My daughter (in her early teens) took this medicine for 9 months after a supposedly positive PPD. The doctors insisted she take it even though her chest x-rays came negative, and I trusted them enough to follow their directions. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION. My daughter experienced mood swings while taking it. Even though her emotional symptoms seem resolved since completing the 9 month treatment, ...

Just finished 9 months of INH--every morning between 6-8 a.m., missed one tablet, took 3 as late as 11 a.m. in the entire 9 mos. Diarrhea every morning 45 minutes after taking INH. Couldn't shop without rushing to the bathroom (if I got there on time). Went through 1.5 times toilet paper, numerous pairs of underwear. Stomachache during most of treatment worse with B6--so taking gummy vitamins. Got so bad at the end I was drinking lots of water to keep system washed--didn't help stomach or stop heartburn. Headaches on and off progressing to regular just prior to end and were nearly migraine force for 3 days after quitting. Blurry vision always but has seemed to disappear now. EXTREME ANXIETY--still have. Skin dried out so now I look like a prune even though I drink over 100 oz of water daily. Kidneys ached most of the time. The last few months, I had to go nearly every hour though normally don't need to go for 4-6 hours. Healing takes twice as long or longer. Cuts go away in about 3 weeks, bruises, so far six weeks later still hurting--area has become numb. Strange, sudden dizziness--no warning, but not severe--and falling has been very easy. Short term memory gone for numbers and dates, names hard to remember. Still have excellent memory in other areas. Blood sugar skyrocketed, quit INH a week ago, still extremely high--scary. Last few months joint aches. Injuries, known or unknown, ache or hurt for weeks. Nightmares--strange, unreal and disconnected from thought to thought. Brain fog--still there somewhat but may be improving. EXTREME FATIGUE! Can't sleep, and taking 2-4 hour naps. Always exhausted, nearly feel asleep driving several times. Still dizzy--driving now takes more concentration to stay in the lane. Liver enzymes higher every test--scared--elevated 5 days later. INH? Never know if cured--testing detects antibodies only not bacteria. 75% cure rate/10% chance of activation = 7.5% active cases after INH. INH--not a cure. Still maybe active. Sad.Read More Read Less

I just received my script. I am horrified reading all these reviews. First, TB can kill you and if you get active TB you have to take two other antibiotics with this one. All together they can kill you on their own. So, I will try to get thru this. You have to take B6 it will help your nervous system issues. And with any antibiotic it will deplete your intestinal immune system, hence diarrhea and burning butt. So take a good probiotic. Also I have restless legs and found that Co-Q10 really helps muscle cramps, also good for that is magnesium. Also, anyone in the upper midwest should take vitamin D 2000mg for winter blues. Check with your dr as even these vitamins have side affects. Honestly, I am getting a second blood test just to be sure. If I need to take isoniazid, I guess it is what it is. I would rather not get tb. Back in the day it was the leading cause of death. Also it just doesn't attack your lungs it can attack any of your other organs. For more information visit the CDC website. It was really helpful for me.Read More Read Less

I will be on Isoniazid for 9 months 300mg once a day plus 50mg of b6 (I take it before I go to bed. I have been on this medication going on two weeks and so far so good. I also take: pro-biotics in the morning and it really helps me with stomach issues (Kevita or Kombucha drinks). I have been lethargic even before I started this med so I do drink some coffee to help with my energy, this is how I make it: organic coffee made with filtered water and sweetened with stevia (I stay away from sugar as much as possible!). I also eat very healthy: organic chicken, lots of veggies and fruit, I drink water, hot tea (rooibos, peppermint, chia, pa de arco), sweet acidophilus milk and almond milk, I cook with coconut oil, no hydrogenated oils. I also work out. These are just some of the things I am doing. I will post and update on how things are going with me at a later date. Read More Read Less

I took this medication five years ago from inactive tb. My doctor put me on the 9 month treatment, it made me feel very lethargic, prone to headaches and vomiting. My advice to others is to take a B complex and B12 vitamin everyday with your meds. The medication has toxicity and depletes your body of these vitamins. If you take the supplements, it will help with your side effects. Best luck!

10 weeks in: I don't feel good. Stomach hurts, intestinal tract is always aching, and hate it. Scared what it will do after reading reviews. If I quit, does that mean I will be more likely to go to active tuberculosis?

WebMD doesn't give me enough room to write. Latent, taking INF 1 month; 62 year old educator; mother, grandmother; great grandmother. Problems: Incontinence both bowel and urinary--sometimes worse than extreme; night sweats; mild headaches; tingling in leg skin; blurred vision; itching (even down there); dizziness; drowsiness; lack of mental focus; eyes blurring; strong body odor (even down there); sun scalds me! INF is only about 90% effective--90% of the people are rid of the bacterial infection after taking it for 9 months. But 10% are not. That means I have a 1:10 chance of becoming active even after INF. But if it worked, once INF is finished, if I get exposed again, will I become latent again? I think I will. How will I know if I became latent again since there is no test to prove I have the bacteria again? Can I then become active and expose a bunch of people to tuberculosis? How does a person know if the treatment is becoming more dangerous? I know it is bad for a person--liver damage, hepatitis that can and has killed people, and kidney damage apparently. How would I know if it was going to damage my hair before it started falling out? How would I know if lupus was coming on so I could quit the INF before it did damage? Read More Read Less

I plan to start taking this tomorrow. I've already had problems with neuropathy and nerve disorders so I'm not looking forward to it and the reviews here have scared the hell out of me. Jeez. But BETTER than having TB, to be sure. I just hope I can tolerate it..

