My son has been diagnosed ADD for since age 6 and is now 8. At first we tried working 1/1 with school psychologist and made many action plans, rewarding him when he focused most of day, also eating good diet and vitamins fish oil and ADDED Attention. Bad bad bad. I see a lawsuit. No reputable doctor should have the gall to say a child needs this.

My 8yr old has been on stimulants for his ADHD since he was 4 - they were awful for him - weight loss, slow growth, little sleep, anti-social. Our doctor moved him to Intuniv and while not perfect, I feel his is a more normal 8yr old. He eats, sleeps and plays with others - his outbursts are few and far between and he has grown an inch and a half this last month! So far love intuniv!!!!!

Our doctor suggested this medicine for my 10 year old son who has ADHD. During school, he takes Adderall during the day and clonidine and melatonin at night--this works extremely well to help him sleep. We tried a short acting version of Intuniv for sleep and it didn't work at all-so I wanted to let others know that Clonidine may be worth a try for getting sleep! Per his doctor's suggestion, I tried a small dose of Clonidine in the morning to see if it would help with his moodiness and it has, successfully! I was reading these reviews to see if we wanted to try the Intuniv during school...Read More Read Less

I was completely against medication but decided to try Intuniv for my son who was doing very very poorly socially and academically in kindergarten. He was so hyperactive and careless that he had no friends and was already labeled the "bad boy." My son is 5 years old and we started 1mg of Intuniv five days ago. He takes one pill every morning. So far, his side effects include sleepiness and a bit of crying. His feelings have been hurt easily and he has bursted out in tears a few times. This is very different from his normal carelessness and hyperactive state. I am unsure how I feel about it. The medicine has worked quite well and he is now able to sit and focus in class and even his kindergarten classmates have commented on how pleasant he has been. He appears a bit too mellow for my liking, but can still manage a smile and a quick joke. I feel as though it is going great, but am uncomfortable with his emotional sensitivity. He is also having difficulty sleeping at night which may contribute to being sluggish throughout the day.Read More Read Less

I was given this for "Hypersensitivity" to my surroundings and not being able to concentrate. I have anxiety, but knew it was something else. After explaining, and explaining, i was given this.. I didn't have any issues easing into the starter. Of course everyone will have the initial reaction (tired) because you just gave your body a foreign substance. But it went away at the 2mg mark and at 3 i see a HUGE difference. I can actually focus and enjoy the things i couldn't enjoy for a long time.

IF YOU HAVE LOW BLOOD PRESSURE, DO NOT TAKE INTUNIV! My psychiatrist gave me the starter kit, and I took 1 mg. I also have a fairly low blood pressure, so the medication made it drop even lower. The first night I took Intuniv, I was so tired, I couldn't remember what happened, but when I woke up, I was so groggy, I was literally paralyzed for ten minutes. The next night, I took intuniv again, and three hours later, I woke up with my hands aching, and my body feeling like I was about to die, and then, I fainted. I figured out taking intuniv is not the right option of ADHD treatment for me.Read More Read Less

