I just had my second pneumovax shot about 5 hours ago. The first time, about 5-7 years ago, I had awful upper arm pain for about 3 days. I've had no other problem with any other vaccines including my yearly flu shot. Well, I'm sitting here typing this in incredible pain! This is worse than the first time. I can move my arm, but it's extremely painful to do so. I'm wondering if the nurse did it too...

Received shot in left arm thursday at 2 pm at CVS. My choice. By 10 pm i could not move my arm. It came on sudden. The pain was so severe in both arm and shoulder, i didnt sleep. Couldnt touch arm or shoulder without severe pain. Couldnt move without crying in pain. Fever of 100.1 stayed in bed all day Friday. It is Saturday now and still limited mobility but less painful. I will NEVER again get this vaccine. Thank goodness for this message board and reading others had the same experience, it kept me from going to the ER at 2am. This reaction is not on the paperwork, only soreness and stiffness. This was WAY beyond soreness. WAY beyond stiffness. Read More Read Less

I got this shot last Friday. I woke up 3 am with a 100.5 fever that i managed to keep down to 99.5 for 4 days. Raging headache, horrible nausea, i feel like i have a 150 lb anvil hanging from my arm. My injection site is ver swollen and red. Pain went into my bicep on the third day. Ive missed 3 days of work and will suffer when i go back, im exhausted. I m grateful i never have to do this again!

I am 29 with asthma and a bunch on low everythings on my blood tests. I went and got the shot today. There wasn't any pain and it's been less than a day so I'll have to update when I notice a change.

I got the Pneumovax 23 vaccine on Monday because I was diagnosed with some immunity issues and asthma/chronic bronchitis. The first day my arm seemed fine just a little sore that evening. I woke up the next morning nauseas and achy and my arm felt like a lead weight. I could barely lift it, it hurt so bad. It felt even worse on Wednesday, but by Thursday the pain has lessened considerably. However body aches and nausea has returned. I get waves of dizziness and some chills and feeling like Iâ??m going to vomit. This vaccine is awful. Hereâ??s to hoping it prevents me from being sick so much. Read More Read Less

This is incredibly painful! My shoulder hurts terribly every time I move it. I just had the injection about 8 hours ago and I am exhausted, short of breath and nauseated. It also itches terribly where the injection was. I already have congestive heart failure and the symptoms seem worse than usual since getting the injection. I don't think I would do it again.

I can move my arm, but it's extremely painful to do so. I'm wondering if the nurse did it too high on my deltoid, which is a documented problem with vaccines. In any case, make sure you REALLY need this vaccine, because this pain is not worth it unless you're in a risk class (I have an immune system disorder), because this is awful. I'm hoping the pain will subside over the next few days. I just took three, 200mg ibuprofen and am icing it. No relief yet. What else besides dead virus is in this thing? I'm reading of similar reactions that turned into surgical problems later on or bursitis. This is awful. Don't get it unless you have to! Read More Read Less

Received PCV13 in October 2018 and now on October 9, 2019. Very sore arm - couldn't use it for 2 days. Husband had more minor pain. Today (Oct 11) I developed rather severe chills, shaking which lasted for over one hour. Lost appetite, waiting now for more to happen. Just to inform that this can happen with this vaccine.

I wish I had looked into this before getting it. This is the absolute worst experience. I am 48 yo female with COPD from Alpha 1 so the doctors determined I needed it. I got it at 11 am yesterday and then ran some errands. I barely made it home because my arm would not work. I slept 12 hours last night and could have slept probably another 12. I am exhausted, nauseous, and cannot move my arm. No one told me of any side effects and I didn't think to ask because the first one did not give me any. Reading all of these reviews, I have to wonder what is in store for me in the coming days. I agree with another reviewer in that I would rather die from pneumonia than to do this again. DO NOT GET THIS VACCINE!Read More Read Less

I a 72 ear old woman and had the pneumovax23 on Mon., 9/17/19 9:30 am. Within one hour the pain started and when I went to bed pain was horrific. Lifting my arm was torture almost impossible the pain was so intense. On Tuesday, next day; I developed a big red painful area under my bicep area and elbow area. Very swollen and too painful to touch. I took 2 (325 mg) acetometaphen every 4-5 hours and kept a crushed ice pack on it. (on / off for 2 days)eve at night. By Friday I was fine.

I received the Pneumovax 23 injection mid July which was 5 weeks after I had the latest flu vaccine. I didn't get a reaction from the flu shot and my arm wasn't that sore after the Pneumonia shot, but about 10 days after the Pneumovax 23 injection, I started to get terrible aches down my legs from my starting from my hips, groin and ham-strings, painful back of knees and calf muscles. It was so bad after 2 weeks, that I could hardly get out of bed because of the pain in my legs. Hot shower and stretches and I got moving about and that helped me. Those 4 days were so painful. However, I took Panadol Extra and that helped. Some night were unbearable with painful hips, some nights a headache...and now 6 weeks later, sore throat and a major head cold - dry cough, headache and feeling awful....endless. BUT pain in legs has eased off. I wonder if it was worth it. Read More Read Less

I had this shot 3 days ago and have been unbearable pain ever since! The swelling is the entire arm and redness everywhere - not just the injection site as the manufacturers would have you believe . I was nauseous and Feverish for 2 days. Pain is so intense - that I would NEVER recommend anyone getting this shot! Wish I had known. My other friends did not have the same reactions. Just lucky me I guess. I am considering go to the emergency room it is that bad.

