Was started on Losinopril but it gave me a bad cough after just a short time, so switched to Losartan. It took a few weeks to kick in but my blood pressure is down in the 120s/70s range (was 140s/90s). I take 25 mg at night before bed. Initially the first week I would get a little dizzy after intense exercise like a spin class but that went away after a week or so. Now have had no side effects and...

I have been taking Losartan for over 8 years now and it has kept my blood pressure in check. Nothing I had ever done before had worked. I was a marathon runner and thought keeping fit and eating right would be enough but it wasn't, my blood pressure was way too high. I use and ACE inhibitor but it didn't work for me and gave me the worst headaches. I take 100mg of Losartan every day with 25mg of hydrochlorothiazide and it has kept my BP in check. One of my cousins lost his kidneys due to high blood pressure and not taking medication so I feel lucky to have found a solution before the BP caused any damage.Read More Read Less

my blood pressure was 150 / 90 and i was on 50gm. with 5 mg bisoprolol. dr doubled my amount. i wanted to ease into that much and am taking 75mg Losartan and 7.5 bis. My BP has gone UP! it was 170 / 110 today, my heartrate is going down, it was 70 today and it usually is 95 or 100. i will reduce to 25 losartan, my dr is no help, narcissist and would demand an appointment just to fight with me. i have lost faith in any dr anymore. nothing but pushy salesmen in white coats. I am taking BP readings daily and will not let it get bad. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this medication for one week and my neck pain is so severe that I don’t want to move my head. I am also having calf pain. I take 25mg at night and my blood pressure is good in the morning, but high by the evening. The pain in my body from this medication has tipped the scales- I can’t stay on this. So the one good thing is I now feel ultra motivated to improve my cardiovascular function through lifestyle. 30 minutes of physical activity is way easier than feeling like this 24 hours a day. My blood pressure was 148/85 before taking Losartan and after a month it is consistently 111/62 range - impressive it is working so well. I am trying to drop poundage so I can get off this stuff long term but it is doing well for me now. Taking the pill is the easy part, losing the weight is another story...

I was on lisinipril for a year and had bad cough and sinus congestion and was switched to losartan...cough cleared up but I do have insomnia and finding it impossible to lose weight...I am post menopausal so don't know if that is the reason for insomnia and weight issues...I wish I could get off meds and be healthy too.

Although hair loss is not technically a listed side effect of Losartan, it's the only change I've made in the past 6 months that could explain what's happening. I'm only 35, and my hair has lost about half its thickness in the past few months. After reading some other forums, it seems that I'm not the only one. There has to be a more natural way to lower one's blood pressure. I just wish my doctor would have tried that first.

Have been taking losartan 50mg for 6 months. Very happy with my blood pressure readings but have found it caused weight gain. 1000 calorie a day diet is still difficult to shed the weight.

If I could give this poison a zero I would. I had horrific side effects. My whole body felt like it was crumbling from the horrible aches in joints and muscles. It made my kidneys hurt and gave vertigo. I almost went to the Er. I had only taken it for 3 weeks. I was depressed horribly bad. I have now been off of it for 3 days and feel 1000% better. Will Never take this again!!!!

The medicine caused heaviness in my legs and made my blood pressure worse. I quit the medication after two months and feel better now.

So far I’ve had a good experience with losartan. Before taking losartan I was attempting to control my blood pressure on my own, but wasn’t successful. My reading was 143/91. My doctor put me on 25mg of losartan two weeks ago and my new reading is 114/71. No side effects. I hope this information helps someone. I also highly recommend hibiscus tea for blood pressure control.

I was switched from atenolol to this med- days 1-5 my blood pressure was spiking to a level I had never had in my life( 181/111 ) resulted in ER visit. On day 5 . Then the doctor doubles my dose to max at 100 mg a day! Still high with now chest pain , cannot sleep etc/ not taking one more pill and going back to my atenolol. BAD medication

Two weeks in I experienced terrible tightness in my chest, throat, heartburn and gastrointestinal upset. Wound up at the cardiologist to have an EKG. All was fine. Had to do two weeks of Omeprazole to get the gastrointestinal symptoms to subside. I have also lost 5 pounds in 6 weeks on the medicine. On the plus side…my BP is great. Anyone else have weight loss on this drug?

I was on 10 mg Norvasc, but my blood pressure was still a bit high. My doctor added 50 mg Losartan and 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide. My blood pressure decreased slightly, but I felt terrible. I developed a dry cough, I had insomnia, I was bloated and gained over 10 lbs. and I became depressed. I decided to stop Losartan cold turkey. I lost 10 lbs in one week, and became much happier, and less depressed. And my blood pressure went down significantly, but in a normal range now! I’m still on the other meds, but Losartan definitely didn’t work for me. Read More Read Less

This stuff is poison. Immediately after starting it I peed blood and started having kidney pain. Discussed with MD and the MD tried to say I had panic disorder and wanted to put me on an anti anxiety medication. I’ve never been diagnosed with panic disorder or anything like that and 45 years old. Continued having the kidney pains and felt overall horrible and sick. Ended up with fever and chills. Went to the ER and the doctor there said I must have “musculoskeletal pain”. Sent me home. I took it upon myself to change my diet completely and stop the losartan. Two days later my kidney pain was completely gone. I started feeling like myself again. Be careful with these blood pressure medications because they’ll make you sicker than anything. Start eating only fruits , vegetables, and take vitamins including magnesium. Cut out sodium. The doctors will dismiss your concerns and try to make you feel nuts. Listen to yourself and your body. My b/p is starting to go down naturally from the changes I made. I’ll never take this medication again! Read More Read Less

I was taking Lisinopril...had a constant cough for the months I was taking it, especially at night. Dr. changed me to Losartan. My BP came down and I have had no side effects at all. Then, thinking I no longer needed Losartan, I stopped taking it...and my BP shot up! So now I'm back on a Losartan and hydrochlorothiazide combination (50 mg/12.5mg). Again, I haven't had any side effects from either.

Was put on 50mg, it lowered pressure a little but wore off later in day. I experienced terrible sinus congestion and dry mouth. I noticed very bad anxiety and insomnia. Went to 100mg to last all day and got worse with symptoms, after 5 months I lost 50 lbs from no desire to live, the side effects were terrible I felt hopeless. Now back on Lisinopril and feel better outside bad cough and stuffy nose.
