First two weeks on Amlodipine were great. It seemed to be working very well. I then developed lower back pain and abdominal cramping. These were the only symptoms. Stopping it for one day which seemed to relieve a lot of pain. At emerge they and I thought it was the Psos muscle as I'd been trying to workout. On advice I restarted and all the pain fully returned. I have kidney disease and often have adverse reactions to all sorts of medications. It's been helpful to read the reviews.

This has saved my life and I will tell you how. I had high bp, and exercised regularly, especially running. I had alot of stress and at times I would consume thc, and eat poorly.(not everyday). I stopped my heavy thc usage and was able to maintain my regular diet and make additional changes to the fiber intake, and lifted weight less(to help my kidneys not process muscle breakage to an extreme) and kept running the same amount. This medication was the finishing touch to me fixing my life. I regularly have a 90 ish to 115 over 60 to 75. I meditate as well. Alot of the people giving bad reviews I am for certain are obese, old and obese, or don't partake in regular cardiovascular exercise, and they don't mind what they are eating. This drug works only as well as the person taking it. If you think it is a "I can eat even more, smoke even more, and be even less active" card you are more than likely writing a bad review. This drug saved my kidneys it saved my life and I am extremely grateful for it. Stop smoking.Read More Read Less

I have tried so many BP medicines with frustrating results. Amlodipine is the latest. I started out with 5mg daily, but my feet and ankles swelled so much that I could not even get my stretchy shoes on. Doc put me on 2.5mg. Less swelling of extremities at first, but now it is worse than when I was on 5mg. My legs are like stiff stalks of celery with huge duck feet. It is so bad that my ankles' capillaries have bled through. Also, acid reflux is worse on this drug and it gives me an overall feeling of malaise. Calling doc to get off this terrible drug. Note: It did help my blood pressure, but I have also started using the Mediterranean Food Pyramid to guide my diet. Read More Read Less

In my opinion Amlodipine is a poison drug with a vary long half-life. I was given it for hypertension. On day 11 of taking this drug I got brain fog, light headedness, a dull headache and became nonfunctional. My wife had to do all the driving, shopping, paid the bills, etc. This condition lasted for about 3 weeks. Stay away from this drug.

I was on this drug four months. I gained five lbs despite not changing my low carb/exercise lifestyle. Also became dependent on laxatives. It lowered my bp but all bp drugs do.

I've been on Amlodipine bestalate for a few years with no problems, until the manufacturer was changed to Unichem. I started experiencing tingling of my nerves on both sides of my body of the arms, hands, legs and feet. I went to the emergency room because I was about to have a heart attack or stroke, but the doctor found nothing wrong, and I didn't suspect the Amlodipine so I continue taking it a whole month, while my system got worse, like shortness of breath, eye pain, racing heart palpitations, wheezing, dry mouth and lips, insomnia, anxiety, lightheaded, fatigue, weakness, little appetite (I've lost at least 12 pounds). I stopped taking the Amlodipine after realizing this was the problem! When I got the Amlodipine that was made by the original manufacturer (Lupin) it was still triggering the side effects from the Amlodipine manufactured by Unichem! So, my doctor changed my blood pressure medication. Now, the only side effects I still suffer from, until the Amlodipine is all out of my body (because there is no antidote, only time) I still have slight numbness and tingling of mostly my left leg and foot, dry mouth, and nervousness with a little anxiety at night, slight appetite. I'm just hoping and praying that this drug completely comes out of my system. Read More Read Less

Doctor added this medication, AMLODIPINE 2.5 to my VALSARTAN-HCTZ 320 HYDROCLOROTHIAZIDE 25 MG TAB for BP. Took it diligently for 14 days, have now discontinued. I am in early 70's NEVER had chest pain until started this drug. Have tightness chest and stomach with pain. This is a horrible medication. And to top it off reduced BP by inconsequential 1 or 2 points. Thought it was just me until came here and read these patient reviews. I have NEVER had a problem with any medication I have been prescribed in all my years until this one. I feel so strongly against this medication I finally signed up here so I could continue to warn others like so many here have already!!Read More Read Less

