I feel refreshed after each nights sleep. I am wondering if when I stop taken this drug if I will be able to sleep without it.

I have chronic insomnia, due in part to a traumatic brain injury. My weapon of choice in the sleep war is Remeron. It poops out rather quickly, however. When my Dr. recd the Halcion,. I was excited at the prospect of 7 or 8 hours of sleep. My jets were cooled around 6 Am, when I woke up after a paltry 6 hrs. Better than nothing, but about the same I I would expect on Xanax. I am not a fan. I f...

I have had long tern chronic pain which has caused MAJOR insomnia. I have tried all "sleep medication" with having the opposite effect on me. Ie, Ambien gave me so much energy I cleaned all night. I have taken this medication now for about 4 months unfortunately I have had to increase it 2 times now but it def works. Because my body got used to it so quikly my DR is going to now change it to a similar drug for a few months and then use this again when/if I get used to the other. I would def suggest it to anyone who has SEVERE insomnia.Read More Read Less

The dentist gave this drug to my husband prior to his appt. He took one before bed and one in the morning. About a half an hour after taking the 2nd dose, it was time to leave. My husband could not tie his own shoes. He was trying but couldn't make his hands coordinate to tie them. He then almost fell down our front steps. I got him into the car and had to buckle his seat belt. When we got to the dentist he did not want my help. (The Halcion actually made him a bit belligerent.) He started up the 5 stairs to the dentist's office and after one step fell flat on his face and never even attempted to put his hands out to brace himself. Luckily he only banged his elbow a bit. He was supposed to take another pill when he got to the office and I made sure they knew he should not. He came home and slept for 5 hours and awoke with a headache. He doesn't think the drug was that bad but the dental hygenist told me about the amnesia affect this drug has so I don't think he really remembers it all. As a matter of fact, I know he doesn't because when I tell him about his morning he doesn't remember what I'm talking about. I hope he doesn't ever feel compelled to take it again. It was tough to watch. Read More Read Less

I have taken Halcion the last three times I had dental work done due to the fact that local anesthesia does not work for me. It has no effect. I was prescribed one .25 mg pill half an hour before my appt and then once I was there, they would decide if I needed another which I did each time. It reminds me of what others has told me about being so drunk you can only remember bits and pieces of what you were doing. My husband has taken me home right after and I have slept the rest of the day. The next morning feeling just fine. Do not go anywhere or try to function on this drug. My kids told me some funny things I did while on them and can't remember afterwards, however I'm so thankful to have something that will keep me from the horrible pain of dental work. Dentists in the past have had me go through it feeling the whole thing.Read More Read Less

Dentist's don't provide info on meds. It is our responsibility to look up info before taking. Had major dental work adivan made me irritated. Horrible experience. He gave me Halcion for 2nd go around. Didn't remember much thankfully. He gave me 2 .25mg (slept the whole time no memory) which was fine for me but could be 1 too much for someone else. Always have someone drive and be with you for the day. Each person is different so err on the side of caution. Personally my drug of choice for dental from here on out.Read More Read Less

I'm probably the only one here for whom triazolam worsened his insomnia (in ways)... although it'd knock me out just fine, within 2 hours, I'd wake up partially and have parasomnias (i.e. abnormal sleep -- this includes sleep paralysis, open-eye hallucinations, and other not-fun stuff). I would also have extremely vivid dreams (occasionally nightmares). My liver and kidneys run through drugs like nobody's business, so maybe I just temporarily experienced the positive effects of the stuff and suffered withdrawal early in the night. I cannot give this drug a good rating, but it's just possible that my body and brain are unique and don't like the stuff, making me biased.Read More Read Less

Dentist prescribed Halcion for oral surgery; took one tab night before and one tab an hour before surgery-Excellent results. Have taken one-half tab before oral procedures since the surgery, am pleased with results. Be prepared to "sleep it off", but clear-headed the next day with no residual effects.

