Provigil has been WONDERFUL. For the past seven years I have been fighting to find out what is wrong with me. All I wanted to do was sleep, I felt awful. The first doctor called it depression and I tried three different SRIs before taking prozac for 4 years. About 1-1/2 years ago I decided to wean off the prozac. I felt I was missing my life. I wasn't the me I missed. I found another doctor,...

After reading some of the comments I see that cost has been an issue for several people. You can now get the generic version (modafinil). This is new -- my pharmacy had to order it for me. I just had my first dose. With my insurance it cost me $10. I just started Provigil today so I will update you later on the effectiveness but so far the comments I read were very positive. Thanks!

It seems to work better than other stimulant medication that I've taken for ADD, with less side effects (less wired, less headaches).

Ok I have pretty bad narcolepsy I actually would like to take provigil over nuvigil as nuvigil was worse like taking a multivitamin provigil alone will not keep me awake It doesn't help me at all. This medication works good the way I was given it which is 200mg in the am with 40mg of adderall then at noon 20mg more adderall then right before bed I'd take another 200mg provigil that'd get me through the day but I still had severe trouble waking up I sleep most my days away which has made me extremely depressed I close my eyes amd I'm in rem sleep because I'm dreaming then I come to so fast reality is becoming mixed up for meRead More Read Less

My doctor prescribed one 200 mg tablet per day for mild sleep apnea for which using a C-PAP didn't seem to help. I find that I only take 1/2 a tablet every few days, whenever I am facing a day when I need to be alert and energetic. Sometimes I do not take any at all for two or three weeks. This has not been addictive at all and certainly makes my day more productive. I will soon be seeing a new doctor, and I doubt she will allow me a refill, as there is not a dire need for it. But meanwhile I love having the option of taking a half pill on certain days.Read More Read Less

I had chronic fatigue after a Lyme-type disease, then stopped walking, got depressed, gained weight, and got breast cancer. Treated with two surgeries and had radiation-related fatigue. I am a nurse who had experience with cancer patients who took Provigil, and asked to try it. My M.D. prescribed it three years ago. I found it to be the best thing for me. I had tried various antidepressants but got many side effects. Unlike antidepressants,Provigil/Modafinal can be taken as needed, and works immediately, so I have tapered off of the daily dose (it does stop working after a while,) and use 50 mg. two or three times a week, or as needed. If I overdo it I get heart palpitations and headaches. What a miracle, I have my health back. I don't feel anxious that I'll get depressed because I can't make it through the day. I walk and eat well. My insurance didn't cover it til after I had radiation. This is a good drug for me, and my doctor agrees. I am careful not to overuse it! Read More Read Less

I have a cancerous brain tumor and I had a stroke during surgery resulting in extreme fatigue. Provigil has been an extreme help to get me through the day...now that I am on medicare part D will not pay for it...appeal appeal appeal! I have been using it for 4 years and it works for me. Now because its not FDA approved for my condition, medicare doesn't won't pay for it. Let them try work through the extreme fatigue I have and try to recover from brain surgery and a servere stroke too.

Had classic Fibro doz+ yrs. Fatigue is an insidious symptom because it keeps u bedridden, w/o movement or exercise so the condition worsens leading to depression & self criticism from not being able to make a contribution: household, care for my children or even my grooming. A complete waste of a life & others' lives who are affected by me. Fatigue so bad I fell asleep at stop signs!! Not safe to drive to appts! Dr suggested Provigil; Years used only for special situations. However, when I'm really able to move about & "work", sleep becomes no problem, asleep as early as 7pm! Anyway, so long as I took Provigil, I could keep my obligations & "have a life." On weekends, I wouldn't take it to rest my body & kidneys. Not only is the advantage that I can contribute & be more of a real person -not a needy invalid, the ability to just move about improves the conditions of my afflictions (Fibro, serious cervical & lumber disk probs), & abates any notion of depression. Interaction with people improves mood- both yours & theirs! Then, I came home for 2 weeks but didn't take Provigil. I easily slept 20 hours a day again! Ridiculous. I'd returned on Provigil for the 200+ mile drive rearing to go. By the 2nd day off I was winding down, sleeping, in more pain, etc. I was back to living in my bedroom, with others cooking for me, not showering & so on. Also ridiculous. I'm not eager to add another drug to my routine since I take so many from thyroid replacement to pain relievers. I try to balance the impact of muscle relaxers & pain meds or I'm out, but can do more w/Provigil. With it, I have ability to engage in life. But, even when I completely gave up vicodin & muscle relaxer for a few months a year ago, the fatigue remained the same! Provigil is my hope to not waste my life & other's. I do have side effects. I get very CNS stimulated: diarrhea of the mouth, renewed type-A activity level, & red facial blushing or rash, heart races sometimes. I take only 1/2-3/4 pill/day.Read More Read Less

I've been prescribed Provigil for about 5 months for idiopathic hypersomnia (essentially I'm excessively sleepy throughout the day even with a solid 8 hours of sleep and healthy diet). My doctor and I experimented with doses until 200mg in the AM and 100mg in the early PM worked best. It's worked great for me and ensures that I am productive throughout the entire day and doesn't let me get sleepy.

before I slept all the time. Provigil keeps me awake, too awake! I can not fall asleep and then I just want to take more so I can function. After awhile I cannot focus at all. once I start I can not stop!

I was having trouble staying awake during the day including such times as driving to and from work, and meetings during the day. Once diagnosed with Excessive daytime sleepiness due to OSA, I was prescibed this medication. WOW! What a difference. I went from always feeling sleepy and falling asleep at inappropriate times to sailing through the day with no issues. I get more done at work and at home and do not fear driving and falling asleep. I do not have any issues with sleeping at night as long as I take the medication very early in the day; usually before 7:00 a.m. The only side effect I can contribute to this medication is possibly a little constipation, but nothing awful.Read More Read Less

I have some physical conditions that contribute to my sleepiness but I'm pretty sure the hydrocodone I take for my severe spinal pain exacerbates the sleepiness and what feels like I'm in a stupor. I was always very active and that changed dramatically but I have to have some pain relief. Provigil has helped greatly and I took it for a couple years before my insurance company decided they would no longer cover it so I had to quit taking it due to how expensive it is. However, my wonderful Dr. kept trying to get it for me by applying for prior approval, etc. and last spring she discovered it is now made in generic form! I don't know if everyone is aware of this so want to repeat the IMPORTANT main reason I'm writing this review: It is now made in generic form. Hope this helps someone.Read More Read Less

I'm a classic Narcolepsy sufferer; having at one time or another, experienced everything recognized as associated with the condition. Provigil, has been for me, amazingly effective with only side effect being a mild hangover after 24 hrs. (only drawback) prohibitively, expensive.

I was so satisfied with this medication. I was finally happy to lead a normal life. However, The generic modonfil has been approved to replace provigal. I have not felt this miserable in 5 years. It has no effect and is causing major depression in my life from being so tired. If anyone has had this same effect please post.

Initially provigil provided me relief from feeling tired and sleepy. Over 2 or 3 months, I became confused and had feelings of not being able to think right. I also became nervous and agitated. I was taking a small amount of the drug, 25mg 4 times a day. I quit taking it.
