Used Chateal for 6 months. Became extremely depressed and moody. Crying a lot. Angry and screaming a lot. Would just stare off into space feeling broken hearted sometimes. Not enjoying things like I used to. Stopped taking it and felt like myself again within days. The depression and the fights almost broke up my boyfriend and I!!! When will there be birth control options for men!!?!?!?!??...

So, I was kinda iffy about taking birth control to begin with, but Planned Parenthood put me on this brand and within a month I was a different person. I was pissed off all the time, crying for no reason (literally no reason) and I didn't really have bad acne before, but a month and a half in my acne got really bad. there was one point on this pill where i was crying so hard and laughing at myself...

I've been on chateal for about 6 months. Overall, it hasn't been pleasant. The plus side is that I haven't gotten pregnant, my periods are shorter and lighter, and my cramps aren't as bad. However, I've had horrible mood swings (more so when I first started taking it), I find myself depressed and anxious frequently, and I've been getting horrible breakouts/rashes on random spots of my body. I'm planning on talking to my doctor and switching. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

I was on a previous birth control pill that would make me very hormonal. So I changed to Chateal. I've been on it for only 3 weeks and I already do not recommend it. I have itching and burning of the vagina during and after urination, I have a loss of appetite and the need to drink fluids, I'm 18 years old and i don't have the want or need to have sex anymore, and my acne has worsened. I don't know what else to turn to. I don't know what other birth control pill to turn to..

I received a supply of this pill from Planned Parenthood this past November and began taking it after my next period. I had no problems at all the first time around, but ended up traveling to Alaska and staying there for a few months, leaving my supply of birth control pills behind. Anyway, I was off it for a few months but was looking forward to going back on it because I don't like condoms and all that. So, after getting home and my next period starting, I began taking the pill again. I took it for a total of two weeks the second time around and it turned my life into a living hell. I had never in my life experienced anxiety so bad. Every thing was making me cry and I was yelling at my boyfriend about extremely trivial matters. I had an awful panic attack during those two weeks and just overall couldn't stop feeling sad, which is very unusual for me because I have a pretty awesome life and am doing a lot of exciting things and really don't have a lot to be sad about. Anyway, I stopped taking it a couple of days ago and already I feel that my mood has lifted back to normal. I don't really understand why this drug effected me so differently the second time I took it, but it's definitely not an experience I'd like to repeat.Read More Read Less

I am pleased that this drug is easy to use and has been effective for me however my moods are absolutely wild. I have major highs and major lows. I am constantly irritated at everyone for no reason at all and I frequently cry. I am thinking about switching to something that won't effect my moods so much as I feel I am becoming a pain to be around.

I had to switch from orthotricyclen to chateal. My first month has been totally normal. I feel no difference, and I haven't had any horrific effects like others who reviewed.

I was on triorthocyclen for about three years. Since I'll be traveling for a few months, I decided I want not to have my periods during those months. Started chateal two and a half weeks ago, and after have read all the reviews, I was terrified and told my husband that I will probable turn into a crying moody monster. So here I am about to start my second pack. My mood has been my usual, maybe even slightly lifted. I've been bleeding for almost the whole two and a half weeks though, but that's normal, when switching birth control. However, first 3-4 months taking triorthocyclen were absolutely miserable because of depression and mood swings.Read More Read Less

I've been on this for a week and a half and I hate everything about it. I can't stop crying, I'm severely irritable, my acne is worse than it has ever been. I switched from Tri-Previfem because my periods were irregular, but I'd rather deal with that than this. I'm switching ASAP.

Maybe I'll try the female condom. I am 33 years old, 5'9" 141lbs., exercise daily, vegan, & American female.Read More Read Less

ive been on Chateal for about 9 and a half months now, and i havent expirenced anything terrible. I got on it to help with my cramps, but mostly because i didnt want to get pregnant. Ive never expirenced breakthrough bleeding, my periods have become a lot less painful and i bleed a lot less, one thing i didnt like was the dischage i noticed, like other people said, it doesnt happen all the time, only sometimes. Th biggest problem i have with it is it makes my face break out SO bad, i started using strong face wash and it controls it, but when i finished with my sugar pills, my face tends to break out. Other than that i havent had any majoy problems, and i never use protection with my boyfriend and im not pregnant (: id recommend it!Read More Read Less

This birth control works as a method for controlling pregnancy, but it effects my moods entirely too much. I have such low lows that it's hard to stop crying at points. I wouldn't recommend this, it's scary that THIS is what gets handed out for free at my Planned Parenthood.

I'm a 22 year old mother off two. Since starting Chateal 3 months ago, I've had many ups and downs. I originally started to get rid of an ovarian cyst. The first month I bled for nearly 4 weeks, and immediately noticed moodiness. But I figured I'd wait it out like most doctors suggest, to see if the side effects eased. I've had somewhat regular periods, that last at least 7 days, sometimes longer and cramps are just as bad as before medication. I'm literally crying every day about nothing, I feel like I'm in a constant state of PMS. My sex drive is practically non-existent now and even though I haven't noticed any significant weight gain, I have one boob that is growing larger than the other. I'm probably going to quit taking it and just hope the cyst doesn't return.Read More Read Less

I am not sure of the effectiveness of this drug in concert with pregnancy, however I have been using it for 11 days and I have become very moody, my face filled up with acne, and I wanted to eat more than I should. I also stopped working out at the gym. This drug is not good and I do not recommend it to anyone. I will be taking myself off of it immediately.

I haven't had many problems with this drug and my periods only last 4 days or so which is nice, but I have also had weird discharge like the previous reviewer. It isn't constant but when it happens it's bothersome and uncomfortable. I am thinking about switching because of this. At first, I thought I might have an infection but I tried yeast infection medication thinking it was that and it didn't change much. I then went to the doctor and she gave me antibiotics just it case it was bacterial but that didn't really make a difference either. I then read it could be caused by my birth control and it didn't start until I switched from the implanon arm implant to the oral contraceptive. I hope switching contraceptives could help this problem.Read More Read Less

As per the previous review my hair has been shedding ridiculously bad. I have also been super emotional.. I was sent this instead of my normal Portia. I know they say they have the same hormones but I feel very different on this.

I personally had terrible side effects using this product more so than a different brand I was on. My mood swings were terrible and interfering with my daily activities, making me cry over small things at work. Sex became painful and I had odorous white discharge that went away when I discontinued use.

This medication did not work well for me. I had a ton of break through bleeding even after being on it for 9 weeks.
