I am a 58 year old female with severe osteoarthritis in both knees, received a corticosteroid injection in both knees with good relief for about 3 months. I have since received the single dose synvisc injections in each knee, the 1st injection was a month ago & I had no adverse side affects, that knee is almost pain free. The other knee was just injected a week ago, the injection was not painful at all but about 48 hours later I woke up with extreme pain & unable to bear weight at all on that knee, I also am having muscle cramps below & above the knee. I was told to use NSAIDS & ice + elevation, its been 5 days I still am having pain when I get out of bed, it does decrease a few hours after I get up But I have to use a cane to get around. My DR. says it is a rare reaction & could last 1 to 3 weeks. Hopefully I will still get some relief when this reaction subsides because the 1st is working so well. I would recommend the injection just because I am having such good relief in the one knee & haven't given up hope that I will get relief in the other eventually.Read More Read Less

I have been using Synvisc for over 2 years now. A couple of times my knee did swell but the final results were well worth the few hours of swelling. Today was my first injection of the three set series again and the doctor said we would do this as long as it works and keeps me from having a knee replacement. Two thumbs up for Synvisc!

I'm on shot 2/3, Knee feels WAY better! Wish I had had the shots sooner. No pain during or after the shot. All the bad reviews made me nervous, but my Dr. swore I would feel better and he was right!! Freezing spray stings for a second, but thats the worst of it.

I was told by an orthopedist 20 years ago that I needed a knee replacement. With the use of Synvisc I am able to run after the second injection and get 6-7 months relief after the 5 injections. Works very well for me.

I used the three doses, and it worked wonders for me. The shot is not that painful< and certainly not aas bas as the pain I have everyday. I am about to have my second dose. I had the series a year ago and it last exactly 6 months! That was better than taking medication daily.

I feel so bad after reading all these reviews, i had to post my comment. First of all the shots arent that bad. My 1st shot the Dr. numbed the skin with a spray then injected the needle, i felt a pinch then alot of pressure then it was gone. Im currently going for my 3rd round of the 3-shot series. The 2nd shot wasnt bad at all. the 1st shot gave me some stiffness and i was a little sore. The 2nd shot i feel alot more relief. I was told sometimes it takes the 3rd shot before you notice alot of relief. I had surgery on rt knee for a torn minicus and had pt and still could not walk up stairs. After this 2nd shot i feel so much better. Im able to walk up stairs with some discomfort. Something i wasnt able to do at all without being in excruciating pain. This shot was well worth it to me.Read More Read Less

Shortly after the injection I developed shingles. Is there any connection between the material used in the injection and shingles?

At this writing, I am unable to walk. Had I been told how toxic these injections are, I never would have allowed them. I hope for all of us who have suffered and are still suffering, I hope some sharp attorney steps in on this.

I've had injections in both knees for 5 years. It has been very effective and has enabled me to continue working construction (at a slower pace). I coach baseball as well, while I'm not as active I'm still out there.

These shots made my knee pain worse. The knee immediately swelled. It has been about three months and I am in worse pain than I was.

Had the Synvisc One injection on a Friday, 11 days ago around 10:30am, by 2:00am I was miserable, my knee was (is) HUGE & I couldn't bend or straighten it. Sunday morning my husband all but had to carry me to the car & take me to the ER. They gave me pain meds for the pain & I followed up Monday with surgeon, he aspirated my knee & sent me on my way. Today I am also experiencing the gastrointestinal side effects, nervous system (skin prickling), headache, some lower leg swelling & my knee is still huge & painful. I will never again use this. If you choose to try it, be informed of all the side effects & be sure you have a good doc with good follow up care. If I can get back to where I was before this injection I will be very happy!Read More Read Less

I am 52 year old female, with knee damage to both knees from years of being a letter carrier. I have had a total of 10 surgeries between both knees. Four weeks ago, my surgeon started the injections, 5 once a week. The first one was very painful, but after a few days I was hopeful this treatment would work. The second injection was almost pain free and my pain levels were starting to decrease. A week ago I had my 4th injection and its been unbearable pain ever since. I now have swelling in my knee, can not bend it or put weight on it. I see my surgeon tomorrow for my scheduled 5th and final injection. I do not plan on continuing this treatment. I was so hopeful this would work thus avoiding a total knee replacement. Now it looks like I have no other option. I have heard so many wonderful things about this treatment. Unfortunately it only seems to be increasing my pain. Read More Read Less

I was given a Synvisc injection in August of 2010 and had immediate great results. I was given a second injection in December 2011 and had VERY painful red, swollen knee results that required draining of my knee. It was drained twice -- 50-70 cc each time. Would I react any differently to Orthovisc? An interesting note: this happened to my sister as well -- same scenario. Allergy?

My or tho surgeon suggested synvisc after ankle surgery, the 2nd and 3 rd shot were extremely painful and now 6 weeks later I'm still in so much pain, can't wait for this to wear off, if it does. I wish I had never taken the shots, can barely walk at all now and I'm only in my 40's.

One ijection in my knee to treat severe chondromalacia patella eased the pain enough so that I could get back to exercising.

Had single injection June 2011. Pain and discomfort for 3 weeks, then magically pain free for 2 months. Slowly returned to pain and tightness. Second injection December 2012. Had reaction, much pain and swelling for 2 weeks. Three weeks of limited use, intermittent swelling. Worse now than before last injection. Thought second injection would Git-R-Done...but oh well. Total knee replacement is only option now. Glad this stuff works so well for some...just wish the side effects weren't so severe. Read More Read Less

Had 6 injections (3 in each knee) and each one was different. They ranged from hardly feeling it to very painful. However, the end result was fantastic and I highly recommend it. A few weeks after the last injection in each knee, the pain was much much better. One of my knees has a missing ACL and so it would "give out" 3 or 4 times a day. Now it does it about once or twice a week. It has been 7 months now and still good restults.
