Switched from MTX to arava...saved me from significant hair loss. One week of nausea then no adverse side effects. Great option but must monitor liver enzymes just like with MTX

After only 8 days on this med I developed severe itching, mostly upper body, scalp and face. I also had dizziness and a few times experienced a few quick times where I felt my brain was disconnected and I had no idea what I was doing...very frightening. Slight nausea, some sharp pains in the right back and front like kidney pain, and chills. So far I have had no luck with RA meds. The best so far was with Prednisone, but that gave me severe heartburn. I hope something can be found without all the side effects. Read More Read Less

Adverse reaction to MTX so I have been taking 10 mg/day of Leflunomide for 12 weeks, plus 10mg Prednisone. Daily loose stools, hair loss, rapid heart beat and chest pain, buttock and hamstring muscle pain. I'm still experiencing severe RA joint swelling and pain. Going to ask RA doctor to change meds.

I cannot give an honest opinion of this medication because several changes in medications were made at the same time.

GI upset the next day after taking a dose - go to the loo at least 5x day. First few doses gave me extreme fatigue, bloating and wind. I ran out of antihistamines and after four days have been very itchy in personal areas (thought I had thrush - not so)and scalp are the main areas. Also have developed tingling in my feet over the last couple of weeks. Had to start leflunomide 10mg 3xweek in March 2014 because after 14 years my kidneys can't tolerate 25mg methotrexate per week. I don't qualify for the biologics and have failed plaquenil and salazopyrin and refuse to take prednisolone or prednisone.Read More Read Less

I felt fantastic on this drug. No aches or pains. Side effects were major hair loss and tingling and numbness in one hand.

Developed itching all over my body, which still occurs occasionally. I've stopped the medication almost 3 months ago. Based on my experience I wouldn't recommend this medication.

I have been taking 10mg oral for a month now. I have experienced side effects such as lesions in my mouth. I found that swishing a 50/50 mixture of maalox and cherry flavor children's benydril immediately took care of the problem. Vitamin "E" took care of some other lesions! You really have to watch for side effects with this stuff, but it has helped me with psoriatic arthritis. Too bad it takes out your immune system!

Starting treatment for psoriatic arthritis. After 2 days, flare of pain and neuro symptoms of arthritis of spine. Unknown if leflunomide is cause, but condition was stable for last couple of years. At this point I have taken it for less then 2 weeks and cannot say whether I have had any positive results or anything negative other then flare of suspect spondyloarthritis symptoms.

I started taking Leflunomide after 18 months on a combination Methotrexate/Plaquenil treatment that was working well on my arthritis but was causing 2 day fatigue and brain fog every week. I stopped the Mtx and kept the Plaquenil, and began Leflunomide. For the first few days had mild headaches, but they subsided after five days. I felt fine until about day 12 when I started to feel very itchy. My skin, my scalp, and I noticed, "hey, my hair looks weird." It kept kind of sticking up wispy in the front, Pete Campbell season-six style. And my pony tail holders were sliding out. And I was just so ITCHY. My stomach looked like it had small pinprick bites on my waistline. So my Rheumatologist asked me to stop taking it, and I'm going to go back to Methotrexate, at a lower dose, to see if that works, with less fatigue. I have been off Leflunomide for 9 days and the itching stopped after 2 days of not taking it.Read More Read Less

I take this drug for RA and have taken it for about a year. It has helped for some of my symptoms but my hands are still in a lot of pain every day and I have experienced a lot of hair loss which is very frustrating. I have asked my RA Doc. for something to help with the pain in my thumbs, it is making even this typing painful and using my phone and my work. She doesn't seem to want to help me with this, I have asked for cortisone shots and she doesn't want to do them in my thumbs. I also have torn tendons in both of my shoulders and have been waiting for 2 months already to get an appointment with a surgeon. still waiting!! I think it sucks that everything has to be so dragged out. Read More Read Less

Have been on this drug for 8 months. After several consultations with my Doctors it was decided to stop this medication since I was continuing with pain and stiffness and was prescribed 7 other drugs as well.....time to come off a few medications.
