I was taking this medication for 6-7 years for depression. Instantly, major weight gain occurred and would not come off. Tired all the time; over time had to increase dosage and then decrease when I got too anxious. If forgot to take it for a day, sickness (stomach upset, nervousness) would occur. I've been on citalopram for 17 months, 20 mgs. My doc upped the dose to 40 mgs when my Mom passed away in Sept 2007. I found that on 40 mgs, I was numb. I couldn't even cry for my Mom. Felt like a sneeze that just wouldn't come out. I took myself back down to 20 mgs., and I actually felt something, no more numbness, and I could cry.
