I am a 50yo female who has had acne since I was 12. The meds available when I was a teen were not very effective, so I gave up and lived with it. A recent visit to a dermatologist diagnosed rosacea, and he gave me an Rx for Oracea and metrogel, filled as the generic metronidazole. I noticed a difference within 10 days, virtually no breakouts and much less redness. Within 3 weeks, my husband and b...

I've only been on it for 4 weeks but already the pimples are gone. Cheeks and nose aren't as red as they were. Some days hardly red at all. Hopefully with time will get even better.

Expensive, but worth every penny when you see the end results. Having a mild case of rosacea I saw results in about 3 weeks.

Acne rosacea on and around nose. After only 3 applications Metro gel caused red rash and then I looked like I was peeling from a bad sunburn. Guess I am one of those with extremely sensitive skin. Cost a fortune!

Metronidazole, Noritate brand, worked quickly for me, it is very expensive though, and they said at the Pharmacy there was no generic brand. Doxycycline Hyclate pills were cheaper and I used them 2 months, and returned to the cream, they both did clear my skin.

I had skin allergy all my life diagnosed as excema. So when my face broke out real bad I assumed that is what it was. It was the most painful bad breakout in my life. It took seeing a few doctors till I got the diagnosis of rosacea and it was infected. Once I got metronidazole and started using it as directed I had quick lasting relief. Very satisfied

I was using metrogel, but the insurance will only pay for so much in an year. Metronidazole dose not seem as strong as metrogel.

Within 3 weeks, my husband and best friend noticed too, my friend thought I'd switched to a lighter foundation color. After a month, I still have some redness, but much less, still virtually no breakouts, and even my acne scars are less noticeable. We'll see if the Oracea/ metronidazole combination breaks the cycle of infection/ inflammation. Wish I'd had this 35 years ago! I read recently that there are some antibiotic-resistant acne bacteria out there, and that taking two antibiotics helps reduce the side effect of acne getting worse while on an antibiotic, so the oral Rx combined with a cream antibiotic is the way to go. BTW, my face is extremely sensitive, I have to use baby sunscreen on my face, regular sunscreen causes awful acne. So I was nervous about the cream, but my face is soft and clear with it, and it's not at all greasy feeling. I try to put it on a few minutes after moisturizer, but it's made my face so soft that sometimes I skip the moisturizer and put it right on my damp face, avoiding the eyes of course.Read More Read Less