I am a 37 year old big boy with the triumvirate of ADHD, OCD and Tourette's since early childhood. Overall, I feel being on Intuniv has been a good experience with few problematic side effects. High intelligence and a lot of help got me through grade school and college, but I had difficulty with employment, and first started meds while struggling to earn my PhD. Intuniv was of interest because it would not exacerbate and perhaps help my severe OCD/Anxiety and tics. I feel calmer and better able to handle my emotions and impulsive reactions, but the effect is subtle. The most positive outcome has been an improvement in sleep (which has always been a problem for me), and near remission of severe nightmares and night terrors (which I experienced every night before starting the med.) Overall, though, it is still hard to keep up with the demands of work, social expectations, and school. ADHD is a lifelong struggle, which only gets harder as you have more independence and adult responsibilities. I have found I still need some Ritalin or Focalin to keep up motivation and productivity on busy days with complex schedules. I also still struggle with decision-making and other PFC-executive functions, such as prioritizing, self-monitoring, and controlling mood and attention. I should note that I did not experience ANY sedation, unlike most other patients I read about. My doc, who sees a lot of kids, didn't think I'd experience any tiredness, given my baseline hyperactivity and permanent state of wiredness, and he was right. The only significant negative side effect I have had is severe constipation, another fun holdover from childhood. I have to eat tons of fiber and dried fruits to maintain any regularity, and it is still painful and a constant problem. Overall, I have seen enough improvements in my quality of life that I am sticking with it. Unlike stimulants, which I become tolerant to very quickly, Intuniv supposedly improves efficacy over time. My 6-year-old son was prescribed Intuniv 1 mg a day. During the first week, it works. He was calm and was able to sit still in the restaurant. His teachers reported he was able to sit well in class and focus. However, on the second week, his old self is back. He ran around like crazy in the museum. He plays pranks on his older brother. He falls asleep around 3 pm which he never does in 4 years. He seems to get very tired in the afternoon and became more hyperactive. I don't think increasing the dose is good for him because he blood pressure is already dropping at 1 mg. I plan to stop this medication.Read More Read Less

My son (almost 13 now) has been taking this med 3 years. He has *packed* on the pounds, even getting a note from his school about his high BMI. This is a boy who was always active in a good way and who burned off everything he ate. He craves carbs and (because it's a BP med?) he doesn't want to do anything that requires moving his now-chubby body. Worst of all, his level of focus, impulsivity and executive skills have not substantially improved in three years. Every child is unique so that's great for those for whom this works, but I'm ready to try him on something else, even if it means stimulants.Read More Read Less

But throughout 3 years of school, it was obvious he needed more. My husband and I were so scared of starting him on meds, especially stimulants, so we started Intuniv 1 mg for a week and now on 2 mg for second week. He was a little sleepy the first 2-3 days and then was fine. I have seen good results so far, not as easy to argue and works well with others and not as 'one track minded' as he usually is. He has always been a sweet kid and a hugger, still is and he seems like his thoughts are more organized and can voice his oppinions in a clear way. I am hoping when school starts his teacher sees a good change like I have. So far, I'm happy with Intuniv, as this was a very difficult choice to try any medication at all.Read More Read Less

My 6 year old son took this med for a period of 5 days. He experienced stomach pain, drowsiness, tiredness, dry mouth along with a strange twitch. The worst side effect was he was in a state of depression for the entire 5 days. I wanted my normal child back so I stopped the med immediately. I want him to enjoy his summer and be normal so will just see what happens when school starts. If he starts having trouble focusing, I will call the dr.

My son is taking this for his violent/abusive behavior in school and home. It seems to be a very good medication. I too have noticed a slight discoloration of gray/green in his face, but other than that 2 mg seems to work for my kid and he is a big one for his age. You have to monitor what type of activities the child takes due to it slowing their roll. My son easily gets exhausted if he does too much exhertion. But, I have also noticed an increase in his water intake and urination. There is also a concern with dry lips and skin which easily remedied by lip ointment and lotion. He is on a few other medications he takes along with this, but this one was our first prescribed and I believe it is working for my son. Use in small doses and it is a lot better on the child. It is very sedative at higher doses and should be taken in controlled settings.Read More Read Less

First of all I'm a Christian mom so I had to pray about doing any of this because it scared me. My 12 year old son has ADHD with mild Asbergers Autism, he is 5'8 & 232 lbs. Details: My son started on focalin (I think thats the spelling); it made around his eyes dark & he was mad all the time. We than switched to Adderall which worked so so for about a year, than he developed facial tics (involuntary head movements). He prescribed the Intuitive to stop the facial tics & seal the gap so to speak with his thought process because the Adderall turned his brain but not the full brain. Good: The Intuitive medication made him extremely relaxed, loving, and to me it slowed down his thinking which allowed for him to began to analyze everyday situations. Bad: It made him extremely tired (he dosed off almost everywhere), feel faint, & caused bad headache's. Outcome: Due to the headaches, the doctor & myself (I'm involved) decided to take him off of the medication. He wasn't on the medication long enough for me to check out the long term side effects. The doctor prescribed Cogentin to stop the facial tics (and it did). Next medication that will be tried is Stratterra. I'll keep you guys posted. God bless! Read More Read Less

