I can tell you that I've tried other things like Linzess and Amitiza, but Bentyl is a winner. It continues working and I am very very grateful, as it alleviates pain constipation, but most of all, the excess gas building up in my colon. I actually have more regular and solid bowel movements, the air blocked any waste from moving in my colon and never came out in one solid movement. The side effec...

I have IBS-C and actually in my case stops the pain and spasms and without the side effect of constipation. I don't know where I would be without this medication I really don't.

Used for stomach cramps... the only weird thing about it it that my lips and face start tingling... no rashes or discomfort... just makes my face tingle. Maybe its a part of the relaxing of the muscles.

Many years ago I took Bentyl for IBS pain. Worked great for a long time, then I began noticing it triggered heart palpitations, so I had to stop taking it. Went into the ER this morning thinking I had diverticulitis, but after a CT scan was diagnosed with a severe IBS flare and given a Rx for Bentyl. Decided to try it again. Didn't really work well (I only took half a tablet, so 10 mg), and I developed a migraine aura and have had palpitations and a brief atrial fibrillation period (15 seconds). My heart is pounding like crazy. So no more Bentyl for me ... I'd rather have pain than this craziness. My father also takes Bentyl and it works great for him, but with my history of PVCs and PACs (heart palpitations), this is a no-go for me.Read More Read Less

Traveling was awful for me until I began using this medicine. It is a godsend! My stress levels then shot up with a job change and 20 mg at the first sign of symptoms has spared me a LOT of pain. This is certainly the best medicinal I have ever taken. God bless the scientists who invented this wonderful pain saving wonder drug!

Diagnosed with UC in Jan of this year. Taking Humira for it now. Diagnosed with Pancreatitis at Thanksgiving and had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks later. 80% of the pain went away after the surgery but still was having stomach spasms. Started Bentyl and spasms are gone. Finally living with no pain!

My side effects were extreme nausea. I had to take an anti-nausea meds (Zofran). I had cramping, and a rash. I felt like I had the stomach flu.

First started having extreme pain (combined with liquid stools) when early teen. (Actually all but prevented me from dating, because the attacks came so frequently and unpredictably, that I had to carry toilet paper rolls in my bags.) Back then, x-rays were 'primitive' compared to now. Regardless of the amount of barium one would drink (a chalky white liquid that coats the esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon, soft tissue issues would not be visible. I had six exploratory surgeries before I was 20. There was no discovery of what my problem was and there were no pain medications given to a 'child' that were close to strong enough. At 24 I passed out from the pain one day while at lunch with my work mates. Woke up in the hospital a day later. I do not know what they did, but do know that the problem was discovered and I was put on Bentyl. I am now closer to 70 than 30(!) and have been on it all these many years. To say it was 'miraculous' is an understatement. It allowed me to enjoy life without fear of having to leave the 'party.' The episodes have decreased to no more than three or so a year. I continue with Bentyl as a preventative and I cannot praise this 'miracle' drug highly enough. Read More Read Less

I am so relieved that I am not the only one! Starting taking Bentyl over the summer for IBS and upper abdominal pain. Initially it did help with constipation and cramping pains, also helped me be regular. For the first 2 wks I thought I was doing great. I guess after my body adjusted, the side effects really started kickin in. I had a few occasions that felt like panic attacks, but always had shakiness, nervousness, and driving to class some days I felt like I could pass out very easily. Irregular heartbeat. The easiest way to explain it is that I did not feel like myself. Had no appetite as well which is strange for me because I love food. Here recently before I read these reviews I stopped taking it and noticed a real difference. Instantly felt like myself again. I don't know if this medicene was initially made to be taken everyday. I think it was only made to treat for a few days. All I know is I'm over it! Side effects weren't worth it! I'll have to deal with my symptoms or find another type. Other factors are that I have poor functioning gallbladder with spasms shown through HIDA scab and getting it removed soon. Colonoscopy Endoscopy only revealed small stomach irritation and an combination IBS diagnosis. Read More Read Less

Have started taking this "miracle" pill a few weeks ago. I can say that it has giving me LIFE again! Before taking this pill, I had constant abdominal pain. I am taking a 10 mg pill, but will ask the doc for a 20 mg pill, as this pill is pretty much working about 90%. Hopefully, with the increase of dosage, the abdominal pain will be gone 100%! Plus, no side effects from this blue pill. Yea!!

Bentyl is very much a miracle medication. I suffer from Diverticulitis, and for those who suffer like I do, they know the true severe pain this condition causes. I was prescribed Bentyl 20mg about 5 years ago, and it is absolutely what I call "life-saver". When the episodes hit me, I am pretty much down for the count, but this medication is not only very effective in significantly reducing the pain, but is also very fast acting. I am extremely grateful this medication exists! Without it, I would probably be suffering a great deal. I would recommend this medication to anyone whom suffers from any sort of digestive issues. Long time user. I was swithed by my insurance company to the generic brand of bentyl because it was cheaper. The generic did not work. Had the insurance company change back to bentyl brand to realize the benefits. Weird how the generics did not work.

Perscribed Bentyl after visiting the ER with severe stomach/hiatal hernia problems. it worked a little bit to relieve the cramping, but I didn't think it was going to have horrible side effects. made me think I was having panic attacks. would get very hot, and the feeling of restlessness/ claustrophobia would overwhelm me. then the heat would subside into chills, and if i would think about what i was feeling the symptoms would return tenfold. Had to pace or distract myself until i calmed down. I don't remember it giving me blurred vision, though one review on here about that symptom is enough to persuade someone not to use this drug... When i went to my regular doctor, he told me to stop taking this immediately. Read More Read Less

Although I don't like the groggy feeling that is a side effect, I love it that 20 minutes after I take Bentyl I no longer spasm. IBS is so debilitating - I read that it's a primary cause of absence from work. I'll take the side effects over the cramping any day.

Not happy at all with the medication, instead of helping me out it seems to just make the problems way worst.
