I take Haldol for BiPolar disorder and panic disorder. It has helped me tremendously. I wonder how many milligrams these other people are on?

I was prescribe this pill back in 1986 and didn't know what I was taking. I had severe side-effects with muscle stiffness and I could control my body normal relax motion. It was the beginning treatment for me after being diagnose with schizophrenia. I never thought I had it in the first place. It made me lose my thinking memory for over 20 years. I haven't taken it since 1990. I stop taking it to keep a normal job because the side-effects made working difficult. I survived the post syndrome of Haldol but my memory was blogged so many years. I moved from the area and do hear voices any longer. I was very athletic and no believe a artist designer of someone wrongful doing or his will to play college level sports.Read More Read Less

One random weekend in college, I started having seizures. My parents took me to the ER and they prescribed Haldol... I went home and became schizophrenic. My parents took me back to the ER, they upped the dosage. Seizures got worse & so did the schizophrenia. My parents took me to the ER 15 times in a 36 hour period. Although I memory of this time is foggy, I do remember seeing & hearing things. The trees outside had faces. The final time at the hospital, they wanted to admit me to a drug-rehab facility! Please find alternative meds if possible. This is a drug I would not administer to a dead person!!Read More Read Less

This medication made me not want to do anything. I was a zombie and had trouble talking sometimes. It made me stable, but my new psychiatrist said, "he wouldn't prescribe this drug to his brother." So now I take Latuda, have been on for over two years and have had no problems.

I took this medication after post-partem psychosis in the hospital. I experienced terrible hallucinations. I could not swallow food without taking a drink. I felt like a zombie.

My 90 year old father walked into a facility without difficulty except for dementia related anxiety. He was given 3.5 mg of Haldol over and over again and despite our urging the docs not to give this drug they would not listen. Dad became a zombie and died of respiratory failure after losing the ability to swallow. This drug killed him as well as the docs who would not listen to us to take him off it.

I have been taking this for about a yeat to take the edges off my bipolar ups and downs. I have been perscribed to take it at my own discression whenever I feel that I am losing control over a moodswing (up or down, but especially up). I do find it effective even though I usually take small doses, but there is a side effect, that is that I do get tired and somewhat lethargic the next day. But it is nice to have something that sort of knocks me out a little when I feel that things are getting a little too extreme. I see it as punching the Bipolar in the face (but I do realize that that is my own face as well :S ).Read More Read Less

After detoxing from opiates/Suboxone, I was on a large amount of benzodiazapines at a tapered rate but started having episodes of extreme agitation/manic. I was prescribed Haldol in combo with Cojentin, and it was the only meds that made a differece.

I was hearing voices and had tried several drugs before but this by far has been a god send . My brain has slowed down quite some where I can think and rationalize things better. I still have that foggy feeling and sometimes its hard to get by but it makes a bit difference.

My 46-year old daughter takes lexapro, seroquel and ativan for mild retardation and anxiety-aggression episodes. During one of these periods, in August of 2011, she was taken to a "mental" facility for a 5-7 day testing and behavior analysis. On the second day, a doctor disregarded all warnings about the risks of giving Haldol to a patient with the diagnostic history and current meds she was taking. Although she was using all three of the drugs contra-indicated, he prescribed 2 Halidol doses that day, and 2 the following day. At that point, she was transferred to the emergency room of a well-known hospital, with Haldol-induced Parkinson and Tardive Dyskinesia. She was constantly tremulous, drooling, occasional seizures, twitching, loss of memory and awareness. She remained hospitalized for more than a month, then in a rehab-nursing facility for another 5-6 weeks. She was (and still is)wheel-chair bound, unable to walk, care for herself, or use a toilet. This lack of mobility lead to even more serious problems; in December, 2012, she nearly died of Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clots) in both legs, spawning additional clots in her lungs, which caused pneumonia and an almost-fatal concentration of sodium in her blood. She endured breathing apparatus down her throat and feeding tubes for three weeks, finally replaced with a tracheostomy. She could then breathe on her own, begin eating a soft diet and some speech. Randi is now, in March, 2013, still suffering from a drastically-altered personality, on a restricted diet, unable to walk, feed herself or do anything higher than a three-year-old level. She is still in diapers, although gradually some of her former self is emerging. She will never return to what and who she was before Haldol, but at least she is stable, in good spirits and has loving caregivers. Read More Read Less

my 77 year old mother suffering from dementia was given Haldol in a 5-star-rated nursing home in NC without our knowledge. She entered the facility fully ambulatory, continent, and able to eat well. Two weeks later, in diapers, unable to walk or feed herself, and 9 pounds lighter. Also shakes constantly. Staff just said she had a bad reaction. Truth: given a drug not approved for elderly dementia, and they overdosed her. Waiting to see if she will recover. So sad this is STILL being done, even in well-respected, church-run facilities.Read More Read Less
