I went to the doctor with the intention of getting my period under control, I’ve had my period for almost a month now..I took the medicine for a couple days maybe 4? And my periods stopped and two weeks later it’s back. Bleeding is moderate but these cramps are keeping me up and I’m so nauseous from the pain. I can’t sleep..I’m just waiting for my follow up appointment

I am 55 years old but have not completed menopause. I javelin fibroids, heavy uterine bleeding that has been going on for 7 months. I am anemic and ended up in the hospital in November/Dec having 11 blood transfusions. I started taking 30 mg Provera in the hospital and then that dosage was doubled. I have been taking it now for two months and it works some of the time but then I get breakthrough bleeding. Which can last for many days. Several procedures were discussed for me but nowhere in my town do the hospitals have a gynecology department so I would need to go about an hour out of town to another hospital and I don’t have transportation. The longest I’ve gone not bleeding at all on 60mg Provera has been 18 days. Then it starts up again, heavy bleeding and clots. Currently I’m not bleeding but have a massive clear discharge that seems like urine but is much more viscous. I wait to bleed more and am desperately afraid I will need more transfusions. This medication has not solved my problem perhaps only a procedure can but I have serious comorbidities that complicate being able to have a surgical solution.Read More Read Less

After experiencing a prolonged heavy period for nearly 5 weeks, I was given provera 10mg 1x a day for 10 days, to try and stop the bleeding and reset my cycle. The Provera never stopped my bleeding, though it did reduce it quite a bit. 3 days after my last dose, the spotting I'd been experiencing turned into a full blown period from hell. 4th day and I'm having to change an overnight pad hourly, and having excruciating cramps from my uterus all the way down my legs, which I don't typically have. Worst period of my life. My bleeding is worse now than it was before I took the provera, I seriously regret taking it. I hope it stops, I'm debating just getting a hysterectomy at this point. I am taking this medication as a part of my feminine transgender transition. In addition, I have been on 8mg of estradiol and 100mg of spironolactone for 18 months. My provider added 5mg daily of Provera 6 months ago to aid in lowering my testosterone more and to help with body hair loss. My testosterone levels now hovers around 0, which I love and I have seen significant body hair loss. I have also noticed that my penis, scotum and testicles have shrunk alot. My testicles started out about the size of a large grape and now they are about the size of a pea. It's Darwins use it or lose it. My penis now looks like a childs. After the first 2 weeks, I stopped getting erections and sperm stopped being produced within the first week because no liquid would come out. I can't even get an erection with viagra. The other big thing I noticed was that within a few days I had breast tenderness and within a few weeks I had breast buds and they were very sore. Its exciting knowing the soreness is breast development. The down siides that I have noticed are weight gain and the occasional headache and insomnia.Read More Read Less

I am 50 yrs old. My period usually lasts 4 days bit they are super heavy with clots. I have a 28 day cycle. I just got diagnosed with anemia 7.8 level. I knew it was because of my heavy periods. I was referred to a hematologist and OB.Gyn. I got an iron fusion and I was great. I had an ultrasound and they told me I had fibroids (3cm or less). Then I was prescribed Provera 2x a day. It delayed my period for 2 months. However, when I got my period I got it really heavy. I talked to Dr on Day 25. He said to increase the dosage to 2 pills a day and if that doesn’t help take 3 pills 2x a day. 60 mg a day! Well, nothing has helped because it is day 45 and my period is really heavy with lots of clots. I can’t even go anywhere because I’m in the restroom. I’m getting blurred vision, depression,…. I was not on any medications previously. I am scheduled for a biopsy in a couple of days. I stopped taking the Provera because I felt it aggravated my period to last 45 days and counting…. I took Provera on 2 separate occasions to delay my period while on vacation. The first time I took them my period started when it was due and caused awful pain, I thought maybe I’d not taken them correctly. 2nd time I had Provera was 8 years later, again to delay period while on vacation. I started taking them 4 days before my period was due and I set alarms to take them the same time every day, again they did not stop my period at all and infact has made it go on even longer. I’m currently on day 9 when they only normally last 5 days. Absolutely awful pillsRead More Read Less

Surprisingly after reading the reviews on here I can say that I received my period about 4 days after my last pill the first day was kind of heavy but the rest of the days were normal and I only had my period for 3 days I hadn't had any of the symptoms that was stated.I was a little hormonal and the cramps weren't bad they were mild cramps so I really haven't had a bad experience after taking this medicine.

