DO not listen to the other posters here who are most likely making stuff up trying to scare you. My sister is a physician and she went over all the side effects with me. The only real concern is a rash since Prolia does NOT go through the kidney or liver like all the other drugs. This is by FAR the SAFEST osteoporosis medicine. And its the easiest too. When looking at the side effects also look at...

Pain worse than I've ever had, skin aged and leathery, constipation and can't breathe. I'm in worse shape now than before I had prolia--will NOT take any more. Stomach and digestion problems all the time, can't sleep. 6 months of hell for me. Cholesterol went way up. RA got worse--Dr. said it would help it--a lie! Dr. treated me as a guinea pig--used a sample she had in office--did NOT charge...

I was put on Forteo for two years self injected. No problems with this treatment. Then we started treatment with Prolia. I had no problems in a 9 year treatment. The treatment is intended to keep your bones stable and these treatments held me to the same level as when I was first diagnosed. I had a foot fracture due to a fall. No other fractures My bones were so bad I was told at age 57 my bones were 15 years older than my real age. Year 10 it changed. I had a reaction to the Prolia. Keeping in mind we can react at any point in our lives to drugs that we never had any issues with. My reaction was rare. Long story short I met with an allergist and he said definitely a Prolia reaction. My symptoms was in the mouth and throat down.. I felt a scratchy throat within a couple hours after the injection which turned into blisters in the throat and down the esophagus. My tongue swelled but just to a fat felling. I had blisters in the throat and down the esophagus. my ENT use the tube and spent a lot of time thru the nasal and Dow. When she finished she said it was nothing she had ever seen. Blisters down to the glottis. Steroids were used, anti fungal meds for just maybe that’s the problem. I had a PET screening for a spot on my lung that was possibly cancer but also could be an infection. We waited 6 weeks had another CT and the spot was resolving. My primary and I were both suspicious that the spot was a blister. She had put me on a Zpak to help if it was an infection. I am pre diabetic and was doing light machine resistance and I ended up with a T-7 compression fracture and had a repair this week. My last injection was September of 2022. I still have issues with No one knows what I should do for treatment. So…today I would say take what you can tolerate. There seems to be a lot of negative information but I have no treatment at this point and I’m afraid I’m going to be crippled up bc of no treatments. If you have one fracture in your spine you will take anything after that to avoid fractures. The pain is incredibly intense and it took 6 weeks to get a repair. So just saying my reaction is not common and probably one of a first bc no ne has seen it before. The medication is to keep your bones where it is. You don’t want them getting worse with no treatment. Good luck to each of you that read this and ask for more information and understanding. It’s very painful to start having spine fractures and have weight restrictions of 8-10 pounds, try not to bend, try not to use your arms above your head reaching. When you can’t pick up your grandkids it breaks your heart. Read More Read Less

I had my first Prolia shot March 2022. It was following 2 years of Reclast which was not helping. My bone scan February 2022 results were -2.5 right hip, -2.4 left hip and -4.1 lumbar spine. After my second Prolia shot September 2022, I felt less pain in my back. A dexascan taken February 2023 results were -2.5 right hip, -2.2 left hip and -3.6 lumbar spine. I had my 3rd shot in March. Prolia has worked for me so far. I have 2 neighbors on Prolia and they have not had any adverse reactions.

after first injection my nose ran constantly but thought was allergy related. After second injection I lost control of bowels after I ate, it went right thru me with no control and problem is chronic now. 4 months b4 3rd injections I had a bad cough, ex-ray showed my lungs were scarred and read that Prolia can cause this. I was told it was quality of life now, it just gets worse. I have never been around asbestos in my life and usually happens to men in roofing business. I should have looked at reviews instead of listening to my MD. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG, IT IS DANGEROUSRead More Read Less

I understand the recommended location to give the Prolia injection is in the upper arm, upper thigh, or the stomach . Has anyone received the injection in the buttocks and is experiencing side affects?

I had my first Prolia injection in February last year due to becoming more osteoporotic. I had some episodes of stiff joints at times and dismissed it as something I had been doing. The day I had the second injection, that night In bed my shoulders felt like they were being crushed. The pain was so intense I was in tears. The next morning I was okay. Since then joints, bones or muscles have been affected. Every day it’s something different. It seems to build up during the day. I couldn’t walk on 2 occasions as I couldn’t weight bear on my foot; I couldn’t grip anything due to the thumb joint throbbing, I couldn’t raise an arm, etc etc. I could also feel quite lethargic on occasions. Every day it’s something different. I have always been very active. I had had enough. My GP has now prescribed another medication. Prolia may work for some but definitely not everyone. According to my doctor's medical assistant, I started this subcutaneous medication in December of 2020, every 6 months. My endocrinologist insisted it would keep my bones from deteriorating (although it wouldn't increase my bone mass). These past 2-1/2 years I was wondering why I'm always feeling exhausted and my IBS/Colitis is exacerbated. Without thinking, I just had another injection earlier this week and immediately following, I had an intestinal flare-up. My joints are also incredibly sore and I thought this is due to not exercising regularly since the pandemic (part of that might be true). My doctor, who I really like allot, dismissed my issues saying it's probably "something else" since I've had these issues for a few years. After reading all of the testimonials, I've decided to completely stop this medication, take Calcium and D3 and start my exercise regiment. It's just a matter of putting "two and two" together!Read More Read Less

I received the injection in July. Since then, my joints have hurt worse than ever. I had a spinal fusion in 2015 and now my back hurts as well as my knees, my thumb joints burn (never had this before), and my legs hurt so bad. I noticed spider veins I had before are painful now. All of this in six months time. I will NEVER take this again. I will just chance it with the osteoporosis!

