I have had A-fib for over 30 years on an irregular basis. I averaged one episode a year until June of 2006. That is when I started having A-fib 3 times a week on average. My Cardiologist has tried many drugs to control it. Finally in September he put me on Flecainide 50mg twice a day and I haven't had a sustainable episode since. I can feel my heart wanting to start A-fib, but it goes back into no...

I am still being evaluated by my doctor on this medication. I am not sure the side effects are caused by this medication or some other medication that I am on.

For years now I have suffered with shortness of breath, though I exercise regularly. I have AFIB and have just changed drugs. The former drug made me sleepy and without energy most of the time so my doctor prescribed Flecainide, 100 mg. twice a day. Since taking this drug, my shortness of breath has worsened dramatically.

I still get occassional palpatations but it does prevent the "run away" episodes. I can never miss a doseage so I am dependent upon the medicine.

Short story: Flecainide 50mg TID plus Metoprolol 50mg QID controls my paroxysmal AFIB and high BP for the most part. Infrequently (once every 3 months or so)I wake up in severe AFIB but it always converts to NSR when I take 100mg of Metoprolol and 100mg of Flecainide, and then I use as prescribed for the rest of the day. My cardiologist is not happy about my doing this and says he wants me on a monitor the next time I do this, but it just seems to work well with no apparent side effects. I've been on this prescription regimen for 1 year and compared to what I was going through I'm very satisfied with the medical outcome. No other side effects such as weakness, dizziness, tremors constipation, etc.Read More Read Less

have been on this drug for two months and so far no side effects ad no A Fib. Hope this continues as it has been a really frustrating summer with A Fib every two weeks...cardioverted and then sent home.

Was not getting good relief until I started taking 3 per day, results are better, though I cannot miss a dose for even 15 minutes.

Just started this drug 2 months ago. Very happy with the results. Minimal side effects initially which are now gone. No Afib at all. Also take Losartin and Triamterene for blood pressure and Xarelto for blood clots since I cannot take aspirin.

This drug drained my energy, caused longer episodes of AFib. All in all a very bad experience.

I have been on Flecainide for more than 8 years and have had no noticeable side effects during this time. The only issue I had was with breakthrough episodes of atrial fibrillation when my cardiologist tried to lower the dosage I was taking. I know there may come a time when the Flecainide no longer works but for now, I am very pleased with how well it works for me.

Initially, the drug worked very well, however, over the course of just about three years it became less effective. It did help control to some extent, as I was completely dependent on the drug to get through the day. As I said, it did help for sure, but by three year it was no longer controlling and converting me as rapidly as it did initially. Also, in my job as a First Assistant for Open Heart Surgery, the side effect of tremors is MOST unwelcome, however it was the lesser of two evils.

I underwent cardioversion (electrical shock) to return my atrial fib. to normal heart rhythm several years ago, and was placed on flecainide afterward. I have not experienced any further atrial fib. episodes since. I believe it has helped me.