DO NOT TAKE THIS! Especially if you suffer from heavy bleeding due to fibroids like myself. Especially if you are anemic. I wish I would’ve listened when I was warned by a family member. Although I have heavy periods with clotting and cramping, my periods were pretty regular and predictable. Plus the heavy bleeding, clotting and cramping was only 2-3 days out of my 5 day cycles. I was referred to a fibroid specialist. She suggested I would need an myomectomy and offered me something to stop my periods. She never discussed the side effects with me. The main one being breakthrough bleeding as being normal with uterine fibroids as she would explain AFTER THE FACT. I was instructed to take 10mg everyday. After weeks of heavy bleeding cramping and clotting she too told me to double the doses. That didn’t help. So I stopped taking them. I’m still having the same problems 3days after stopping. I stopped because I noticed my problems would pick up within hours after taking each dose. I am now 3 days without provera and I am bleeding heavier with very large clots. Read More Read Less

So I am a 25 year old female, who has PCOS. I have taken Provera twice already. Both times for 10 days, 1 pill a day. Both times, I got my period a week after the last dose. When I tell you BRUTAL periods. I mean brutal. When I was getting my periods naturally, they’d last me 3-5 days & bleeding was moderate. But on Provera, it’s rough. I’m heavily bleeding, soaking through 3 pads a day when it’s the first 3-4 days. Leaking everywhere, cramps, etc. For one, it is so much on your mental if heavy periods are not something you are used to. Before the two times I took Provera, I haven’t had my period naturally for a year. So I needed to get it somehow. And I must admit, it works. So I would definitely recommend, however you need to plan accordingly. You will bleed through clothes, a lot of pads, you might need days off from work/school from the pain and excessive bleeding. Good luck to anyone trying it ! Read More Read Less

My doctor prescribed me 10 days of medication of Provera last year since I haven’t had my period for 4 months. After taking it, I got my period back. It was much heavier than usual and I felt a lot more cramps. But it worked and majority of the months I had my period. Although my period did skip a month sometimes. It’s been over a year now and I noticed exactly after one year of taking the medication, my period stopped again. So I’m going to need more medication. But from my experience it definitely works if you’re trying to get your period back. Little bit about my history: I’m pretty small, 5 feet and 105lbs. I got my first menstrual cycle at the age of 12. Throughout my whole life I’ve always had irregular periods, usually had a little bit of blood and sometimes a skip a month or two. When I went to see the gynecologist, I learned about PCOS. And that there’s 3 main symptoms of it: irregular period, higher level of testosterone, polycystic ovaries, high levels of androgen (which causes excess facial hair + body hair). In my case, I was tested to see if I have high testosterone, which I do. And I have a history of irregular periods, which means that I most likely I have PCOS. Thanks for reading! And wish you all the best. Read More Read Less

