SO FAR, SO GREAT! VENOFER IS WORKING EXCELLENT! I CAN'T TAKE ORAL IRON. I TAKE 2 INFUSIONS TWICE A WEEK AS MY RED BLOOD ARE EXTREMELY!!! LOW. I HAVE NO ENERGYWHAT SO EVER, HAVE A TERRIBLE TIME BREATHING, SITTING DOWN IS OK, BUT WHEN I STAND UP I FEEL LIKE SOMEONE HAS PUT A BAG OVER MY HEAD. SO FAR I HAVE HAD 3 TREATMENTS AND THINGS SEEM TO BE IMPROVING. I AM SCHEDULED FOR 6 MORE!! I WOULD R...

I've had to receive Venofer IVs as a series of 3, as per my hematologist's prescription for iron deficiency which becomes anemia if left alone. First of all, anyone with iron deficiency shoudl know that they must insist that docs check ferritin levels, not just RBC/Hem, etc. Second, be prepared for your urine to look like cola. I don't know why this happens, no one has explained but it's standard ...

I've been receiving Venofer treatmebts for two years. The first time was last year where I received a syrnge worth of the drug 2-3 times a weeks over the course of 5 months. I had no iron stores when I began. The only side effect I experienced was nausea occurring 1-2 hours after treatment and decreased appetite. I was amazed at how much better I felt. This year my anemia symptoms returned - palpatations, chewing ice, heavy leaden feeling in limbs and muscular pain. I feel much beter usually by the 3rd or 4th treatment. I get sore and bruised at the IV injection site but the nausea abated after the 3rd treatment. I've never taken benedryl for side effects, just compezene(spelling?). To this date the cause of my lack of iron stores is undetermined. I had been anemic my whole life and only when I took Venofer last year was I ever NOT anemic. I never fully grasped how sick I was until I wasn't. Simple tasks like walking up a flight of stairs could make me faint. Now I run up them (but don't tell the doc!)Read More Read Less

Due to a malabsorption problem, I have been going to the hospital every 2 years, beginning in 2004. I have had anywhere from 4-10 treatments each time. Before Venofer was used, I did much better and felt better. Since Venofer has become the preferred drug, I have had numerous side effects, including having the "crash cart" team come in to save me. I am pretreated each time and generally spend the next few days recovering-until the next one. Overall, it has helped me, but I dread it when I start craving ice again because I know it's time. It also amazes me that so few general practitioners know very much about this process. I'm almost done for this time around. Yay!Read More Read Less

I have lost my taste and it has been approximately l0 days now. I am due for Venofer again 4-8 should I take it or talk with my physician. I understand this is a side effect of Venofer.

I'm in stage 3 CKD. So, my doctor put me on Venofer - which helped by takes a long time to administer. So I read about a drug called Feraheme (sp?) and my doctor was first hesitant, but decided to give it a try. After ONLY 2 treatments (yes - only 2 doctor visits - instead of 8-10) I was able to get my iron levels up and I feel better and don't have to go to the docotor as often. Would highly recommend that you talk to your doctor about it.

I felt great the day of the fusion. The next day is when I began to have abdominal cramps, leg cramps, vomiting, headache, and felt very tired. I was hospitalized and given benadryl to stop the reaction, zofram for vomiting and toradol for pain. I won't go through another treatment again!

I have been receiving Venofer for almost 3 years now and in the past year I receive it once per week which has worked out much better for me since it keeps my iron levels such that I can have a better quality of life. Getting a smaller dose rather than the 8-hr bag is very helpful. I still get fatigued but my hemoglobin level stays around 10. This has worked fine for me but my veins seem to be hiding these days so it is harder for them to infuse.

Venofer has been great for me. I have had no side effects. Don't like having an IV started every time but otherwise it is great!!! I had my stomach removed about 13 years ago due to bleeding and my body was not absorbing oral iron.

Well I had two treatments and both times I had an allergic reaction. My throat and tongue began to itch and then swell. I was treated with benadryl before both times and on the second treatment I also got a steroid before the venofer. My energy levels are up but I am unable to finish treatment because of the reaction. On the second treatment my bp shot up to 154/110 and I ended up in the er with breathing problems. Wish I could finish because it is helping.

My 1st treatment was in Aug.2008 and it was horrible, I had it bad with the side effects. I had vomiting, nausea, muscle ache all over, felt tired, sleepy, and swelling in my legs. The Doctor gave me benadryl with all my other treatments. So far I'm doing somewhat better, my body still hurt, I don't feel that energetic, I still have swelling in my leg, and I'm always tired. It takes about 1 1/2, your arm hurt for a week, if you get it with benadryl or solumedrol that will help with some of the side effects. I do recommend it because it does help, not as much as I would like, but it's enough to get me up and going ^;^Read More Read Less

I just had my 2nd treatment today. I have had zero side effects and actually have noticed more energy already. After being on oral iron medication for 1 year this has been easy.

I just started my treatments, the first of eight. I was scared to death because I had read some real horror stories on internet about it. But I came thru with flying colors, No sickness, maybe some mild soreness in my joints but nothing bad. The whole treatment took about 15 minutes. Like I said it was my first treatment so I dont feel any different than yesterday but it wasn't half as bad as some people said. But I did notice I'm not craving my crushed Ice I ate ALL the time. Dont know if it has anything to do with it or not.Read More Read Less

I'm going in for my second round of venofer treatment. The first time the only adverse effect it had was severe itching. There was no visible rash. This time I will be pre-medicated with solumedrol and possibly Benadryl. Looking forward to having more energy and just feeling better overall.

I was going into Kidney failure due to a greatly enlarged prostate. After beginning to use a catheter, the kidneys have begun to recover. In the mean time my nephrologist got the Venofer treatments (3 total, 1 week apart) approved. I had no noticeable side effects after the first treatment. It was done at a local hospital in the cancer clinic where all types of IV treatments are carried out. I ate breakfast, then reported to the hospital at 7:30 a.m.. I was done before noon, including a lunch served about 11 a.m.Read More Read Less

I have very low ferritin levels. I have to take a total of 4 treatments of Venofer. I took my first one two days ago. The side effects were horrible! They gave me Bendaryl in my IV and I started to feel better. I was about to faint. My chest was crushing in. Next time, I'll get Benadryl before the treatment and hope that helps. It's just strange how I felt fine during the whole treatment and got VERY sick after I started walking around.

I cannot take oral iron and have so far had two treatments with Venofer. The side effects were horrible the first time. Back pain, vomiting and nausea, drop in BP, extensive hives. But the send treatment was much better, since we were able to take care of the side effects. I find it more convenient and certainly less painful that getting iron IM. I have done my tests and will see my Hematologist next week. Hopefully I have improved. Hopefully I will only need a few more treatments.
