hope it gets better...a little frightening after reading the other entries. Will update.Read More Read Less

Have had osteoarchritis in both knees for a couple of years. Has a arthoscopy 6-months back which tidied up a cartilege tear but still had pain. So, consultant recommended trying synvisc one. I had the jab 1-week ago. I just wanted to reassure people (having read many reviews) that, in my case anyway, the jab was painless with no side affects at all (nothing). So far there hasnt been any real improvement in my condition but the Doc say it can take up to 3-weeks so fingers crossed. As other reviewers have stated make sure you have 100% confidence in the Doc doing the jab. It seemed at simple procedure to me as the jab is to the knee cavity - not into any cartilege areas. All the best.Read More Read Less

Medial meniscus removed in '78. Spiral fracture involving knee in '98. Knee replacement is inevitable. Had never heard of Synvisc. Went to ortho to discuss knee replacement and he suggested it. Other than insurance company runaround, it is a complete success. Dr. shot some Xylocaine or something in there before the Synvisc. NO PAIN. Knee swelled up for a couple of days and maybe throbbed a little but the recduction in pain from the arthritis was immediate and amazing. My only advice would be to have a sports medicine or joint replacement specialist do it. My take on reading reviews about it is that some doctors just do not know how to properly inject it.Read More Read Less

BEWARE!!! I had the Synvisc 1 injection because of pain from a microfracture and I immediately could not bend my leg after the injection. Very painful. I had intense pain, swelling and my leg felt burning and itching, like an allergic reaction from mid-thigh to my ankle. My doctor acted like it was all in my head and tried to tell me the problem was arthritis (never had this problem until the day of the injection). I have had a steriod shot, no help, and NSAID Celibrex which helped a tiny bit. It is 6 MONTHS later, and the swelling, pain, burning and itching circle around the knee fully. Nothing helps and my Dr. still says it can't be... he should have this for the fun of it!!! No help anywhere that I have found. I hope with time it will wear off, but it has not yet. Much more pain and issues than before I had the injection. NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! Read More Read Less