For the past 3 years I have suffered from chronic back problems, I have had 4 major back surguries and several different procedures all of which has left me with siciatic nerve damage and major scar tissue, so needless to say I am in pain 99.9 % of the time, I Have been given Ambien, Klonopin, Valuim, Zanax, and who know what else to help me get some sleep. I can sometimes IF I AM LUCKY get 3 hours sleep if the medication knocks me out enough but then the next day I am hung over and tired and cranky along with hurting. Yesterday my doctor reluticlantly prescribed Halcion for me.... OH MY I slept soooo good last night for the first time in years and this morning I feel great! Revived and well rested, if my doctor tries to take this medication away from me I just dont know what I will do! It REALLY worked that good for me. I think I can finally sleep again!! I've had sleep problems for 14 years. Avoided prescrip. drugs for years then finally tried: diazepam, rhohypnol, Ambien CR, Lunesta, Trazodone, Elavil. Rhohypnol (aka the date drug) was marvelously and 100% effective but brought about some changes in thought patterns so I quit after a few months. I've been taking .25 mg of Halcion for 3 nights and still wake up in the night but less and easier to get back to sleep. I think I will stick with Halcion because even though I don't get a full night's sleep, it calms my mind, doesn't give me weird dreams and doesn't leave me groggy in the morning.Read More Read Less

due to a cronic pain problem I've used Halcion for 20yrs. It gets me to sleep quickly. I still wake up several times but go back to sleep quickly. I'm addicted to halcion and don't care. I don't abuse the dosage, taking one at bedtime Everynight. I've tried the other sleep aids and always come back to halcion because it works for me and allows me to awaken clear headed.

Have had insomnia for 6 to 7 years. Tried Ambien for awhile but only kept me asleep for a few hours. Have been using Halcion for approximately 5 years and has always worked. I take the minimum dosage 0.25mg and have never needed an increase. I never feel hung over in the morning like I did with Ambien either.

DENTIST CALLED IN PRESCRIPTION TO PHARMACY FOR 3 TABLETS OF HALCION, TO BE TAKEN: 2 BEFORE COMING TO THE OFFICE FOR DEEP CLEANING AND ROOTSCALING BY HYGIENIST. I WAS UNCONSCIOUS ABT. 10 MINUTES AFTER TAKING THE PILLS (0.25MG EACH) I LATER ON FELL WHILE TRYING IN MY SLEEP TO GET OUT OF THE CAR, DAMAGED MY FACE, NEEDED WOUND CLOSING, SPRAINED MY WRISTS AND LANDED IN THE HOSPITAL WHERE I DID NOT REGAIN CONSCIOUSNESS UNTIL AFTER 4PM. I GOT TO THE DENTIST'S PARKING LOT BEFORE 9AM. I ALSO HURT MY KNEE WHICH WAS OPERATED ON BEFORE, AND NOW NEED MORE AND MORE THERAPY AND DOCTOR VISITS. THE DENTIST'S WIFE WHO SEEMS TO RUN THE OFFICE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS ALL LAUGHABLE, THAT THEY GIVE THE SAME DOSE TO EVERYBODY (O.5MG). I NEVER HAD TO READ OR SIGN ANYTHING - THE DENTIST AND WIFE WERE OUT OF TOWN ON THE DAY OF THE CLEANING. I AM HAVING MULTIPLE SIDE EFFECTS SINCE THIS EPISODE. SWELLING , HORRIBLE SKIN ITCHING, SHORT TERM MEMORY TROUBLE, MOMENTARY DIZZINESS ETC. I DID NOT YET FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF MANY WHO TOLD ME TO SUE, BUT I DO WISH TO NOT HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO TO PREVENT THIS? I AM A VERY HEALTHY 77 YEAR OLD WOMAN, WAS ALWAYS VERY ACTIVE, TOOK NO MEDICATIONS WHATSOEVER, AND WAS NEVER AFRAID OF A DENTAL PROCEDURE. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN -- INCIDENTALLY, AFTER THIS HAPPENED, THE DENTAL OFFICE (WIFE) HAD SOME FORMS DRAWN UP FOR ME TO SIGN (AFTER THE FACT). I NEVER RETURNED THEM, AND ALSO DID NO LONGER GO TO THIS DENTIST (A HIGHLY CREDENTIALED ONE). I INCURRED GREAT EXPENSE AND HAD TO HIRE HELP ETC. I DO HOPE THEY DON'T GIVE THIS DOSAGE TO OTHER PATIENTS WITHOUT WARNING OR CAUTION. I AM STILL SUFFERING FROM THE AFTEREFFECTS. Read More Read Less

Yet another benzodiazepine I've been prescribed, this time for insomnia. Very effective, though as usual I had to take a higher than usual dose (.5 to 1 mg.) No problems developing tolerance, feeling hungover, or withdrawing. Worked quickly and effectively.
