I WAS ABLE TO GET AROUND THE HOUSE AND WALK SHORT DISTANCES WITHOUT AID.I RECEIVED MY INJECTIONS ON JUL7,14,21 2009 AND MY KNEE BALOONED AND NOW HAVE EXTREME PAIN BEYOND WHAT I HAD BEFORE.I CAN ONLY WALK WITH THE AID OF A WALKER AND AM ESSENTIALLY HOME BOUND.I MUST STATE THAT THE INJECTIONS HAVE HAD A VERY NEGATIVE AND DEVASTATING AFFECT ON MY KNEE.

I'm a 54 year-old overweight, but otherwise healthy, white male with osteoarthritis in both knees. Left knee has undergone arthroscopic repair while right knee has not yet required surgery. My OA is limited to my knee joints and does not occur anywhere else and is, therefore, likely caused by college football injury. I take oral Celebrex daily and undergo my series of three Synvisc injections in each knee (bilateral)every 6 months. The subsequent reduction in pain and increase in mobility is apparant within days of the first injection. By injection/week #3 my pain is virtually gone and both knees are restored to near-normal function. This pain-free period usually lasts for 5 to 5 1/2 months at which time symptoms gradually return and the cycle repeats. I will shortly be going in for my 5th round of Synvisc injections and plan on staying on this regimen until my doctor and I decide that it is no longer working. At such time I will likely undergo knee joint replacement. I view Synvisc therapy as a very cost effective and low risk way to reduce the pain and increase the range of motion in my damaged knees and also feel strongly that this drug is allowing me to delay the inevitable surgery for a few years or so. I am looking forward to the newly-approved "one injection" (versus three)application as soon as my doctor and I win the battle with Aetna Insurance.Read More Read Less

I have had several Synvisc treatments, 3 shot series and 5 shot series, Synvisc has worked for me each time so far. Shots are not fun to receive, but grit your teeth and think ahead to the outcome. Sometimes begins to work within few weeks, but each time by one month, am pain free. Love this stuff.

Have received 2 of the 3 injections and haven't noticed much "Change" but my previous (steroid) shot maybe had not worn off fully yet; not sure. Have Grade 4 arthritis rt.knee and dont want surgery. The injections , IMO, are less painful and sting less than the steroid shot.

I had OA in both knees. It took 3 sets of injections (9 shots in each knee) at 6 month intervals to get lasting relief. I had the same doctor and he was excellent in giving the injections. The last treatment was over 1 year ago and I have no complaints. I am able to walk 5 miles almost every day and then sleep at night with no pain in my knees.

I'm 73 yrs old with damaged knees and OA. I have had my 2nd shot for the 1st series of 2. So far they have been wonderful and I can walk without a cane and do light tasks. My last shot in this series is June 4, 09. Hoping for more great relief.

Had an allergic reaction following second injections (hives, tingling lips, swollen, red hands) and was told I can never have Synvisc again. The second set of shots was significantly more painful than the first. Too soon to know if I'll get pain relief from the abbreviated treatment.

This is my second time in 6 months having Synvisc. My first series there was not as much pain during injections. This time I am finding the shots very sore. Same Doctor. I am having a much longer time feeling better after each shot. I find that the difference may be that last time I had an athrosope done before to clean it all out. This one has been very painful. I do find the outcome worth it.

I have OA in both knees, left knee had 3 scops, cortisone shots and synvisc which did not help me at all, end result was total knee replacement in that knee. The synvisc injections were mildly uncomfortable, but tollerable. The drug just did not offer the relief that I was hoping for. I suffered no complications from the injections.

I was receiving Synvisc injections once a week for 3 weeks for Meniscus tear. After a 2 week pause I got 3 more injections over 3 week.It reduces my pain for about 3-4 days after an injection. Still experience sharp pain with certain knee movements and even when in bed. The injections are almost painless for me. Synvisc seems to alleviate pain for a short time, but did not cure the cause of my pain. I did not observe any side effects. I also have Polyarthritis, polymyalgia and had surgery in my other knee to repair a comminuated kneefracture, ACL and MCL. Now both of my knees are not working properly and I am in constant pain.Read More Read Less

I got my first series of 3 shots in February,08.I felt the benefit after about 4 weeks and this allowed me to return to my normal activities. The pain returned in November 08 and just had my second series of 3 shots . This time the releif was almost immediate. Taking shots was not a problem at all.

54 yr old and was told that I needed a knee replacement 4 yrs ago, synvisc has saved me the trouble and pain of knee replacement and I can still do my job as a plumbing contractor. With knee replacement my job would have been in jepardy. I usually get the 3injections approximately every yr and they are somewhat painful but work.
