I have had IBS, diarrhea dominant, most of my life. I used to be home bound, going out to eat-never could do that because I never knew how my stomach would react to food at any given time. This medication has been a life saver. It has allowed me to have some normalcy in my life as far as getting out of my home, doing things like grocery shopping, eating out, or just being able to spend a day in to...

I have suffered from diarrhea for many years. Lomotil is the first drug that has worked very effectively for me. I started out with 8 tablets per day (2 tabs 4 x per day). I now take two tabs in the a.m. and two tabs before bedtime. I have also increased my fiber intake and my intake of water for a better health result. This drug is a life-saver!

I began taking Lomotil after colon cancer surgery resulted in diarrhea. I've taken it for 5 months along with Imodium. It works well to control the diarrhea but I have experienced lots of dreaming and my vision is blurred. I worry about long term side effects as my oncologist says I will probably have this problem the rest of my life.

Although this medication stops my diarrhea, I have found that about 6-7 hours after taking, I have been subjected to severe vomiting, sweats & dizziness.

I tried this yrs ago and it didn't work. So I was placed on 30 mg codeine and it worked well, then it started not to work so they upped the does to 60 mg of codeine. Now its not working as good as it did before. So I tried lomotil again and it seems like its working but I've also been on humira for the past yr for my crohns disease....

I have chronic diarrhea, IBS, for most of my adult life. I used to take boxes of over the counter anti-diarrhea meds. Since I have been on lomotil my life has been so much better because my symptoms are controllable.

I have IBS and suffered from diverticulitis at one point several years ago. The constant stress of IBS on the colon ages it 2 fold. I was 27 with diverticulitis, a 50-60 y/o's disease. Lomotil was introduced to me after the bout, and with that and a bland diet I calmed my bowels down for a couple of months. As I changed my diet to better suit my condition, I have been able to regulate healthy movements, and at the first sign of an IBS bout I take a lomotil and the cycle never gets started again. IBS used to run my life, and this drug and diet and dedication to routine has helped me conquer it. Read More Read Less

I Find that 2..5 mg twice a day works fairly well. when it doesn't work (such as after a very high fiber meal) I add in one Wal Mart brand of diarrhea drug (Loperamide?). That will almost always constipate me, so it is a constant merry go round ride! as my friend says, though, at least my students don't call me "Miss Poopy Pants!"
