I am an RN and started taking this medication for severe leg cramping 25 years ago. It immediately stopped the cramping and when I attempt to wean myself off the medication the symptoms return. I am not talking about minor discomfort. This cramping is in every muscle of both legs (not at the same time) so severe it throws me screaming out of bed and I am unable to walk-it-off and also experience nausea due to the severity. I have felt as though my bones (mainly Tibia, Fibula, Tarsals and Metatarsals) are going to break. It affects only the muscles below my waist with one of the worst being groin to knee. As a child I always had mild cramping in my feet that would go away after a few minutes of rubbing and stretching the muscle, nothing like this until my 40's. I know a few other women with the same symptoms who are in my age bracket. I rate this pain a 10 (in a scale of 1-10). Some women have come into my ER via Paramedics after calling 911. By that time the severity of the cramping had diminished substantially. I have tried other medication and nothing works. For this reason I go out of the country to get Quinine SO4. Yes, that is illegal, however, if the powers-that-be were to have this problem I have no doubt that they would consider making it legal once again. Until then, another country is making the money I pay to have less pain (how stupid is that). Yes, we are a society that will sue you at the drop of a hat, that matter needs to be addressed NOW. leg cramps stopped when taking this medication.

I had excellent results with quinine when I used this drug for leg cramps.Only used when needed, not daily.

I HAVE BEEN DRINKING TONIC WATER ONLY TO HELP MY SEVERE LEG CRAMPING BUT NOW FIND MUSCLE PROBLEMS WITH HIPS AND KNEES DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT IS RELATED?

I have been using Quinine Sulfate for leg cramps since 2007. It has been very helpful. The people who have taken this product off the market have most likely never suffered from a thigh to calf cramp.

I have used Quinine Sulfate on occasion (2 - 4 times/year) for 20+ years for severe leg cramps. It provides relief in minutes and allows me to sleep. I hoard the few capsules I have left and dread the time when I must purchase from an unknown source; either some place in Canada or Mexico. I'd much prefer purchasing from my local, trusted pharmacist. Does the FDA read these reviews by any chance?

great for leg cramps

I get really bad "charley Horse" leg cramps at night and I take OTC Leg Cramp pills with Quinine that quickly relieves the muscle cramps and/or prevents them if I take it routinely at bedtime.

i have not taken this drug yet, decided to check it out first. prescribed to me for leg , hip cramps and spasms.after reading the actual side effects of this drug, i am now very afraid to take it. thank you for the very informative, precise side effects description, i think i will live with the spasms and cramps.

Negative interaction -alcohol.

Doctor prescribed -Insurance wouldn't pay since it was for cramps. SEVERE leg cramps 3 or 4 time a night. Neurologist recommended "Hylands leg cramps" - an over the counter homeopathic treatment - has about 30 % of quinine as RX - A glass of tonic water before bedtime along with Hylands works wonders.

I use this medication for horrific leg cramps that occur in my feet (arches) ankles and legs that are not relieved by movement, warmth, cold or any other measure that are excruciating. This medication works almost immediately.

effective for me to make craps go away but not used for prevention

i have used quinine for over 20 yrs. for my cramps and restless legs with no problems. Hylands has a homopathic one works good, has quinine in it. look at local drugstores.
