I am a postmenopausal woman who got BV for the first time. My doctor prescribed this gel for me to use for 5 nights before bed. It is very easy to insert and did not cause too much leaking when I wake in night time to go to bathroom, but one month later I got BV again. The second time my doctor prescribed this for me again, but it caused inflammation of my internal vaginal tissues, so she told me ...

Today will mark the 5th day that I have been taking the metro gel. I had cramps every night right before bed since day one of inserting the gel, however, the cramps were not that bad (probably a 4 out of 10). However, I hate the white wet tissue like discharge. I really hope I don't get a YI after I am done. Honesty I would rather take the pill instead of this gel crap!

Was very surprised when it didn't hurt to insert, did the job well and didn't leak out at all, even when standing (although I used t before bed and tried to stay laying down). Currently on day 4, symptoms for BV are gone, now just worried about a possible yeast infection after reading the reviews! Eating lots of yogurt in the meantime. Very happy with this product!

I'm on day 3 of this medication and came here for answers on the cottage cheese discharge and the cramping. I had some noticeable cramping today while at work and I wondered if it was the medication. Thanks to all the other reviewers now I know it is normal but, before using the medication I had horrible discharge and that has dissipated which I'm happy about and so has the odor. So it's going great for me! Even though I hate sticking stuff up my hoo-ha I'm glad I didn't get the pill version because I probably would've had way worse symptoms.Read More Read Less

I know when I have BV because of the foul smell when I urinate. As much as I try avoiding to go to gyn, the only thing that takes care of this problem for me is this medicine. It works by the second day, but I take the full five day course 1x/day so it stays at bay for a while. The cottage cheese discharge while using the medicine is normal and I also experience light cramping after tbe third day til I am done with the medicine.

I finally made an appointment after 6 months to see my gyn. My bf tells me i have a bad odor and its embarrassing, its been this way for months. Iam so relieved with this gel. Ive had no side effects it has such a smooth feel. Its my 4th day and I already see changes. it doesn't smell bad anymore and you can see your vagina pushing out the bacteria and working its magic. I recommend you to always use a pantyliner at least while being on the metro gel, no alcohol, and take a break from your bf for a week till you feel brand new again. My dr told me to prevent this from occurring again, you can't expose anything strongly scented to your vagina such as soaps, lotions and scented liners.TRUST your vagina to clean out itself, its not supposed to smell like flowers its supposed to smell like a vagina.Read More Read Less

Since having my son 4 years ago will say that I have gotten BV over a dozen times. It is the most awful odor ever. Also the discharge is heavy and annoying. I usually take the Antibiotics which is a 10 day treatment twice a day which is followed usually by a yeast infection. I was skeptical about using this gel because I have to insert the medicine using an applicator. I am not to fond of inserting things inside of my vagina (I don't use tampons). So I get in the shower and plant my foot on the side of the tub and insert very slowly the gel is so smooth it almost feels like nothing. From the first treatment I noticed a difference. I was instructed to do it once a day for 5 days. This is the 4th day and I may have enough left over just in case of another outbreak. Which is good because this medicine is rather expensive. I am extremely please, and prefer this the antibiotic pillRead More Read Less

I was suspicious of this at first since it looks like some kind of industrial silicone you'd use to caulk floor tiles, and since I had no symptoms leading me to believe that I had BV. My doctor prescribed two courses a day for five days, and the pharmacy was in shock and didn't believe her, so it took a few days to even get the meds. Once I started, I had headaches, but those quickly went away. On the second day I became very depressed, which is extremely unusual for me. On the third day I had cramps, and I did have dizziness on the last two days (days four and five), especially after working out, which made me very nervous. I'm in day five now, and have to say that I am definitely discharging a lot of stuff. If you've been the owner and operator of a vagina for some time, nothing that's coming out is going to scare you: I disagree with the reviews that it's "nasty." It's pretty run of the mill, it looks like cottage cheese: wear a pad! I'd advise any woman on this medication to do three things to make it easier on you: (1) dose yourself at exactly the same time each day (I had cramps when I got off schedule) (2) take good care of yourself: lots of rest, lots of water, lots of fresh vegetables and good, nutritious food. (3) Unless your boyfriend wants to just cuddle and cook for you, kick him out. You need a week without any interference so it can work its magic. And last of course: do not drink while on this medication. The warning on the package reads that you'll become "violently ill." The pharmacist and doctor both backed this up, so I took it seriously and don't plan to drink for three days after the last dose. All in all, it appears to be working. I'm a little weirded out that I had no idea that I had such an extreme case of BV, but glad that I'm seeing discharge, which means whatever was going on is clearing up.Read More Read Less

Ive had BV for many years now, a pretty bad case of it. Last year I took the pill form (Flagyl) and it didnt work for me very well. The BV was still there..so last week I had an appointment for my depo shot, so i decided to ask for an infection exam also. They said I still had BV of course. Also with a UTI. So she gave me the MetroGel Vaginal. I used it for 5 nights. I am VERY pleased with this medication, I now have no smell, discharge or discomfort. I also had no side effects. Highly recommend this product!Read More Read Less

I have an overgrowth of gardnerella so my dr prescribed this medication to use for 5 nights. The only side effect I had was diarrhea on day 4. However, this drug didn't do anything for me at all and we're not sure why.