I took provera to induce a period...and it was ( and is!) a very difficult experience that I still am dealing with 2 weeks after my last 10mg pill. I was unaware of the "possible" side effects that I experienced and it was very scary! I experienced : extreme fatigue, extreme brain fog, paranoid thoughts, extreme anxiety, slurred speech, dry eyes, and was VERY emotional. Apparently these are known reactions but I was NOT aware and it was scary thinking what I was experinceing was a psychologucal melt down. The provera did not enduce a period, which was not provera's fault since furhter on my diagnosis adventure to figure out why my period is gone,my ovulation may not have been occurring however the SIDE affects are ROUGH. I had to call out of work for 2 days mid 10 day challenge due it how fatigued and totally mentally mess up I was( still kinda am!). The only thing I expected taking this med was a really heavy awful period and have NO IDEA the other things could happen!! They can!! After not having a period I got my estrogen/testosterone checked, I believe the provera dropped my testosterone levels which for me, created panic attacks, fatigue ( less then the while taking the provera pills but still WAY tired compared to my normal energy levels), muscle loss in a quick as 2 weeks. Again this is NOT provera's fault since its supposed to! However, I was not informed of this) that provera reduced your testosterone level. I have never experienced a panic attack yet I did for the first time - and the multiple times since taking provera. I am used to being able to be an active 40 year old- I've lifted heavy wts for 20 years and consider myself more athletic then most people. I have a good diet and take care of myself, however I did get a Rabies Vaccine which I think is the real cause of my missing period. My only biological markers that were abnormal was the missing period, blood work looked good etc. I don't blame the obgyn for trying provera first but its VERY important to know that these types of side effects exist and you may get them. I absolutely will never take any type of hormone as a rx ever again. I am hoping that my body will re-regulate back to what it was before adding this progestrone to the mix. I think in the end my missing period is probably due to the stress the rabies vaccine did to my body and the effects of the provera is not helping me calm down!!!!! Please ask your Dr. what are the scary mental side affects you may experience so at least you are not caught off guard like I was. Honestly, had I known I would have felt better going through this just knowing what was going on was not some crazy drug reaction but a known side effect. After taking this medication I will NEVER take hormonal treatment ever again. Hormones have many roles in our bodies! Unexpected ones!!Read More Read Less

I was given these tablets to delay my period as my usual pills I use for such occasions we're not available due to a national shortage. I took them as directed, 3x tablets a day starting 3 days before my period was due. It has not stopped the period at all, utter garbage, never had this issue with Norethisterone. Will not use these again, not fit for purpose.

I was prescribed provers after getting Mirena removed. After 3 months of removal, I still had not gotten my period back. My doctor prescribed me 10mg for 5 days. After the 5 days, I started to experience slight cramping. Although, my period was not coming. I was beginning to worry that something was wrong with me, given most other people get their periods between 3-7 days. I called my doctor and she told me that it could take up to 2 weeks. On day 12 after stopping provera, my period finally came! I had the absolute worst cramps I’ve ever had in my life and am bleeding pretty heavily, however I am thankful that this medicine worked! Don’t lose hope if you haven’t gotten your period right away, but be prepared for extremely horrible cramping and a heavy flow. Read More Read Less

I was proscribed provera to delay my period whilst on holiday. I was instructed to take the tablets 3-days before my period, two tablets a day and my period would be delayed. I’ve now been bleeding for 1 week and 5-days- no delay in period, just an extended period. Bled all through my holiday which I wasn’t prepared for.

Took this medication cause I have pcos and was missing my period for a few months. Didn’t get my period until weeks later after taking 5 days of it.I have never had this much bleeding or clots in any period. Would never take again as it’s too much on my body. I cannot go to work or do anything because of the bleeding.

I am eighteen years old. I was diagnosed with PCOS after further investigation into a sudden absence of periods after previously having a perfectly normal cycle. I had no period at all for just over a year and a half. I was prescribed Provera with the hope of inducing it and it did exactly what it was supposed to with minimal side effects. I was instructed to take one 10mg tablet at night for ten consecutive nights, alongside a little snack, so no hassle and very easy to take. The only thing I did note was slight shortness of breath, but it's important to note that I do have an arrhythmia, so although it felt a little worse than normal, it very well could've been a coincidence that I just so happened to attributed to the Provera since I had just started it. No way to tell for certain, but regardless, it was not severe, did not last past my third dose, and I just wanted to mention it to be safe if nothing else. My period started four days after stopping Provera. It was not more painful than usual but it was much, much heavier and lasted a lot longer. That's to be expected after over a year, I suppose. Overall, it did it's job and I'm very grateful.Read More Read Less

I was given Provera for my missing cycle. Normally my cycle is on point and comes on time once a month. However this particular time i had went almost 4 months with no cycle. OBGYN prescribed Provera, 1 pill for 10 days and my period was expected to come within 2-10 days following me taking it. My cycle finally came on day 7 after i stopped taking. Symptoms and side effects were mild. I was a little moody, more tired than usual, cramps were a little worse than normal, and my flow was also a tad heavier than normal. I was nervous to take this medicine considering I am a victim of recurrent miscarriages and I have no living children. However, everything worked out and I would recommend this to those that have a missed there visit from mother nature.Read More Read Less
