I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 22. After trying a few drugs with hideous effects that worsened my condition, by doctor recommended this. I have used it now for 4 years and it has saved my life. This drug can be used to treat manic depression, though it is not widely prescribed for the condition. The drowsiness caused by this medication caused me to get into an accident. This drug should be banned.

I use this medicine everyday for my nocturnal seizures. I haven't had any major problems. One problem I had was dizziness. It also helped me sleep better too.

I've been taking 450mg of this medication twice/day for over 3 years and now my epilepsy is in remission. Have a few side efects though like hair loss and dry skin, but it is better to be seizure free.

I have MS and Moyamoya. About a year ago I started to get wired seizures. I never convulsed or fainted, but I would freeze in my tracks ( could not move) while remaking totally conscious. And aware and could hear everyone but I could not communicate! So my Neurologist prescribed this med. shortly thereafter no more seizes! I don't recall any side affects, but I am on a host of other medications as well. Overall, I am thrilled to have found this drug! ,

I've only taken for a week but my pharmacist says I can no longer take my lexapro for depression. The oxcarbazepine is used for pain' mood stabilizer, & depression also which is a plus. So far no side effects.

Watch out for hyponatremia. I have taken this medication for 6 years and have had trouble regulating my sodium levels. Its had me in the hospital with severe Hyponatremia now a total of 4 times, including two ambulance rides. Its not something they list for patients under side effects, only for doctors.

Like some of the other reviewers, if you take too much at one time you do feel loopy or dizzy. But that's just like any medication you take too much of. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was seven, had a partial temporal lobotomy at 14, went 11 years with no seizures and out of nowhere started having seizures again. I have been on Oxcarbazepine for about five years now and other than finding the right dosage, have had no problems. I have been on a lot of different medications from Tegretol to Dilantin. Since starting Oxcarbazepine this is the longest I have been on one medication and it has out performed any other medication. Read More Read Less

M doctor prescribed this medication to me for bipolor disorder. It takes some getting used to in the beginning of treatment. once your body adjusts to the drug my moods have never been more stabilized.

Used as an add on with Lyrica to control flares. The reverse of what one typically reads where Lyrica is the add on. For me Lyrica is primary. I add on a 3 week course of oxcarbazepine and it materially knocks back the flare.