This medication was prescribed to me because of my ADD (no hyperactivity). I was on Straterra for about 2 years, but it wasn't helping much anymore. I currently take Prozac for my anxiety and depression. I am a recovering addict so I do not take a habit forming drugs. I was really looking forward to taking Intuniv because my doc had great results with other patients. It was awful. Made me very sleepy even on a full 8 hours of sleep. I was oversleeping. I was falling asleep at work. I was eating a lot which was making me more depressed because I work hard to maintain my weight. It was affecting my life so negatively that I didn't want to risk taking it another week.Read More Read Less

My 9 yo son has Aspergers and we finally, in desperation, agreed to try something to help him gain control over his aggressive/impulsive behavior. At first, he was exhausted all the time, even on just 1mg. That lasted months and months, but it was better than the hitting and kicking, so we stuck it out with the pediatrician's advice that it would get better. He eventually overcame the sleepiness and is now taking 3mg and is a much kinder, gentler, thoughtful kid. He would even testify to how happy he is with the results. Our only struggle, when he first started, was getting the pills down. Because he's already over-sensitive, he gagged on them. We tried everything, but the final cure came in the form of Danimals! Now he gets them down in 1 swallow!!!Read More Read Less

My 8 year old has been on this drug in combination with Concerta for almost a year. It has done wonders for us! He finally sits in his seat, can focus and concentrate in school, is finally reading (because he can sit long enough to focus on doing it!) and pays attention in class. We are up to 2 mg. It is perfect but it has sure helped him tremendously. We give him his meds with breakfast and besides having a headache and being sleepy for a day or two when he first started taking it and again when we upped his dose, he has had no side affects. Like I said, it is not perfect but if he misses a day of taking his medication we can definitely tell the medication is working! My husband and I were very anti medication for years regarding our youngest. We have seen the benefits. Read More Read Less

We recently started our 10 y/o son Intunive. Started out on 1mg for 1 week and it seemed ok he could definitly notice that he was drowsy. It seemed to really make him OCD he wanted to organize EVERYTHING. We bumped it up to 2mg the second week as instructed by our doctor and we had the same result as WorriedStepMom in her review. He was very zombie like and NOT the same child. He was very tired and his eyes were just crazy, it was like he was just going thru the motions. We will probably try a different medication. Im sure this works great for some children but its just not for us.Read More Read Less

My 8 year old step son was on Intuniv for a few months after being switched from Focalin for lack of weight gain. The Intuniv started out fine. A month later he was tired all the time, emotional, argueing, and being negative about himself. My mother always asked if he was feeling ok because his eyes looked strange. (like you can look at someone and see in their eyes they dont feel good). His coloring was also off, he was a grayish/green instead of tannish pink. He always looked like he was about to vomit. Did anyone else experience this with their kids when on this medication? He is now on Adderall which worries us because we dont want him losing weight or stop gaining weight. He is 8 and wasnt even in the 80% for weight and he is 5 foot.Read More Read Less

I have an 18 year old son who has been on ADD medication since the 4th grade. Beginning his senior year he was taking 60 mg of generic Ritalin, everything was ok but our Dr. Recommended that we got talk to a psychiatrist and see if he had any suggestions for the type of medication my son should be on that may be better for him. We met with a counselor and psychiatrist and they recommended adding Intuniv 1mg. It took about one week for my sons digestive system to get used to it ( he was having some diarrhea and not sleeping) by after that week past it was clear that the combination of drugs was doing it job. He was taking the intunive at night and he switched to morning. I've never seen my child so happy. He is excelling in school and it has been wonderful. I don't normally write reviews, but I thought other moms and their kids would like to hear a success story. God Bless YouRead More Read Less
