I am sending an update from my review on 10/24/11. I previously posted that his drug caused me headaches, severe cramps, and continuous bleeding while taking it. I failed to add that I had immense hair loss over the 3 months I took Amethia. I went to a dermatologist last week regarding my hair loss. Now I didn't include this in the last post because I didn't associate it with the drug at that ti...

Got Amethia as birth control - didn't really care what type of pill it was, this was just what my gyn recommended. Took it for 2 months, then quit. At first, it was great. I didn't really have a problem remembering to take it every day, only forgot a few times but remembered hours later. For the first 4 weeks it didn't seem bad at all - only complaint would have been some pretty annoying spotting ...

Nine weeks ago my pharmacy switched my prescription from Camrese to this Amethia and it has been nothing but problems. I have been annoyingly spotting for the last seven weeks on and off. Horrible cramping, double over in pain from it and the nausea and vomiting is even worse. I never had any of these problems while on Camrese. I knew it wasn't right to switch my birth control like that and I will either be switching to a new one all together or ask to be put back on Camrese. A period for seven is ridiculous and I have been on either Seasonigue/ Camrese since March 2011. Very dissatisfied with this drug. I'm honestly worried that if I was able to have sex with my boyfriend that it wouldn't work. But I guess I have nothing to worry about since I've had my period for the last seven weeks.Read More Read Less

After being on another oral contraceptive for 6 months prior that gave me two periods a month, I was hopeful that this pill would be the right fit for my body. The first month of use was a dream - absolutely no acne, no weight gain, and most importantly, no baby. However, as soon as I got to the second set of pills I began bleeding. I have been bleeding and cramping for 22 days straight, and my mood has been getting increasingly worse. On top of that, I have the worst acne I have ever had and am finding it hard to workout, which is something I have done daily for 3 years. I called my doctor and am getting a new type of birth control, would definitely not recommend this pill. Read More Read Less

I've dealt with periods lasting 10-14 days for two years. After complaining to my Dr., he put me on Amethia. I gave it 6 months to work. I bled every day of that six months. I have horrible clotting and the worst cramps I've ever experienced since taking it. I finally stopped taking it. I do not recommend this medicine at all.

I have taken this birth control for a year now and I have experienced nothing but horrible side effects including water retention, bloating, acne, spotting for two months after having been on it for 4 months. It's just been horrible. Also another downside is that not having a period for 3 months may be a relief to some people, but it just leaves me very uncomfortable. It did it's job in the fact that I didn't get pregnant, but the side effects have been too much for me to handle. Thankfully I have just switched over to a new BC.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Seasonique (camrese) but a new doctor changed my prescription to Amethia. The worst birth control pill ever. I have been bleeding/spotting the whole time. I have experienced more cramping on the pill than off of it. Plus, migraines that are unbearable. I will never take this garbage pill again. They need to remove it from the market. I am 21 and needed to use this birth control for ovarian cysts. I had never had any pain with them till I took this birth control. In the first month I had the worst pelvic pain so I stopped taking it and the period that followed was the most painful one with lots of endometrial tissue in big chunks. But the birth control wasn't all bad. It didn't make me feel moody or give me a headache like others I have taken.

I'm 20, and have only been taking Amethia for two and a half months. I haven't had a change in mood and my sex drive has increased. Spotting has been annoying, but beyond that it does the job of keeping me from getting pregnant.

I have been on Amethia for 3 months, and I have had brown spotting for pretty much the entire time. I was moody at first but this went away, and I've had other minor things. It hasn't ben bad, but the side-effects have been slightly bothersome.

This medication is HORRIBLE. I have been using this pill for about 5 months now, and I have experienced nothing but bad side effects. The breakouts are the most noticeable. I have never had such bad acne in my entire life. My skin has also become super oily--something I have never had a problem with before. The cramping and the spotting are the second worst. It never ends. I would not recommend this pill to anyone.

I started using Amethia in November. My doctor didn't want me to have a period for 3 months after I had 2 surgeries in October and November. I needed the surgeries to remove multiple fibroids that were in the uterus on the endometrium line. This caused VERY heavy bleeding with extremely large clots. It was very painful. My period since August 2014 would last for 2 weeks and the only way to stop it was to go to the ER and be admitted. It caused me to have 3 blood transfusions since and made me anemic. Having said that, Amethia stopped my period and has allowed me to have 3 period free months. I'm very happy that it has stopped but there are some side effects that started in the second month. I have noticed that my hair was thinning out a lot, my face broke out really bad and my mood swings were unpleasant...for everybody. When I relaized it was the birth control I mellowed out and am now able to control my moods better. There was also brown discharge...not so sure if it's left over blood or not. I would bleed a little after I tried to have sex. i kinda stopped having sex after that so that there wouldn't be anymore breakout bleeding. By the middle of the 3rd month the side effects started to subside. Also, the spotting ( with no sex) was once a day for the first month until I decided to workout. The spotting stopped after 7 days of yoga and ab exercises. To make sure that it was the workout that was helping I stopped working out and after 3-4 days the spotting continued. Started working out again and after a few days it stopped again. But now since I'm only 1 week away from having my period the spotting has come back and it's kinda heavy, 2 times a day, and I have cramps but I'm ok. I have yet to see how this period is going to be. Hopefully it's not out of control and goes away once I start the new pack. I will make an update to let you all know what happens. I hope this review helps someone and wish everyone the best.Read More Read Less