Even though her emotional symptoms seem resolved since completing the 9 month treatment, she is still complaining of negative nerve/ muscle pains and strange neurological sensations. Plus she has half the hair she had before completing treatment over a year ago, and her beautiful hair is now so thin that her entire scalp tans. The doctors shrugged off all our concerns during treatment, and blamed the serious side effects on inadequate sleep and nutrition habits, which is so insulting because we eat well and lead healthy lifestyles. The doctors don't listen, and looked at us like we were troublesome patients or crazy when we shared our concerns. If we have to deal with the residual side effects over the rest of her life, I don't expect the support from doctors to be any better than what we have experienced so far. I have lost faith in doctors and the pharmaceutical industry. Avoid medications unless its immediate life or death concern. Read More Read Less

Took this for a positive TB test, small area in lungs of inactive tb cells. Ok for 2 weeks and then wham! I thought i had the flu until I took it 2 more times and 4 hours after each time, nausea, vomiting, chills, muscle cramps. The last time my whole body went into spasms, and I thought I would die of a heart attack ( I have HBP). I even soiled myself. I told my doctor I was not taking them and he agreed, wants to put me on another drug. We'll see. Nothing is worth feeling like you are dying. I've had generic drug reactions before, but not this bad.Read More Read Less

Recently my PCP had discussed going on Isoniazid with me, as I had a positive TB skin text. I actually just filled my prescription and was planning on starting it within the next few days; however, after reading all the comments regarding the side effects of this drug, all I can say is NO WAY!! Thanks everyone!!

I was told by my doctor that because I am young that I won't really be affected by this medication since the more serious symptoms only occur for the elderly. I've been on this medication for about a month and a half now and already I have been having Liver problems, Stomach Issues, EXTREME mood swings that cause me to lash out at people and finally overall unwellness all the time. It's caused me to have more difficulty at school and issues with my friends. I really hope that when I go for my next blood test for my liver that they can do SOMETHING for everything it's doing. On another note, the pill itself is really difficult to take. I already have a small throat and have difficulty swallowing food and because the pills themselves are uncoated or anything I always get the gross taste of the pill since it dissolves in my mouth. I guess I sorta just have to deal with it. I mean, this is better than having TB, right? As I go on with this medication, I'll keep adding more reviews. I'm on it the whole 9 months so still have a while to go.Read More Read Less

I tested positive for TB and was put me on this medication for 9 months. the first 8 months, i didn't see any side effects. until my last refills. insomnia, numbness and uncomfortable on my right leg when driving. and it also effect my other medication i was on, including anti depression. now due to the insomnia, my depression got worst. went to see my doc. i told me there is a chance that the isonized can do something to your liver to make the anti depression less effective. now i have to take time of work due to insomnia and depression. My advise to anyone out there taking anti depression med. and want to go on isonized please consult your doc. Read More Read Less

I tested positive for TB in 1998 after 6 years in Japan. I took this drug for 7 months (6 months was the standard protocol then) and it tore me up the whole time. It wreaked havoc with my digestion and I started suffering from mild nerve pain and tingling. That nerve pain became a life-changer after a series of medical procedures a few years later, and I have suffered from this ever since (more than a decade). I also had a huge nerve pain reaction in my spine years later (2007) when I took Levaquin for a post-surgery E Coli infection and I've been told it's in the same antibiotic class. I am very sorry I took this drug and I will avoid any drugs in its class if at all possible in the future.Read More Read Less

I just started this medication and was told I had to be on it for 9 months. It became upsetting, becauseI had no clue what I am allowed to eat and my doctor was no help. I spend hours figuring out things and I created a document of foods I can eat also a better view of foods that aren't allowed. It would be very helpful if someone would tell me how I can make it an attachment so others may view it. I hope the short list of foods that are allowed would help. Read More Read Less

have to take the drug for 9 months I am on month 2. I already have Lupus it is making it worse. My stomach is so messed up. I am losing like 5 lbs. a month on it. I already had migrains this has only made them worse. My vision is gone. By reading all the reviews it sounds like I still have more symptons to come. I have been on alot of medicine before but never one that had such cruel side effect. This is a warning this is not a nice drug at all. If I could get off I sure would.

I was diagnosed with reactive TB after having the blood work so I could take Cimzia. Scary thought is I haven't had a TB test since 2008 when it was negative. I did change jobs where I interact with patients. I came back with reactive TB. Medicine just makes me a little sleepy in the dat but I take it at night with B-6 and all the other medications for other issues. Give it time there are no cures over night. But if you are concerned have you doctor reorder the test to double check.
