The only reason I gave this med a low ease of use score is the slow dosage build up. It takes a long time to reach the theraputic dose. I did so well on this med -- no side effects and felt so normal. After about 6 great months, I started thinking that I was just so ok ... and that the bi-polar stuff was all in my mind and a missdiagnosis by the doctor. I quite taking it ... was great for a ...

My Dr. started me on this med about 6 months ago, and slowly raised my dosage to 400mg per day all total. Then on my last visit he advised me that we needed to double that amount (new total of 800mg) I took the first round of 800mg, made it through that day fine (very tired) the next morning took the 2-200mg pills (1/2 of my 800mg) as instructed, in less that 45 minutes I could not focus on anything, then could not see where things were - and to make matters worse I could not walk at all - or even talk very well to try to explain to my fiance what was wrong. This lasted most of the day, I am told. The following day I called my Dr. and was advised to take it back down to a total of 375mg per day only! This was very scary and not much scares me. Beware of the higher dosages.Read More Read Less

I started to take this medication, by my Doctor's order. The first night I took it w/ a glass of water, after 20 minutes or so, I started to get sever stomach cramps. The next day I was very nauseated. The symptoms continued for , four nights and five days. I finally called my Dr. and they took me right off of it. It also took a good three days to get it out of my system. This is one very scary and painful, trial medications, that I have ever tried. Stay away from it.

I had one seizure in January 09 my doc put me on (lamictal}250mg started on the orange kit. I don't feel any thing different now than I did before I took the med's he said that I have to be on the med's for 2 years to make sure I don't have another seizure. I am not happy with that,I am on the med's for anti-seizure and it is very expensive I get the med's every three months at 800.00 every three months. The doc will not let me take the gernic becaus of the different in the med's. I talked to the pharmist and she said that there is a differents in active ingredianace and inactive and most people don't have any reaction. Read More Read Less

I take 300 mg of generic lamotrigine with 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL. I know a lot of people say that the generic isn't as good as the brand, but to be honest, it's been the other way around for me. Since I switched to the generic, I've felt better than I have in a very long time. The only thing I really dislike about the generic is how chalky it is and how difficult is it to break in half. Since I take 300 mg, I take one and a half tablets and it's very easy to break them unevenly. A pill divider helps though.Read More Read Less

Started with Lamictal kit (25mg, twice a day) building up to 100mg twice a day, which I have been on for nearly two weeks. For insurance reasons, I am taking the generic, Lamotrigine, and there are pros and cons. My overall manic behavior has decreased, which is the most important thing. Though, I do have problems with stomach cramps, nausea. I have been eating less as I don't feel well after eating. This is a side effect that I hope will subside over the next couple of weeks, as I understand it takes several weeks to feel the full benefit of the drug. I will be checking back in, as I appreciate all the comments others have had. Read More Read Less

I have recently been diagnosed as being bipolar and started taking the generic medication Lamotrigine. Upon taking the first dose, I immediatlely started feeling nautious and have had more headaches than I'm used to. Last night I went out with some friends, had maybe two whole drinks - and this morning I feel like I was hit by a ton of bricks. So, drinking while on this medication may not be a good idea. If the side effects of nausea and headaches persist, I will think about asking for the non-generic brand and see how that works. Read More Read Less

I concur that when using the brand named Lamictal it was very effective for mood swings and depression. I suffered no side effects. It worked very well. Started taking the generic version, lamotragine, in December 2008. I am suffering from dizziness and vertigo. It became acute in the beginning of February -- extremem vertigo (falling, vomiting) and horrible headaches. I have missed so much work that I am now on STD until it gets under control. After multiple (expensive) tests I am now seeing a (??? balance PT) to retrain my brain. It didn't even occur to me (or any of the doctors) that this drug may be the cause until I went for my pre-scheduled follow-up appointment with my psychiatrist who subscribed the drug. the Dr. is now titrating me off the drug within the next 10 days. I am bummed because Lamictal worked so well (after suffering for over 20 years) and I am told it could take me up to three months to re-train my brain to regain my balance and stop this vertigo!! Been on Lamictal for 2 years with great success in controlling my mood swings. However, for my last refill, I was given this generic, Lamotrigine. Immediately, my mood swings came back. I also was nauseated after I took it. Got switched back to the name brand, Lamictal and I feel normal again. If you are on this medication and it is not working for you or causing bad side effects, ask your Dr. to switch you to Lamictal. It is really the wonder drug. Unfortunately, now I will have to fight with my insurance company to supply me the name brand. Read More Read Less

I've suffered from PTSD and deression for over 6 yrs and nothing has worked for me. I then suffered several seizures, which allowed my Dr. to prescribe Lamictal. The perk of it has also it's benefits in treating Bi-Polar disorder. This has been lifesaving. I once again feel hopeful and at peace. However, in 8-'08, Lamictal was switched to the generic form. All if not most of the benefits of Lamicatal are gone. I recommend Lamictal 100%, however I DO NOT recommend the generic form at all.

I started taking Lamictal about a year ago and it has been a life saver. I have tried all of the SSRI's and they stopped working. I was placed on Wellbutrin which worked for about 2 years than stopped. My pdoc prescribed Lamictal for untreatable depression in addition to Wellbutrin XL. I feel normal for the first time in my life. It has been a lifesaver. Take it, it might be yours!

I have been taking lamotrigine for over 2 years and find it immensely helpful for combatting depression. However, my family physician found my immune system ratio is now below normal . I pick up infections more easily and had a severe pneumonia for which I had to be hospitalized. Has anyone had this abnormal blood test?
