Have taken Vicodin for 7 years now. Have a badly damaged knee and constant pain. This works, but am now moving up to MS Contin. For those in pain don't worry about dependence you need it. I work 12 hour shifts at a Hospital and this is the only way I CAN work. It knocks the pain back where I can concentrate on what I'm doing and not be in agony or short tempered. Use it without fear for pain...

I am SHOCKED that there is no warning of possible addiction listed for this drug, and others like it. Hydrocodone is the most abused prescription drug in America today. Obviously this website has decided to ingore the truth about this drug, and print what the lawyers asked them to print.

No side effects after 2 years of use for nerve pain from a bad case of shingles. Have never had to increase dosage. When pain is not present I have no problem not taking the medication so it is not addictive for me. Without it I will be stuck with large doses of Tylenol or ibuprofen which definitely gives me problems. I am very concerned with the overwhelming concern for the "addicts" using Vicodin and the effect it is having on we seniors who use it safely and only as needed. Doctors in my area are reluctant to prescribe it even when it is the best and safest drug available. Patients are being referred instead to expensive Pain specialists for this drug because primary doctors are too often being harassed by the state and federal boards if they consider them to be writing too many scripts for pain meds. Good doctors know their patients and know what they need and if they can be trusted with a pain medication. Bureaucrats in the state houses do not. In the meantime the addicts will always find a way to get their drugs while we seniors will dig deep into our pockets to pay specialized doctors who should be treating critical spine patients, taking time to help us with relatively simple pain that may be,like mine, intermittent, and easily controlled by an educated patient with an ongoing relationship with her physician. This drug is a JOKE! It is a dose of Tylenol, which damages your liver, with 5 mg of hydrocodone which slows your digestion to create constipation. DOES NOTHING FOR PAIN! I LAUGH when I hear people are addicted to this drug. Addicted to Tylenol. WHAT A JOKE!

After an exam by a psychiatrist on why I hear music and car horns in my brain while taking vicodin for neuropathic pain, he said that many patients have suffered the music and horn symptom and it is due to vicodin. He told me to take less and to try to find another drug for pain.

Vicodin was a godsend for me, because it was the first med I had ever taken that proved effective in controlling my excruciating menstrual cramps to the point where I could actually function reasonably well each month during my period. (Since then, I have also found that Tramadol works almost, but not quite, as well, so that is my "backup" of choice.) The main hassle is simply trying to find a primary care doc/GYN willing to prescribe Vicodin for me consistently at the strong dosage I truly need each month. I guess so many people exaggerate pain symptoms in order to obtain/abuse Vicodin, doctors are terrified of potential liability issues if you end up getting hooked while on their watch.... but dammit, some of us are *not* drug abusers, we seriously do suffer as acutely as we claim, and throwing hormones at the problem, as so many GYNs insist on doing, often makes the problem a hundred times WORSE by extending the period to a nightmarish 2.5 to 4 WEEKS, and every bit as painful to boot! Anyway, hopefully I have found a solution, with my primary care doc agreeing to refer me to a pain management clinic where they say they will be happy to evaluate and monitor me if indeed I need to go the narcotic route in order to function for a quarter of my premenopausal life ahead. If they want to watch me like a hawk, fine.... I'm no abuser, just someone who hurts a lot, LOL. So, Viva la Vicodin!!Read More Read Less
