I began taking Synthroid for my hypothyroidism. My TSH came down, but my free t3 levels remained low and I was still having many many symtpoms - hair loss, extreme fatigue, swollen eyes and feet, muscle aches, depression....on and on. My endocrinologist added Cytomel to my treatment & it has been wonderful!! I am not completely symptom free and I know I need a slight increase in meds, but the chan...

I have been taking this pill for 3 weeks now and I have not seen any change. I have not lost a pound. I am very disappointed. I have gained weight since being on synthroid and though (as the doctor)I might loose something being on Cytomel. NOTHING!!! Maybe I haven't been on them long enough but...

I have had hashimotos for a very long time. I have been to several endo's and all were idiots. They never tested my antibodies after the first testing and only tested my TSH and T4. After years of looking for a doctor that would listen to me and stop treating me like a fat girl trying to get a weightloss pill I finally found an amazing GP docotor. She is amazing at what she does and has finally helped me. In my beginning treatment with the previous docs they put me on 50 mcg of levothyroxine (synthroid). When I started to see my new GP she took a full blood panel. My T3's were very low and my antibodies were through the roof. She doubled my levothyroxine to 100 mcg and added 5 mcg of cytomel twice a day. I can not tell you what a difference this has made in my life. The biggest perks for me have been my mental and emotional well being. If you suffer from thyroid disease and your current doc won't listen keep looking. You do not have to settle for the first endo that comes along and from my personal experience ENDO's SUCK! Good luck to all out there and hope everyone gets the proper treatment they need to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Read More Read Less

I really didn't understand how much this did for me until I accidentlly let my prescription expire when I had two cases of flu just 10 days apart. It has been really awful. I will refill it tomorrow.

Initially I was very happy with this medication. However, I am in my early 50's and have just cracked two vertebrae and it is very painful. I also have three cracked teeth out of no where. This medication is the suspected problem and osteoporosis is listed as a possible side effect. I'm on 20mcg. If I personally had to do it again, I would take no more than 5 mcg. I think it is a helpful medication, but controversial and may indeed have harmed me in the end.

even tho my thyroid blood levels came up to normal taking levothyroxin, I still felt bad=no engery etc. After several months my endocrinologist added cytomel. Within 2 weeks I started feeling clear headed, energetic, no memory problems and back to my normal upbeat self. That was 25 years ago. I am still feeling wonderful.

I take 2 5mcg/day. I have trouble sleeping at night if I do not take Cytomel during the day. Cytomel improves my thinking processes. I have put on needed weight. (Most people probably loose weight.) I would like to try a higher dosage.

I've been on Cytomel since 1976 when I was extremely ill with Thyroid. Doctor told me had I waited 3 more months I would have died. It took one month for the medication to take effect and have refused to stop taking it. Most Doctors don't care for Cytomel and prescribe Synthroid in place of it but Synthroid stopped working on me back then and I pray Cytomel is not taken out of the market such as other medications have.

I thought I was getting alzheimers. I was also tired most of the time and realized I was depressed too. Saw something on line about a girl with my same problem. 1/4 thyroid left after surgery,42 yrs ago. It would not regulate since I was 23 yrs old.I was having to change the mgs all the time. I was always full of energy and thought it was just my age at 65. I found something on line about a girl with the same problem and her Dr found a fix. Printed out the girls email and showed my Dr, and he just shrugged it off. Saw an endocrinologist and he said it could very well be my problem. After 3 mo on cytomel and synthyroid, my test is finally perfect for the first time in 40 years. I have energy, I sleep well, and feel good about my self. But, the best thing of all is, I am remembering things. My husband said he has his wife back. Keep in mind I was always hyper active and thought to have a photographic memory. Then in my 60's I just assumed it was normal to feel like crap! I did get a rash at the base of my neck at first. I also, layed awake for a few days. I have lost some thickness in my hair and noticeably only to me. I hope this will stop soon. Everything else left and I just hope it continues. Read More Read Less

I have experienced the extra energy I need to get thru my day. Usually I would feel fatigued & ready for a nap several times per day, however, with taking this I am able to keep up with my family & my commute & fulltime work schedule. It seems like I am more able to handle situations that are thrown at me from any angle.

My thyroid was removed when I was 20. I have taken armour and then synthroid since then. In 2008 I was exhausted all of the time, so after researching cytomel I requested my Dr. prescribe it. It really has given me a lot of energy & stamina, although I have not lost weight even with exercising almost every day. My new Dr. doubled my dose in 2009. It made me perspire & feel shaky, also not sleep. So she reduced my synthroid. Now I am having high blood pressure & my muscles ache constantly. Returning to my old Dr. he tells me I am on a dangerous dose of cytomel, and won't treat me unless I wean myself off altogether. Is cytomel really that dangerous in low dose?Read More Read Less

I found this in combo with venlafaxine & wellbutrin xl works. It does what I was hoping other meds would have done but didn't. I also have lost weight.

Father with AFib was put on this with an increase in his synthroid to 125mg daily and Cytomel 3 times a week. He complained of leg weakness and being unstable stating he felt very nervous. He also takes 3 seizure medicines, dilantin, gabapentin, trileptal. I will be asking doctor to remove from his meds if possible, he is 84yrs old., had quad heart bypass 8 yrs ago.
