These reviews are depressing! While in college a friend recommended Loestrin to me and I've been on its generic ever since, over 10 years now. I had a child in 2005 and continued Microgestin awhile after that. I've been completely satisfied with the product. No weight gain or spotting, no extraordinary moodiness or nausea, very little cramps if I've been exercising and eating right, and my libi...

My ob/gyn put me on this medication after taking out my IUD (mirena). I had the mirena for about 6 years and the last couple of years were pretty bad. So, I decided to change birth control method, so I got the Microgestin FE 1.5/30 prescribed. I thought it was gonna help with the acne and loss of sex drive that the mirena started causing those last couple of years, but since I have been on this pi...

I have been taking Microgestin for 3 months and it is the first birth control I have ever been on. I am 5'2 about 125 lbs and I absolutely cannot stand this birth control. My breasts hurt without me even touching them; They have swollen and my clothes are tight even though that is the only part of my body that has gotten larger. I have random headaches and I get very VERY moody and short with people, even though I am normally quiet and patient. I hate how this medicine has changed me and even made my acne much worse than before I started it. I used to experience a lot of random spotting as well. Overall, I dread taking this every night. I am trying to switch to another bc in order to limit some of these side effects.Read More Read Less

I have recently started taking Microgestin, and so far I am not convinced that this birth control is fit for me. I am 5'3 and only 103 pounds so the dosage of the birth control may be too strong for my body's liking. I have been feeling nauseous, extremely fatigued, and have experienced somewhat of a lack of appetite when it comes to certain foods. Finding the correct form of birth control has been a struggle for me this last year. I use to be on the Depo shot however, once I entered into my twenties the shot was making me consistently bleed so my doctor advised me to get onto the pill and I have been struggling ever since. Yes, the pill has made the consistent bleeding stop; however, the side effects that are attached to taking the pill are so uncomfortable for me that I am even contemplating getting off birth control as a whole.Read More Read Less

I was on Microgestin for a year and 4 months. For some reason my doctor prescribed Gildess the past two months and its been terrible. Id say overall for me personally, Microgestin is a winner. Its very effective in the birth control area which unfortunately means my fun parts have been alittle dry since being on Microgestin. I still have cramps and alittle PMS but its bareable seeings how I can buy lube and advil. I am willing to deal with acouple slight side effects. I never gained any weight and I never randomly lost any weight do to this pill. I can tell you I am a very active person and it has been easy to maintain my original weight pre pill but also tone up by being in the gym. My mood only changed during my PMS week. (but that's not anything compared to Gildess.. Flip of a dime mood swings.) I never had a noticeable change in libido or appetite. It was great and i'll be switching back immediately.Read More Read Less

The most horrible side effects. I got my period one week after having my period. It was very heavy with a lot of bleeding, and it lasted for 7 days. It wanted BC pills because I was hoping it will regulate my period which is heavy, but this BC pill made it worst. I do not recommend this pill to anybody.

I have not got pregnant but since on Microgestin I can not lose weight, swell, and breakthrough bleeding during the middle of the pack. I take them continually so I will not have a period since I am 49. Because without the pill I am like clockwork and very fertile still but has very heavy bleeding.

Obviously birth control is not for every one like the lady that claims this pill took her to the ER I have had no side effects or anything negative I was on other BC but I had to many headaches but when I switch to this one I was very satisfied because my body took it well. I'm on the 1.5/30

I originally started taking this for very painful periods (to the point where I couldn't leave my bed) when I was about 18. I've been on it for over 3 years now and it's not only been successful in making my periods bearable, but it's made them more regular. It is also extremely effective for its primary use of birth control--my boyfriend and I use it as our primary source of protection and it has yet to fail us. I should also note that it is imperative to take the pill at the exact time every day (which I'm sure you all know), especially if you're using it for reasons other than birth control. The reason I mention this is because when I was not sexually active I would often forget to take it at the correct times. This caused very painful periods to follow, as if all the pain prevention the pill had so far was catching up to me. Other than that, I suffered no side effects while taking it as prescribed. I would highly recommend it for those who are suffering from painful periods and/or are looking for an effective birth control.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medicine after my lower estrogen pills caused breakthrough bleeding in my cycle as well as for bad cramps. the cramping was fine the first time but then after that every other month i'd still get cramps and/or a migraine. my breasts are tender 15 days out of the month to the touch. its not fun. im going to change pills ASAP

Took a while, but I'm starting to be happier with this medication. The first 2 months on microgestin, I felt really ill. I took it with dinner, but I would wake up in the middle of the night with extreme nausea. During the day I would be bloated / gassy, but I have IBS so this could be a side effect that others don't have. My periods have been regular and extremely light (no cramps, either), which is making me really happy considering normally my periods are a nightmare. No weight gain, acne, mood, sex drive, etc changes other people complain about that I've noticed, and now that I'm on my fourth pack I don't get any regular side effects unless if I take a pill on an empty stomach. This is my first bc and although I nearly quit during the 2nd month, I'm glad I stuck it out because I feel like I'm back to normal but minus the cramps / periods / awfulness that dominated my life several weeks out of the month before.Read More Read Less

