Two months ago I had a CT scan and had chest pain, elevated heart rate, rash, and severe muscle twitching that lasted for two days. Benedryl helped somewhat. They told me I was allergic to the CT contrast(they used saline flush before contrast was given). Was seen in in ER a few days ago for low potassium and the moment the nurse flushed an IV my heart rate shot up and my body began to twitch. ...

I had the same symptoms described by the first user.I was given a saline flush prior to an mri scan. Went into seizure type symptoms for three hours and the hospital kept me under observation and then sent home in ambulance. I had violent headaches and shaking for weeks afterwards and everyone keeps telling me its impossible to be allergic to the flush. I felt violently nauseous within ten seconds of having in injected and could even taste salt in my mouth. Pretty sure it sent me into anaphylactic shock (I'm first aid certified but was too sick at the time to diagnose myself). I feel like this simple routine procedure almost killed me.Read More Read Less

They told me I was allergic to the CT contrast(they used saline flush before contrast was given). Was seen in in ER a few days ago for low potassium and the moment the nurse flushed an IV my heart rate shot up and my body began to twitch. When I say "twitch" it's more like a huge continuous seizure. I wish I could post video. They would not believe that only the saline flush could be the cause and I received the flush two more times during my hospital stay and each time I had the same reaction and needed huge doses of benedryl. Anyone else have this problem? The package says no preservitives, so what is it?? I'm afraid. I got out of the hospital yesterday and if I don't take benedryl around the clock I have a terrible tic now! Read More Read Less

doing this for my father, been on home TPN for around 20 years, now after all this time, when he flushes himself with saline, he gets instantly sick, dizzy, and sometimes chest pains, no problems with tpn, just the flush, we have been going back and forth to cleveland clinic and they are stumped, its just been the past several months that the flush bothers him, anyone else ever had a problem with saline flush?