I am a 65 year old woman in fairly good health. Getting the pneumonia 23 vaccine was suggested by my PCP due to age. I can't speak to the effectiveness of this vaccine since I just received it April 8, 2019. But I can definitely speak to the very uncomfortable side effects since receiving it. The same day after receiving the vaccine, the injection site was red, swollen and painful, much like a tetanus shot. However, unlike a tetanus shot, a week later it still aches somewhat. But the worst part were the flu-like symptoms I experienced 4 days later. I started having very painful body aches, headache, sore throat, nasal congestion, sneezing, cough and extreme chills but only slight fever. Friday night I also had an episode of nausea and intense cold sweats, which lasted 15 minutes or so. I almost called 911, thinking I might be having a heart attack. But with no chest pain at all, I tried deep breathing with my head lowered to my knees and this seemed to help quite a bit with the nausea and sweats. The rest of the weekend was filled with the rest of my flu-like symptoms, including nonstop fatigue and sleeping about 12-14 hours nightly. And when I eventually woke up, I would be drenched in sweat. Today, Monday, April 15, 2019, I still have a dull headache, cold symptoms, and fatigue. I called my doctor and reported this to her. Am waiting to hear back. Very concerned about not being warned about the side effects of this vaccine! Read More Read Less

I cannot say if it is effective, or not. I rec'd the vaccine one week ago, and I still cannot lift my arm, nor sleep because of the pain in my upper deltoid and shoulder.

I don't know if the medication is effective because I received the shot less than 24 hours ago. The pain and dissatisfaction is real. I woke up during the middle of the night with a lump the size of a golf ball in my upper arm accompanied by a rash, a fever and massive swelling in my upper arm (the skin was so tight I thought it would split). The pharmacist who administered the injection made no mention of any side effects and I request the FDA make mandatory a description of the probable side effects (I say probably instead of possible because the data show that 67% of Pneumovax recipients experience what I've described above). I don't know how for what period of time I'll be unable to use my left arm but I know for a fact I would have (at minimum) scheduled the shot for a time when incapacitation would not have been as inconvenient as it is now. After reading the above remarks I see that I am not alone. I had the shot back in October 2018. It is now March 2019, and I am still having side effects. right after the injection no big problems. The site where I was injected was sore but I was advised that it might happen. A week later I was in a meeting and a sharp pain in my shoulder and neck hit like a tsunami. I thought that I was having a heart attack. Could not lift my left arm. Called the Dr. he said it was probably my immune system reacting. Then a lump appeared in my chest, saw another Dr. took Xray, not a tumor but still do not know what the lump is.Still getting pains in and near the lump and pain is traveling up neck and occasionally in my temple. I don't like this crap, wish I could go back in time. "Have lump will travel."Read More Read Less

I just received my injection on 01/31/2019 and have no idea if it will work for me. But, had no reactions to the shot. No swelling and no pain. Only pain I has was when he injected it into my muscle in my arm! Has no problems what so ever!

I had this injection in my Doctors office three days ago with no warning of possible reactions. A few hours after the injection I was at Stanford University’s Faculty Lounge having lunch, reached to get my jacket that was over the chair and experienced the sharpest pain in my upper arm. By late afternoon I could not move my arm without excruciating pain. That evening I felt as though my arm was broken, and had much difficulty sleeping. For three days I have been unable to use my left arm, it is painful, and I had to cancel a trip because of the pain. This vaccine has severe side effects and I donâ??t advise getting it unless absolutely necessary, and definitely not if you have to work or have travel plans. I will be discussing the ramifications of not advising patients on the debilitating side effects of this inoculation with my physician next week. I gave the Effectiveness rating a low score as I donâ??t know what that is at this date. Read More Read Less

I'm female, 65, and asthmatic but otherwise healthy. I own my business and work full time. I had this injection ten months ago. The night after receiving the vaccine, I had intense shoulder and arm pain with burning that was so bad I couldn't use my arm or sleep at night. Over the course of two weeks the pain and burning traveled up to the back of my neck, then down my left side and settled in my lower back and behind my left knee with a fiery sensation that is hard to describe. I have had excruciating intermittent knee and back pain every since. My Doc prescribed Hydrocodone, but it's ineffective. Ten months later, I'm scared that this will not get better. Some days I wake up nearly pain free and think it's over, then days later, the burning and pain are back with a vengeance. I've had a bone scan, X-rays, blood tests, ultra sound, you name it. There is nothing left except to call it a VERY sever and long term allergic reaction to something in the Pneumovax 23 formula. My worry, is that whatever it is, is doing damage to my joints that cannot be undone. I'd give anything to go back in time and decline this vaccine.Read More Read Less