I've only had 2 injections so we don't know if it is working except that I have always had unexplained hypercalcemia that I no longer have so it is pulling the calcium from my blood and hopefully depositing in my bones. I am here because I ahve seen NOTHING about freaky hair/nail side effects. The week after my injections, I have lost a lot more hair than usual. Since my hair is down to my waist, I know that for sure as it clogs the drain. But, that is followed by a ridiculous amount of growth. I had my roots done, I should add am nearly 100% gray so very noticeable, and my hair grew 2 inches in 7 weeks. My nails also grow like crazy but at the 10 week mark when the area growing from the base in the week after the injection, gets to the ends, they split and crack like crazy. This has been observed my my nail tech and colorist who know me well. Has anyone else had this experience? I am hoping to find a supplement that could help alleviate this. Read More Read Less

I took Femara for 10 years for breast cancer and went from osteopenia to osteoporosis during the 10 years after that. During that time my oncologist pushed these drugs on me for my osteoporosis and I resisted due to the side effects. They were discounted as being very rare. I have severe back problems that required an MRI which showed a possible small fracture. The spinal surgeon suggested going on these drugs - an injectable one since I have a lot of stomach problems. So I did and got Prolia. One of the worst mistakes of my life. Two days later I got jaw pain and now have constant eye twitching (it has been reported as a side effect) plus more joint pain - as if I need more with all the pain I have with my back problems. I have only had one injection but will not be getting another. I am keeping a notebook of my side effects with dates etc.as I see a class action lawsuit in the future with the drug. For those considering this drug - I would advise to avoid at all cost.Read More Read Less

My mother was prescribe Prolia she took a total of 4 shots. She got a terrible itchy rash which got worse with each injection. Steroid creams did nothing for rash. She did every allergy test, it was not an allergy. She lost 40% of her hair. It did ZERO for her bone density. When she stopped the Prolia rash went away in 6 months, her hair has grown back. But she is left with terrible pain and weakness in her legs, and now has problems with veins in legs, really monstrous issue and her veins were fine prior to Prolia. She needed dental work because of weakening of jaw. After being OFF Prolia for 2 years her bone density is UP significantly. Take MCHA type calcium (no other kind), Magnesium glycinate, D and Super K by Life Extension and NAC and collagen peptides. You must also do weight bearing exercise. She will not be taking any more Prolia. It is a repurposed cancer med. I will be complaining to FDA about unacceptable side effect profile. Not to mention it did ZERO for her bone mineral density. Do not take Prolia. Read More Read Less

My doctor suggested this drug, but after reading the reviews, I will not take it. The doctor said not to read the reviews as they are not indicative of the real side effects and the people who post might just be complainers. I disagree.......these are people who are just expressing what they went through and they have no reason to lie or exaggerate.

On my 3rd Prolia injection and have experienced only minor muscle pain and occasional headache. Everything has a side effect, Osteoporosis causes fractures, I will take my chances with Prolia it has been shown to improve bone density.

I have been on this for 2 years and wish I never started. I am in more pain than ever. I have had 2 strokes while on this. I was not told about the problems to look for. Doctors make it sound wonderful. This medicine should never be taken. I fainted and went to emergency. All tests showed nothing. Just take your calcium and D3. It's safer and stay way far away from prolia. Should never be on the market.

I have osteopenia and should not have been put on this medication. It hasn’t changed my numbers much. My side effects are stomach and constipation, but I don’t know for sure. My biggest complaint is the problem with getting off it. If you don’t take some other biphosphonate most people will experience rapid bone loss for the next two years, such that one returns to pre baseline levels. Why take a drug that increases bone density only to end up losing more bone than you Started with! And there are serious side effects! I’m sorry for all the terrible things you are all going through! Please be sure to go on a different biphosphonate, if you can, when getting off prolia to avoid the rebound effect (bone loss and vertebral fractures)Read More Read Less

This month, I am supposed to get my 4th shot. About two month before every shot, I experience unusual soft tissue inflammation. First my gums, this time it’s my feet. Unexplained pain and swelling, quite debilitating. Also very stiff back after sitting, back pain and in particular right side pelvic and hip pain. Will get off this medication, even though I may have bone loss. Hopefully a transition with Reclast injection will help.

I was told to take prolia for my due to osteoporosis. I have a long history of being allergic to medicine and foods which my doctors know. I was all set to take this drug . I did read these reviews. Thank you Thank you. You have saved me from a terrible fate. I have a dear friend who took it and is suffering. This drug is not good for 75 percent of people who take it!!!!! Come on FDA do the right thing and take it off the market.