I’ve been taking this drug for about 5+yrs and my BP has honestly never been better without it. I’d honestly say the side effects, whatever they’ve been were minimal as opposed to me not being able to take it. I’ve been off of the medication for almost 2 months due to a Dr not refilling it because she hasn’t seen me in a couple months. So the side effects of that are SUPER HYPERTENSION! I mean waking up and my BP is 198/115!! I had to no idea how one pill could affect my body so much. When I took it regularly, I was seeing numbers of 140/90 with my other combined medication. Have been taking Amlodipine for around 11 months after 3 months on Carbimozol which caused frequent diorreah so had to change, had mild symptoms at first, particularly dizziness, tinnitus, which went away, and aching arms and legs, but i felt i could live with this...unfortunately side effects seem to be getting worse the longer i take this, i now have feelings of anxiety, neck and shoulder pain, constant tinnitus, ear pain and nausea and stomach problems, shakiness, fatigue and just feel generally horrible....Amlodipine works well to lower my BP and has also reduced my migraines to almost none, which is wonderful, but these symptoms now are horrible and i will be changing the meds definately.Read More Read Less

My cardiologist got me to try this twice insisting it’s the most tolerated blood pressure medicine on the market with the least side effects. Well I’m sorry but one size does not fit all it has taken me forever to prove to them that this makes me so sick. I practically felt judged and shamed just because it didn’t work for me. I even attempted to score at 2.5 mg tablets in half and for two weeks I basically took 1.25 mg and still got sick. He added this to my carvedilol for which I do excellent on but amlodipine is a disaster drug for me. I completely empathize with anyone that feels the same way about this horrific medicine and if your cardiologist doesn’t believe you fight to prove yourself not to be in the one size, fits all category and then find yourself a new cardiologist like I did!! I’m so grateful that I PA at my primary care clinic stepped in for me with my fight to prove that the struggle is horrible for me, but a sick patient should not have to fight to prove their point. I never wanted to believe it, but I believe that some doctors do get paid to push certain medication over another. Worst experience with the medication ever not everybody respond the same to a drug that’s just common sense. I empathize with everyone that has been in my same boots.Read More Read Less

Only 3 days in and that’s it. Last night had amazing hip pain and pain in my wrists. Thought it might be from painting until tonight when it came to me I started this new drug. Today I didn’t paint at all and my body just hurts. I mean horrible joint pain. I slept 2 hours today and last night tossed and turned, actually crying several times in the night. No more for me.

This is the worst drug ever!!! 3 weeks after taking it I ended up in the ER, bp 200/130 heart rate 180 ,uncontrollable shaking was hospitalized for several days and many tests just to find out it was the horrible side effects of this drug. When I got home stopped taking it. The overwhelming fatigue from the drug was just as bad and as my husband put it I turned into a zombie. Never again will I take this horrible medication.

I have just started on it, 2 days in; so I'm a rookie. My bp bottom # is high, it's ranges from 98 to 105. The top # was high around 170's but has gotten somewhat better and is now ranging in the 150's-160's. I wanted to look at some reviews about the side effects. IT seems that I maybe have been experiencing some of them already. But the thing is, I'm not 100% sure right this moment. I'm going cold turkey and try to change my diet, so some of my symptoms could be because I havent been eating what i normaly am used to. But I will be on the look out. This is also my first time on Bp medicine.Read More Read Less

Was put on amlodipine for high BP. Had been on this med years earlier and remembered that it caused severe stomach pain. Doctor dismissed this and told me to go ahead and try it anyway. Sure enough, by end of second day, the stomach pain returned. This drug does list constipation as a side effect, but this is not normal constipation. It shut my digestive system down completely and the pain was excruciating. I also had racing heartbeat with this med. My doctor refused to believe these side effects. I took myself off the med, called the doctor and told them they would have to find another med. Have since found a different doctor who actually listens to patients. If your doctor dismisses your side effects, find another one. Read More Read Less