I'm so glad I found these reviews. I can't say or not if this has cleared up my BV or not, but the side effects are horrible. I am getting severe stomach cramps (feels like someone punched me in the stomach), nausea, decreased appetite, mild dry mouth, some weird discharge, and fatigue. I thought this would only be side effects of the oral drug, but apparently after reading some reviews on here some others are getting similar side effects. I'm not on any other medications and the side effects didn't start until I started taking this drug. This is the last night I have to use the gel so I will see if the side effects go away as well as the bacterial infection...I will update. Read More Read Less

The 1st day I took this drug, I had cramps and diarrhea really bad. The 2nd day of taking this drug, I had the cottage cheese discharge and more diarrhea with severe migraines and moderate nausea. 3rd day of taking this drug, still more cottage cheese discharge with really bad gas and bloating, along with the severe migraines. 4th day of taking this drug, cottage cheese discharge continued, and really bad mood swings (My bf said I was acting like.. not myself.) 5th day taking it and my depression took over. It's now the 5th day since I stopped taking it, I have huge mood swings, that awful cottage cheese discharge still hasn't stopped and I have had some homicidal thoughts where I haven't had these in the past. I looked up the discharge (it smells like bread baking and my discharge never smelled like that and it's NOT normal past 3 days, even though in the comments it says it is). It might be a yeast infection since the "good" bacteria was killed off along with the bad. And it delayed my period (which was to start on the 26th of this month.) I WILL NOT recommend this drug for ANYONE. It sucks. It's messy and the side effects really aren't worth taking it.Read More Read Less

My Dr said I had BV and prescribed this drug for me. The first day that I used it, I had stomach cramps and what felt like a burning sensation against my cervix (from the list of symptoms, I guess that's normal.) The smell went away within 2 days. I've been having a cottage cheese like discharge from day 2. From the rest of the reviews, I guess that's normal. I wasn't aware I wasn't supposed to use perfume while using this drug, but had no interactions when I did. It's now day 5 and it still itches a little, but the other issues are gone. I could've done without the mess of the gel and the applicators, though. Overall it's effective, it's not hard to use and I'm very satisfied with the results.Read More Read Less

the medicine works well at controlling the smell, but it never completely goes away.the restrictions on all alcohol products is too much, cant even use hair spray or perfume.i felt some dizziness and cramps and some nausea sometimes, but no diarrhea.didnt get yeast infections yet.i would use clidnamycin, but i have trich and its the only medicine for it and i cant take the oral pills.

I am very dizzy, tired and listless. It is easy enough to use, but I feel horrible. I've used it before without these symptoms? Not sure what is different this time. I just have no energy - and brain fog. All I want to do is sleep. Four more days of this nightmare... but I can't even take flagyl. That makes me incredibly sick. I guess this is in the same family of drugs? Awful, awful.

Took this for bacterial infection/gardenella. I like this treatment way better than the pills. I am on day 4 out 5 and at the beginning of treatment had no side effects. But now being on day four I am now getting stomach cramps, diarrhea, and cottage cheese like discharge which I was told was normal. It is easy to use and much nicer than the pills. Even though the gel seems to be working great I'm glad I am done with it in one day cause stomach cramping plus diarrhea really sucks.

I've been on Metrogel for 4 day now for BV. It works great. I apply at night after my night, which is the best way to do it so there won't be too much of a mess down there. After the first night, the odor was gone. I've experienced no side effects at all which is a super plus. The only thing I could say is that I have been having big clumps of cottage cheese discharge, which really freaked me out at first but after reading all the other reviews I'm guessing it normal. Overall, totally effective. I'm satisfied! Read More Read Less

It knocked the bv out apparently, or almost, after five days. But as I take an immune suppressant drug, when I took that, the infection recurred. Took two more courses, skipping the immune suppressing drug for many weeks, but it still gradually recurred. Had raging yeast infection after a couple of days each time. The medication stings upon application though that gradually subsides.
