I have been on Desogen for 15 years. I've never had any side effects and never had any pregnancy scares. So, it works.

I was having problems with irregular periods, so my dr prescribed me Solia. Being my 1st birth control, I was already hesistant in taking it but my dr specifically recommended it for me, and what did I have to lose! It did regulate my periods, but I also suffered from side effects. I was constantly bloated, to the point where my skin (hands, face, all over) looked puffy. I experienced an increase in cup size, going from a smaller A to a VERY full B. I also experienced an increase in appetite, gaining about 15 lbs over 6 months. I worked out, ate salads, nothing I could do would take the weight off. Plus, things that normally appealed to my taste buds didn't have the resiliance they normally do..even coffee (and I'm an addict!). I was ALWAYS feeling fatigued and sluggish throughout the day, no matter how much sleep I got. Plus, it made me break out on my back and shoulders. It also made me extremely emotional, I would cry often, and at the drop of a hat! All of my side effects are possible symptoms of depression, which I would otherwise have no reason for! I lacked any sort of drive or motivation for daily activities. Theo nly plus was I had no decrease in sex drive. I took Solia for a solid 6 months and after stopping, I immediately dropped 6 lbs in 4 days--with regular eating and not even going to the gym! It has been 2 1/2 months since I stopped, and I couldn't be happier. No more crying, my unsatiable hunger has stopped, I am more energized (on less sleep!), my taste buds are back, bacne has vanished and I have continued to lose weight. Surprisingly, my periods have also gotten lighter! I have noticed a small decrease in cup size (due to weight loss), but am still a full B. I have not started on a different type of BC pill at this point, rather I am enjoying my life back to the way it used to be...HAPPY! :) In the future, I plan on finding a birth control option with a lower dose of hormones.Read More Read Less

I have taken BC since I was 16 years old and NEVER had ANY side effects from any pill (11 years of BC). I received Desogen from the local clinic and within days I felt horrible. I felt possessed, so unlike myself; VERY irritable, moody (would be fine one minute and the next be crying) and tired. I had negative thoughts running through my head constantly, couldn’t sleep at night, wanted to sabotage my relationship with my great boyfriend and stopped caring about work. I started breaking out all over my back and face with acne and my eyes became super sensitive to light (which would cause migraines). I have always been a happy person and NEVER have had even the slightest bit of depression, and within a month of this pill, I was feeling like I was headed for the “loony bin!” I have probably cried every day for the last few weeks and before that I hadn’t cried for years!! I stopped the pill 3 days ago and woke up this morning feeling like I came out of a dream/nightmare. Thank god my boyfriend asked why I was acting different and then mentioned hormones because I would have never thought my birth control would cause this…but after reading all these reviews, I know for a fact that is what was causing all my problems. Stay away from this pill unless you love being a zitty, tired, emotional rollercoaster!!! Read More Read Less

i havent really been on this med long enough to take effect, however, it's easy to take, but hard to remember when to take it. I haven't had much nausea, but i've gained weight and am more moody than normal.

I had a reaction to Desogen in the form of cystic acne on my face, chest/breasts, and full back. I switched to YAZ, which caused no problems for me.

I have taken Desogen for 2 years and I love it. Number 1 reason, no pregnancy and #2 periods are light last only 3 to 4 days. In the past my periods were very painfull and heavy, now they are very light and pain free.

I have been on Desogen for 13 months, and I am very pleased with it. I got on it because my old birth control (Ortho Tri Cyclen-Lo) made me very weepy and emotional. I am still somewhat moody, however, My skin is perfectly clear, My periods get lighter each month, I have lost weight, I went up a full cup size, and I have never had a pregnancy scare. Desogen is the best birth control I have been on.

Does anyone else have killer headaches from this or is it just me? The day before I start my period I will start to feel a headache coming on. Then, the day that my period starts, I will be in bed with the curtains drawn and be almost blinded. The second day I will feel extremely tired and feel like there's a headache just waiting to attack. I love the fact that my period only last 2 days, but I'm thinking about stopping the pill because of the pain.I am taking it to control my period and cramping, and it is excellent for me in that respect. This was the worst birth control pill i have ever took. I had the worst leg pain, worst cramps, and stayed bloated the whole time. I kept a vaginal bacteria infection the whole time I took it. Would not recommend this pill to anyone.

This has probably been one of the worst pills I have experienced! It made me extremely nauseated with horrible stomach pain. After 3 months of taking it, I have lost weight and it has made me very tired. It makes me feel like Im pregnant. I would not recommend this. I know the side effects are different with everyone but for me this pill was horrible.

I became a different person on this drug. Sooo incredibly moody and horrible. I went off and risked getting pregnant for a month just so I could be myself again. It is so nice to have me back. I would never use this pill again...even if you paid me.

Yes, this pill prevents pregnancy, so I rated it a 5, it is easy to use, but I have experienced cramps with my period which is something I've never had. On the plus side of that, my periods are only 3-4 days long. What I really, really don't like about this pill is that every month for a week before I get my period, I break out BIG TIME! My skin is perfect & clear the first week, oily & red the 2nd & by the 3rd week my face is so oily & broken out I hardly want to leave the house! I have talked with my provider about switching & I am trying something new now, but I would never go back to Desogyn again.Read More Read Less

I was on Deosgen for about 10 years before I decided I wanted to get pregnant. I think any birth control pill takes some time to get used to, but I didn't gain weight or have any mood swings during the time on the pill. I had a baby girl and now can't go back on it since it's on back order and I can't wait! I'm trying a generic form and hopefully all will go well!

I was on Desogen for about 5 months before I had to switch. I couldn't put up with the fatigue and constant mood swings. I also had never had a cramp a day in my life until I started taking it. One plus though was that it increased my bust size by a full cup.

It was the birth control I took. I was only on it for 10 months before, I decided to get off of it. I gain so much weight on it in the first couple of months. And I was so moody the whole time I was on it, so I changed.

I started Desogen to help with my menstural cramps. It took about 5 months for it help with them...and I find myself very moody all the time. This is my first and only birth control but compared to my friend's experiences with other oral contraceptives, there may be better out there.I haven't had any problems with pregnancy so I suppose that's the biggest plus!
