I've had extreme fatigue for the last 15 years. It started after I was diagnosed with Mono and it never went away. I would take a nap any chance I got. After work, I would come home and fall asleep. If that was not possible, I would lay around with no energy to do the needed tasks. I negated my duties as a wife and mother and did the minimal amount. It was an extreme sacrifice to do anything ...

I have narcolepsy w/o cataplexy. I was on provigil for almost a year, eventually increasing to 600mg daily. I was irritable, couldn't drive more then 20 minutes, and still had sleep attacks. I was leary of Nuvigil, but tried it at my Neurologist's request. I have been surprised at how much better 300mg of nuvigil works. Friends, family, and co-workers have really noticed a difference, as have I. I can safely drive for about an hour- I haven't tried longer distances. No sleep attacks during waking hours, no insomnia. Sleep paralysis has worsened upon awakening, but I find that to be a small price to pay for the benefits.Read More Read Less

I am 30 and have been in pain management for 5 years due to disc problems and scar tissue related to back surgeries (L4/L5 - L5/S1 Discectomy/Lamenectomy.) Unfortunately, the heavy, daily doses of narcotics cause me extreme fatigue. (Fentanyl patches and immediate release oxicodone and morphine) I am also a gastric bypass patient (9 years - 130 lbs. kept off!!) which leads to mal-absorption and I must take high doses of all meds multiple times per day. I was on Provigil 400mg/day for over 2yrs and it def helped my work effort and rapport. Just this month was perscribed Nuvigil 250/day. I was hesitant for any significant change b/c I know the drug company did it to start a new US drug patent and thought it was just about more $ for them. (They are f-in expensive w/o insurance) However, this stuff is amazing!! - I am a LOT more alert and productive. I am a High School teacher and need all the help I can get to keep/stay up with my students. I am not "high" and can drive and work with ease. I highly recommend the change from Pro- to Nuvigil. Heck, if the pharm. co. is making more $, from my experience, they deserve it!! Oh Happy Teacher!Read More Read Less

If that was not possible, I would lay around with no energy to do the needed tasks. I negated my duties as a wife and mother and did the minimal amount. It was an extreme sacrifice to do anything for my family because of the energy that was required. Simply going to the park to play took an enormous toll. Most doctors just attributed this fatigue to depression, which I do have. Finally someone listened and did not write off my fatigue! I have been taking Nuvigil 150mg/day for three days and cannot believe how much better I feel. I haven't craved a nap and I feel like an energetic child again. I also feel happier. The day-to- day activities that I used to dread are now activities that I enjoy doing. The only side effects I have noticed are dry mouth and insomnia. I'm hoping the insomnia will decrease, but after sleeping excessively for 15 years, a little insomnia doesn't bother me in the least.Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed, 3 yrs ago last March, w/ Narcolepsy w/o Cataplexy, mild (my term only) Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and "wiggly legs when asleep" (not RLS). I had been sleeping 18-20hrs a day, unable to think or function the few hours I wasn't asleep, and gaining weight steadily. I have ALWAYS required more sleep than anyone I have known, but finally crashed and burned about 4 yrs ago. After 6mo of testing,I started a number of new meds and continued some others to get a sleep/awake/sleep/awake cycle. Provigil was part of the daytime regime; 1 daily. It seemed to be helping. About a year ago I began experiencing increased daytime sleepiness and gaining back 40 of the 60 lbs it took me a year to lose. Dr doubled the Provigil; and doubled my Effexor. That helped, but not much. Less than 1 mo ago, I began Nuvigil; 150mg daily. The difference is VERY noticeable! It helped a bunch, but it seems that it is still not quite enough. So, I will be talking to Dr about it at my upcoming appt. Insurance didn't seem to be a problem. Read More Read Less

I have Bipolar I. I was sleeping for 12-14 hours a day. I tried the Provigil after waiting a month and a half for insurance approval, but it gave me bad headaches. I told the neurologist and she switched me to Nuvigil 150. It's been like a miracle drug! I stay awake all day, manage to clean, shower, cook and walk the dogs. It makes my thoughts clearer, I'm able to make decisions and I'm not isolated any more! I can actually drive to places I've never been before. My mood is totally lifted. About 2 weeks before I started this drug my husband had to take my psych meds out of the house, I had a therapist calling me every day. I was very ill. Once I got started on the Nuvigil it was like the sun coming out after the rain. My husband had never seen me happy before, he's only seen me being depressed and sleepy so he attributed it to the manic side of bipolar. I'm not manic. It's the effect the drug is having on me. I just feel great. Happy. Healthy. I read where Cephalon is conducting research studies for the use of Nuvigil in patients with bipolar and they're having great success. Unfortunately it hasn't been approved by the FDA for people suffering with bipolar. More clinical trials are being planned. Anyway, Nuvigil has given me a second chance at living my life instead of sleeping it away. Thank you Cephalon! Now if I can jsut get my insurance to cover it, things will be good. I've received 2 denials so far, but it took 3 attempts to get the Provigil approved. The Doc will keep trying and hopefully keep me in enough samples until it's approved. I can drive just fine while using Nuvigil but couldn't when I was on the psych meds alone. I never even left the house. I know I'm going on and on but this is the best I've felt since 1999 and I want everyone to know it!Read More Read Less

I have Multiple Sclerosis and my Neurologist suggested to try this. I was taking Provigil. I have not tried to take either every morning because they seem to make me feel "high" and spaced out. I am awake and alert but I do not like that "high" feeling so I only take the medication when I have to be alert and awake for important activities. WARNING!! DO NOT DRIVE OR OPERATE MACHINERY, HEAVY EQUIPMENT. Your coordination may be compromised. I am totally disabled due to many symptoms caused by the MS. I am still able to walk so I like to be able to do symple things like take care of my personal hygene, clean my home and walk my dog.Read More Read Less

I began taking Nuvigil 1 month ago and I can completely tell a difference! For the past 25 years I have been laying down every chance I get to take a nap on Sundays. This past Sunday was the first time I had no other plans and did not lay down for a nap. I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and RA and I have been able to completely come off all pain meds. I feel better than I have in A KONG TIME! I am thankful my doctor knew about this drug and extremely thankful my insurance covers it.

I have been taking Provigil (For what seems like 10 years or more now) for Excessive Sleepniess caused by Narcolepsy and Mild Weight Related Apnea. I have switched to Nuvigil for the last month, and am sort of dissapointed. While I find myself more awake and alert, I find that I crash in the afternoon and must take a nap, or take more of my Dextrostat which I use in the morning. It's just not as long lasting as the provigil seemed to be. If your switching be careful driving until you know the effects. Read More Read Less

Well,I took my first pill this morning, I was on Provigil but it gave me a headache everyday. So the doctor thought maybe I could try this Nuvigil, I can feel the effects already. I have Fibromyalgia, and no energy. This is good because I feel energetic but not the high feeling. Hopefully, this one won't give me headaches. So far so good, will comment again in a week. Molly

have been on Provigil for years 600mg, worked great. Ins. issues and wouldn't approve full dose, so they added Adderall 40mg on weekends which worked good. Ins. change again, now HAVE to have Nuvigil. Not sure yet what I think, too early to tell but can tell a difference between Nuvigil and Provigil, Provigil kept me up all day-taking 400mg in am/200 in pm. Still tired with the Nuvigil 250mg- may add a 20mg of Adderall to it and see if it helps.

Nuvagil has been fairly effective for me consdering how I was before I started taking it. I take 1 tablet(150 mg) with breakfast and it usually gets me through a good share of the day before I start to get a sleepy spell. I`d recomend it to anyone who has trouble staying awake during the day.
