My son has been diagnosed ADD for since age 6 and is now 8. At first we tried working 1/1 with school psychologist and made many action plans, rewarding him when he focused most of day, also eating good diet and vitamins fish oil and ADDED Attention. But throughout 3 years of school, it was obvious he needed more. My husband and I were so scared of starting him on meds, especially stimulants, s...

Bad bad bad. I see a lawsuit. No reputable doctor should have the gall to say a child needs this.

My 7 year old son has ADD/ADHD and started Intuniv about 2 months ago. He only took 1 mg for the first month and it helped significantly with his attention in school and with other activities. He was able to focus better and actually complete a task on his own that he could not do without constant reminders before the medicine. We bumped him up to 2 mg and it was too much, made him really sleepy even after 2 weeks and during the night he was up all the time. So we went back down to 1mg and he is still doing well. We tried Vyvance prior to Intuniv and that was a nightmare so we are really pleased with this one. My son is also diabetic so this one does not affect his appetite which is REALLY important. Since going on in intuniv,I have been seeing spots and partially blacking out most times I stand up, where beforehand I only did that once every few weeks, but currently the dosage is only 2mg and I could go up to 4mg. I feel pretty drowsy but that's cause I only get 7 or so hours of sleep a night. I'm not sure how effective it is because during the week I also take vyvanse 40mg(hoping to lower it soon).

Thank you FL mom. My oldest daughter is on Strattera is is going great with it. My 5 year old is still having violent outbursts during the day but not as many. I still have to restrain her cause she likes to bite, spit and hurt herself. Hope this med really helps her and her doc can put her on something to help her keep calm thru out the day.

My son is 5 and has been taken Intuniv for 10 months now. We went quickly from the 1mg to the 2mg and were on that for several months and now have gone up to the 3mg. Intuniv has worked really well on calming him down. Which that alone helps with his focus, clumsiness, and just attitude. We give it to him right before bed because it is time released and sometimes takes time to get in their system. Only issues we have experienced since we switched to the 3mg is tireness (expected) and bed wetting. Since he was potty trained we have never had any issues with accidents. But since we switched to the 3mg. He wets the bed every night! I believe he physically is so out of it he is unable to get up and go. This is so unforunate because we have had a good response on Intuniv. We've only tried one other med Staterra and that one was very scary for us. The only word of advice I have to other parents is to always go with your instincts. No one knows your child like you do and meds work very differently on every child. Also hang in there cause it does take trial and error...we are still in that process :(Read More Read Less

My 5 year old has severe behavior problems. She just started this med 2 days ago at 1/2 mg at night with a melontion. It hasn't helped her stay asleeep. She had extreme outbursts that resort me restraining her and she is violent. Her doc called me today and told me to start her on a full 1mg at night. Why give it to her at night if I need her calm during the day? Were going to see how she does with the 1 mg if that doesnt work she'll give her a long acting med.

After several weeks my 8 year old became suicidal and depressed. Melt downs that lasted a few minutes increased to over 30+ minutes. He became very disruptive and disrespectful. Have to wean him off the medication. Unfortunately, this did not work for him and because of his Crohn's Disease he cannot take anything else.

My son is 15 yrs old and he started using this medication recently. We both feel that it does an amazing job both physically and emotionally. I would recommend this medication to any child with ADD or ADHD.

My niece takes intuniv along with vyvanse and we have seen a total change in her. she is so much calmer and even says she doesnt feel angry or unable to control herself anymore that made all of us happy. It also helps her night terrors. when she misses a night of the medicine she has them terribly and we always try to make sure that she gets the meds because of that reason. To anyone who is considering this for their child i highly recommend it

Did not help with dd focus, distractibility and impulsivity. It did work on her hyperness and did allow her to form better friendships. It did not help her with the school work as her grades continued to go down and teachers emails to me increased. It also made her gain alot of weight. She was craving carbs all the time. When I took her off, her cravings went way down. She put on over 20 pounds while on this med.

My 8 yr old son has Down syndrome and ADHD. After trying everything, he's now on a combo of 3 mgs Intuniv and 5 mgs methylin solution, 3x/day. We give him the Intuniv around dinnertime b/c the drowsiness takes effect 10 hrs after taking so this helps him sleep a litle later; he awakes between 6-7 AM, as opposed to 4-5 AM. We also have a behaviorist come to the house once per week to help us family members create a personalized "toolbox" so that we can manage the behavior in all different settings including home & family time, shopping, restaurants, etc. With our "tools" we share with others who come in contact with him at school, babysitters, etc. so that there is consistency. We obtained the behaviorist via DDD and pay nothing for a most invaluable service! Read More Read Less

My 8 year old ADD/ADHD daughter just started taking this. We are on her second week. She started with the typical 1mg the first week & has moved up to 2mg. She is a sleepyhead! Our doctor warned us of this prior to starting, so I am adjusting her dosage time to late afternoon. She has had a huge appetite & we couldn't be happier. She only weighs 40 pounds. She has been on stimulants for several years now and she never slept or ate. We are on summer break right now, so I'm not too sure of her focus. She seems to be happy & has only had a few outbursts. We will stick with this for awhile & see where it takes her. Hopefully she will gain weight & have continued success.Read More Read Less

My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 5. Her Doctor prescribed one 1mg of intuniv 1td and 0.2 of clonidine at night to sleep with. The clonidine made her grey in color and almost like a zombie effect took place. So i stopped the clonidine and continued intuniv. I have found that most dr's prescribed intuniv with another adhd medication as intuniv for a "boost" i only give her one 1mg 2x's a day. One before school, and the other at bedtime. It does work well. But if you read the instructions for use it says to use no longer then 9 weeks. I have used it for about 6 mths and i can tell that its potency isnt as strong as it was in the beginning. Overall intuniv has the least side effects and os a great med for treating ADHD in children. I do recomend it for a child that is newly diagnosed and for parents to start them on something mild. If you were like me i did not want to put her on meds and thought the problem was my fault and it wasent even mine or hers. But i believe it is better to treat it know than to wait to late in there life to start medication therapy. Thanx you and gOd Bless you all for it can be a struggle sometimes in this situation. :)Read More Read Less

I was hoping for more help. I know that a pill won't fix me completely, but I don't feel that much different on it. It's been almost a year now. At first it really worked well. I took it in my first semester in college and I outlined my ENTIRE psychology book. I have a paper due next week that I haven't even touched because I'll get distracted so easily and forget that the paper exists until the next day or at midnight when I'm going to sleep. A horrible side effect that it gave me after the first couple months was the drowsiness. I take this medicine before I go to sleep, but during the day, I'll fall asleep and start dreaming without even realizing it!Read More Read Less

My eight year old son has combined type ADHD with opposition. We did not see any effect until we worked up to 3mg over a series of weeks. On this dosage, he is much less hyper and has better self-control. He also follows directions better and is less argumentative. The doctor may want to see what 4mg does. He is not exceedingly tired or sleepy on this medication, as I had feared.
