I did a lot of research online about Hyalgan & similar drugs, & decided on Hyalgan primarily due to the results expressed by women in my age group who received the most relief & suffered the fewest side effects (swelling, pain). In 3/2011 I started the 5 injection series for left knee pain from OA, after many rounds of steroid injections failed to provide long lasting results. It took a couple of...

I have severe bone on bone arthritis in my left knee and almost the same with my right knee but not as bad as the left. I therefor went ahead and did both knees when I heard about these injections. Its hard for me to read the satisfaction rate on here as I am in more severe pain now in both knees than I ever was before. I am in constant throbing pain and aches in both my knees and now throughout m...

After the first series of 3 shots, my knee did feel somewhat better. I seemed to have a wider mobility base then before the shots. After about a month, the feeling better quickly wore off. I have been receiving the shots on a bi-annual basis but the time of better feeling after the shots is about a week. After 5 sets, my doctor told me that it is time for a knee replacement.

Doctor told me that if the hyalgan did not work my only alternative was knee replacement. Received the series of 3 injections in May and I had no issues with pain from, during or after the injection. While I stll hear a lot of the noise from the knee (popping and grinding), there has been little pain and no swelling since then so this treatment has really made a huge difference. It is now September and I am starting to see some of the pain slowly start to return - but the treatment was only suppose to last 6 months so that's to be expected. Overall my experience with this medication has been excellent.Read More Read Less

The injections are very painful but fairly fast. After 1st shot I had no pain for 2 days. After 3rd, no pain, but a bit of rash & itchy at injection site. It's worth it.

After my 1st injection, my knee got so swollen and stiff, I couldn't bend it. It hurt, and I said never again. The next week, my Dr said to try 1 more. I really iced it down for hours and stayed off it. So far so good, 2 days later. I was told it was an allergic reaction, but I think it was also because I went shopping after and didn't ice it. I will continue unless the swelling and pain return.

I have gotten the 5 shot seried for at least 8 years. My insurer would only authorize again after 9 mos from last shot. So I usually get the round once a year. It doesn't make me an athlete but it certainly returns the quality of life I want to have. I am usually pain free unless I strenously exert.

After first injection, my leg felt heavy and I had to drag it, I had to walk on my toes with the right leg, and it wasn't injected. With the second injection, every weak spot in my body lit up like it was a neon sign. Ever since both knees have felt worse, I have noticed increased pain in my spine, and I have really low engery. I saw two other othropeadic doctors, they both agreed I've had a reaction to the drug. The administering physican tells me I wouldn't have that reaction. Also right after getting the second injection, my feet itched so bad I thought I was going to scratch them off. They would turn purple with scratching. I'm wondering what to do, and if it will ever leave my system or am I going to have to live with it now. The second injection was not given to me in the joint, but in the front of the knee, causing me to believe that maybe I had irritated the doctor with my questions. Also, by the time night came my left knee was swollen twice it's normal size and had three gold-ball size lumps on it.Read More Read Less

Recently completed my 2nd series of Hyagan-5 week/1 injection per week. Relief noticed after 4th injection. Will start another series in 6 months. I have found it to be atleast 90% effective. It is costly, even with insurance. So far, I am satisfied with the results.

To Nelsena who had side effects re lumbar pain - I didn't have that after 10 injections (1 in each knee). However, I've had a lot of leg pains - can't walk very long or stand. Have to lie down for while until it subsides. My last injections were 12/31/08 and I haven't gotten relief as far as my knees concerned either. Has anyone else had this weird reaction?

The first two injections were extremely painful as the fluid went into my knee joint but the pain stopped immediately when the needle came out. The third to fifth injections were tolerable. The knee pain lessened the first week and now, 2 months later is totally gone and function much improved. Definitely worth it!

After two knee surgeries, several therepy session and years of pain, my Dr. injected my knees with Hyalgan. I was shocked as to how much it helped. I am almost knee-pain free for up to six months. I have continued with these injections every six months over the past 3 years. It sure beats surgery.

Previously used only 3 injections, this time used 5. Much better results. Also tried others on the market with no relief. Hyalgan has worked best by far.

This treatment was administered one year ago with the prospect that it would last that long, and has given me relief up until now - almost exactly one year. It was easily administered, albeit sometimes painfully but the results were good. Now, if they could just get it to last longer.
