Bipolar - I took this med for one year with no blood testing. I started experiencing mixed symptoms and asked my doctor if my dosage might need to be adjusted. She then decided that my oxcarbazepine level should be checked along with my sodium. I was not even in the therapeutic range, so my dosage was increased. My sodium was only slightly low. A few weeks later my levels were checked again. ...

I took this medicine for 7 years for bipolar disorder. It made every mood intensify. It made drowsy like. i felt zombie like after taking it. I'm now off of it but found out that I was diagnosed incorrectly I have HORRIBLE anxiety problems not sure if its related but I have a horrible memory now. I'm so against medicine after being wrongfully diagnosed

I have been taking this medication for years and have suffered lo sodium episodes. Have had weight gain. Recently having swelling of hands and and feet. Inability to focus is not something I would attribute to this med, but after seeing the list I believe this is from the med. I should stop it as I am having more problems with it.

This medication was given to my daughter to help with her bipolar disorder. She was on 600 mg in am and 600 mg at pm She secretly stopped taking it for 6 days and then hung herself and died. Am very upset about this. And wish her phych dr. Had told us about this severe side effect.

After extreme weight gain on Depakote and extreme pschiatric problems on Topomas, I was put on Tryleptal. I did gain a little weight but the positive affects were more important. After fighting years with insurance I was put on the generic oxcarbazepine. I have nothing but trouble. Tremors, dizziness, more weight gain, hair loss, paranoia and anger. Even if I have to pay for 100% Trileptal, I will demand to go back on it.

I began taking Oxcarbazepine (generic Trileptal) four months ago in order to relieve anxiety, slow racing thoughts, and stabilize my mood throughout the day. I've experienced occasional night sweats (usually following a dosage increase). Overall the medicine has been a spectacular and has provided a degree of mental clarity I have never known before. Other potential benefits include decreased irritability and improved focus.

I take this med for a mood disorder. I am up to 600mg in the morning and 600mg at night. I like the way it helps. I can feel teh difference, but within about 20 minutes of taking it my lips tongue and throat feel tingly and almost numb. I feel as if i'm moving slower then the rest of the world and I get very sleepy. The sleepy is only a problem in the morning when I need to be doing things. It has helped slow my mind down in the evenings so I can fall asleep and I don't feel as all over the place as I used to.Read More Read Less

I've been diagnosed with bipolar disorder type 2 and been prescribed this medication. I'm 16 years old. At first, my psychologist started with a 150, then it went to 300mg, and made its way gradually to 1200mg. It seemed to be working at first, but now i barely feel the difference. It is too mild of a drug and i wouldn't recommend it for any bipolar patients.

My 8 year old has complex partial epilepsy after surgical resection of a brain tumor at the frontal lobe. Has received Keppra but was unable to control seizures and added to the management trileptal 15 days ago. I see my daughter starts with notable learning disabilities though she was the best student in her school.

My spouse was diagnosed with BPD in early 2012. Trileptal was prescribed, and it has been great. It took approx. 8 months to find the correct dosage, and we continuously tweaked the times of day until we found a good routine (with docs help). Overall, our family is happier, my wife is stable, and life is back to normal. I can't imagine life without Trileptal. As far as side effects, she had mild headaches and nausea during the first 2-3 weeks of taking Trileptal. Also, she experienced drowsiness for a month. Since, she has experienced mild drowsiness on the occasions that dosages were changed, and this drowsiness lasted only 1-2 days. Currently (and for the past 9 months), she takes 1050 mg a day: 300 mg at breakfast, 300 mg at lunch, 300 mg at dinner, and 150 mg at bedtime. Read More Read Less