I started taking this pill when my period started back after giving birth to my daughter. The first week everything was fine. I seemed dry but didn't accredit it to the pill until reading other posts. The second week I got a nasty headache for a couple of days then started bleeding just like I was having a regular period but I am still on active pills. I am on day 6 of bleeding with normal PMS symptons: headache, backacke, and tired sore feet. The flow isn't heavy but doesn't seem to be going away. I was very regular before the pregnancy and wasn't taking birth control. I have asked my doctor change this. Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this pill in order to A. prevent pregnancy and B. control an incredibly heavy, irregular period. It accomplished both of these things beautifully fpr the 5 months I took it. I had severe nausea the first week, but it quickly went away. I was satisfied with it until I started developing sever mood swings and depression as a result of the pill, on top of slight weight gain/acne. The depression began to severely impact my school performance, so sadly I have had to switch to another pill. Read More Read Less

I am almost finished with my second pack of this stuff. I started taking it on a recommendation from my dr. for severe pms. However, I am switching back to my ortho tricyclen. This medication has caused my face, neck, back and chest to break out with no indication of clearing up. I am moody constantly. I have also experienced a weight gain of around 5lbs (not a huge deal but I've been making a good effort to loose weight!). The only good thing about this pill is the increase in cup size..although that has come with some tenderness...and the fact that I am not pregnant Of course everyone is different and will react to this medication differently but I would NOT recommend it. My 15 yr. old started this BC last month after trying one other pill. She has had a headache for 13 days now, as well as dizziness, weakness, crying, and very tired. Been to three doctors in 10 days with no relief...think after reading these comments, she shouldn't continue this pill.

I normally have had no issues with other forms of birth control in the past, but I took one pill of this medication and ended up in the ER. About 4 hours after I took the pill, the entire right side of my face and head became very tingly and numb and I developed a sort of pressure feeling in my jaw. This tingling and numbness radiated down through my right arm. I called my doctor to make sure I wasn't panicking for no reason, and she stated that this is NOT a normal reaction to have to this medication and I should go to the ER. The doctors in the ER ran all kinds of stroke and heart tests, and found nothing wrong but stated this is a fluke reaction to this medication that could have been much more serious. Needless to say I will not be taking this medication again!Read More Read Less

I switched from Gianvi (which I had been on for seven years) to Microgestin Fe because I had frequent mood swings and was irritated easily. The first month on Microgestin was fine, my period was much heavier than before but that didn't bother me. At the end of the second month, my breasts started getting extremely tender, to the point where I wasn't able to go jogging anymore. I also gained about 10 lbs on this pill and have started to break out, which has never been an issue for me. I've been on the pill for three months now and will be switching back to Gianvi.Read More Read Less

I'm not going to make this review and pretend that I have never missed a day taking this pill, but side effects should not ever be this bad. First of all, when I started taking bc, I took Yasmin, and didn't have any problems. Then all of the Yasmin problems surfaced so I switched to Microgestin 1.5/30. I have experienced pretty much everything everyone else has. First it was the weight gain, I'm still unable to get this weight off while on this pill. The second is not having a period for months, then having extremely light ones for a few months then going back to not having a period, THEN having the worst period ever!(Terrible cramps, cravings, back pain, bloating, mood swings, hot flashes, nausea, fatigue, and heavy flow!!!! Its really inconsistent! But the only consistency is I have not gotten pregnant which is a plus. I dealt with all of that but now I'm having one of those worse periods ever except it's going on day 7! I'm used to no more than 3 days, 4 max! I have been on this pill almost five years now and I'm thinking its just time for a switch. It's almost time for me to have children and I do not want to harm my body with all this different forms of bc, prolonged periods etc. Read More Read Less

I switched to Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 from using Sprintec because I have some breakthrough bleeding one week and sometimes two weeks before I'm supposed to get my period. Because it has a lot more hormones, it's supposed to help with that. After using it for one cycle, I was dying to get back on my Sprintec. Microgestin did what it was meant to, prevented pregnancy and stopped the breakthrough bleeding, but the problem is I had two debilitating migraines during the first and second week of taking it. I also felt like I lost a lot of sex drive and felt weird during sexy times, like I had lost sensitivity in some areas. It was pretty disturbing and didn't feel normal, at all. I will say that I have a history of migraines, but I haven't had ones these bad in over a year. The doctor said more hormones will cause more migraines, but I bet the effects are worse on women who have a history of them. Either way, I am getting back on Sprintec. The doctor said I will start more early bleeding again with less hormones, but breakthrough bleeding doesn't seem that bad after experiencing all those extra side effects with the extra hormones. PROS: no nausea or any sickness side effects. I am pretty small, 5'2' and 115lbs and have been a steady 108 on this pill without changing any diet or exercise. CONS: Ive been on this pill for about 6 months now and haven't really had much of a period. Super convenient, but leads to unnecessary pregnancy scares.

I've been on this pill for 2 months and it is terrible. I've had mood swings, cramps all month long, spotting most of the month, and hot flashes. I've also been having pain and cramps in my legs. I've been bouncing around with bc for almost a year once my name brand was discontinued and this is by far the WORST pill I've taken. I may still have a sex drive but when your spotting all month long it doesn't really matter. I have another month supply of this but I'm coming off of this today. I can't even deal with the side effects for another week before going back to the dr. Read More Read Less
