Provigil has been WONDERFUL. For the past seven years I have been fighting to find out what is wrong with me. All I wanted to do was sleep, I felt awful. The first doctor called it depression and I tried three different SRIs before taking prozac for 4 years. About 1-1/2 years ago I decided to wean off the prozac. I felt I was missing my life. I wasn't the me I missed. I found another doctor,...

I was taking this RX for fatigue resulting from Multiple Sclerosis. My insurance company is now declining appeals by my neurologist to prescribe this medicine because the FDA does not show that it benefits people with my disease. I have been benefiting from taking this RX for 4 years and am now being told there is no benefit by the FDA and my insurance company. When initially prescribed this RX MS was a 'condition' for this RX. I don't think the decision making 'bodies' at the FDA take into consideration those that live with chronic fatigue understand that we have no advocate nor resource when they make these decisions that change peoples lives. What about quality of life for the member / patient? Why do 'they' get that power. The FDA does not publish the ethics of why they change or update their PDRs; where is the administration of drug use without that on behalf of the member / patient. Read More Read Less

I started taking this for excessive tiredness during the day. I was constantly falling asleep in while driving etc. At first I had massive headaches about mid afternoon everyday but over time they went away. Now, I wouldn't trade this for anything. I am able to stay awake when needed but can still nap if I have time. I finally feel normal!

I have chronic fatigue, ADD, and depression so I thought this med would be perfect for me. All it did was make me dizzy. I fell asleep 1 hour after taking 200mg and had several more naps throughout the day. Not at all what I was hoping for. It also made me a little irritable and unmotivated. I've never heard of anyone taking this med and falling asleep but there you have it. Besides the dizziness it was as if I took nothing at all.

My Pain Management Dr. starting giving me samples of this years ago..It really seemed to help. Then the samples were no more. I had State Medicaid at the time and they did cover it. This past January I was approved for Disability and started Medicare. After 2 months they decided not to pay for it. It costs $1200.00 for the generic. My Dr. put me on Addarall and I didn't like it..after only 2 weeks my insurance said they would pay for the Provigil for 3 months.. I am so glad. It really helps me not to nap all day.Read More Read Less

I have MS and Narcolepsy. Without Provigil, I couldn't function. I take 200 mg/1XD. Anymore than that speeds my heart rate up and my blood pressure rises. I am getting ready to start taking the generic (Modafinil), I hope it works the same with no additional side effects.

I have been living with MS for 5yrs and staying awake while driving is the only real symptom that is a problem. If I have to drive for more than 10 min I have major fitig, start nodding off. Driving is about the only time I am still/relaxed b/c I am VERY hipper. I have to drive 90 miles to get my infusion so Modafinil has been a life saver. I use to slap my leg or face just to stay awake on that drive. Now me and anyone else on the road with me are safe.

I am thankful for Provigil because were it not for it, I would be forced to take something in the amphetamine family which I do NOT wish to do!!! Provigil does not give you a "high". It makes you alert and oriented. I am taking it for severe Narcolepsy which is preventing me from reading, going on the computer, or doing anything sedentary. Also on long car trips, I will sometimes pass out and fall asleep when a passenger. With Prov igil (1-200 mgs a day), I am alert and normal like i used to be. This started happening when I was in my early 60's. I am 62. It is annoying and I wish that I did not have to take a drug every day to function but unless I take it, I am useless. For me, the side effects are slight nausea, jitters, teeth grinding (mild), and mild palpitations. When one wears off after about 4 hours, the narcolepsy sets in again and I have to take another. The only real problem I have with this drug is that it costs over $400 for 30 100 mgs caplets out of pocket. I had to go to a special pharm program to get it free but cannot do so anymore because they will not give it to you if you are on an HMO. Go figure. I am running out and don't know what to do. It's like a miracle! I can stay awake during the day, the only problem is if I take it too late.

Requested Provigil for MS fatigue. I am able to do much more, however I have had chest pains, rapid heart beat even with reducing caffeine and use of herbal teas. I wish I could continue use, but side-effects seem to outweigh benefits right now.

I was first prescribed this Rx because of my sleep apnea. It also helps me stay awake during my midnite shifts. Unlike my co-workers, I don't get all hyped up on energy drinks. 1 tablet of 100 mg Provigil (often accompanied by a big mug of iced tea, slowly sipped throughout the nite) usually does the job to keep me awake. 200 mg--too difficult to get to sleep after work. I've found that the Provigil helps me to wake up quicker, helps me to stay more alert, & keeps awake without the caffeine buzz & migraine of energy drinks. I rarely take Provigil on my days off & notice the difference--noticeably groggier & less alert. But unlike energy drinks, there's no "withdrawal headaches". I got one batch that smelled decidedly "moldy"; my insurance company refused to take them back as defective. They worked as well as the "normal smelling" Provigil, but tended to upset my stomach. I replaced them as quickly as I could. Other than the one "bad" batch of Provigil, I've found it a very agreeable, effective medicine.Read More Read Less