My drug plan replaced Camrese Lo with Amethia. The first month seemed typical. However, the second month has been horrible. 4 1/2 weeks of bleeding has not been the least bit amusing. I have never had trouble at any other time in my entire life- and I'm 46! Migraines have returned with Amethia as well. Lesson learned- from now on I will do my own research when my pharmacy changes my prescription. Amethia, I am NOT IMPRESSED and I will aggressively find a way to get my health back!

I was prescribed Seasonique, and my insurance pushed Amethia. I've been bleeding to death, with clots and unbearabel cramping for over a two weeks, and they are insisting for me to stay in generic! Aetna is a bunch of crooks. I pay extra to have the right to use brand Names, and they are refusing me.

I thought I was a crazy person! I'm so glad I thought to look up reviews on this pill. This pill has made me irritated, angry, paranoid, anxious, bitchy... which I am totally not (most of the time). I have been taking the pills for four months. I started spotting for two weeks, then when I had my period week it was the heaviest period I have EVER had. So many blood clots and they were huge. Do not take this medication if you have these symptoms. It has ruined my relationship.

I was originally on Watson for 2 years which gave me periods every month which really wasn't a big deal but I had gotten on BC because of my LONG (10 days) periods and so heavy to the point that I would have clotting and would have to change out the heavy pads about every hour so this BC was suppose to help which it did until my body got used to it and my doctor was worried that I was losing too much blood for my health so I switched to Amethia which has honestly helped with every one of my period problems! Though I did notice some mood swings and periodically I will randomly cry or be mad for no reason. Another negative is my sex drive went down tremendously.. I used to be the one who would always want it now I have to force myself to want to have sex sometimes which honestly sucks. I would still recommend this BC for anyone with the same period issues though cuz now when I do get my periods they are shorter (4 days) and not nearly as heavy. Read More Read Less

switched to this from orthro to help with heavy periods, was nice not to have a period for 3 months but boy the 3rd month I paid for it horrible cramps and breakthrough bleeding even though I have been on them 18 months. called and switched back to orthro . this pill took my sex drive to 0 ... I had the don't touch me don't look at me feeling.. made me very very witchy , hubby noticed, coworkers, family everyone and it all dated back to when I started these, went off them and I am starting to feel normal again . may not do this to everyone but it made me nuts I have anxiety and this pill made it 100x worse. I would rather have my monthly heavy periods back than feel like I have on this pill. actually the last 2 rounds ( 6mo) it stopped my period completely during the period times then it would break thru in the middle of the pack...Read More Read Less

I started taking this pill about 7-8 weeks ago. No headaches, breakouts or mood swings and no real weight gain. Switched from Seasonique to save money and because I was having weird spotting with it. My breasts have been sore, firm and enlarged (almost like I was pregnant), but it seems to come and go somewhat. I'm still probably at least and and a half cup sizes larger than I was earlier this year before I started Seasonique. My nipples are also changing. A couple of weeks ago I started having the same kind of milky nipple discharge from both breasts. Sometimes it's just a few drops, sometimes it's like I'm lactating again, and sometimes there's hardly anything there. I haven't been pregnant or breastfeeding in over 3 years. I had a similar reaction to Seasonique too, but not as often and not as much. My doctor checked my prolactin levels again, and they're somewhat elevated which she says can happen with birth control. She doesn't sound concerned. She said I could switch to another pill again, but I'm pretty happy not have periods as often as I used to, and I'm not spotting (yet). Is anyone else having these kind of breast changes with Amethia or Seasonique?Read More Read Less

I have been on Amethia for almost 4 years now, switched from Tri-nessa which my body had gotten use to taking so it wasn't working anymore. Amethia has been amazing, no weight gain, no mood swings, and even help my Acne problem. I do not want to change BC so crossing my fingers that my body doesn't get use to the pill. Amethia will effect everyone in different ways, I know people that it did not work with or they just didn't like some of the side effects that they were having. So I am very statisfied with this product! Read More Read Less
